@zedetach Indeed, I actually made this very comment and warning to American game devs on a video that was like "Top 10 Asian developed games coming soon" and my point was that they are lapping us in everything and this is more proof.
Having NO NAVIGATION is exactly one of the best things about Journey To The West. In the story, the characters are told by gods they will have to overcome 81 hurdles to reach their ultimate goal. Everything ahead is unknown and the only way is to ADAPT and OVERCOME. I'm glad a Chinese studio is the one who created this project, as they understand the essence of this classic novel the most.
What r u talking about? Going west is the navigation in the book. Is it also the navigation in the game? Otherwise stop prettifying the terrible design.
@@Zhxt666 lol interesting to see comment section debating navigation whether a philosophical vs technical issue. I am just going to wait until player created map and guides before going 100% achievement. PS: I think it would be a better design if map is created as an in-game item that players need to hunt to find it to only reveal sections of that map.
Disagree. I would STILL love a *map* as an *option* that you can* toggle on/off* (don't want it? Don't use it. As for me, I will use it 100% of the time).
I translated some information from the Chinese Internet: about 36-42 hours for the first pass, 81 boss, 100+monsters, 50+transformation, 6 chapters, a large number of hidden maps (a Chinese game media said that at least 30% of the capacity of the game was hidden content), a large number of beautiful battle animations (similar to god of war 4), and it is recommended to use Chinese voice to play
Of course you should play the game with Chinese voiceover and sub if you are a native speaker. Why would you play it with English translation? Though I appeciate that the translators have done a very dececnt job, it's often impossible to translate fully the nuance and depth of the original Chinese script without lengthy explanatory notes.
if this is true then im very happy, im not very good at these games so i’m definitely gonna be on the slower side which i’m all for. really can’t wait till next week, hopefully we see a ps5 review though, certain it will be a solid game though
I'm thinking it's a hardcore action game taking things from both souls genre and action game, I think it's going to be a love child between the two and I'm here for it put my preorder in today
@@nickmontgomery4729 I could see that a lot of linear games take from the souls like genre like rest areas etc. combat wise it’s definitely not in the same realm as a souls like game. It’s refreshing for sure
@@szbkos19140728 people love to say action rpgs or anything that has rest areas upgrades etc are soul like games and that isn’t always the case. That genre is so saturated it’s honestly annoying lol. Black myth hasn’t displayed anything that’s even close to a souls like besides the points that I mentioned. Combat is far different level design isn’t even as close to what a souls like game has either.
The only serious concern I had about the game was related to exploration and level design. Thank God that Black Myth Wukong also delivers some good dose of exploration. I'm sold on this one. DAY ONE PURCHASE.
Believe me, it is not a technical problem at all. 2077 was almost unplayable when it was released and it scored 9 points. ign should now pray that Black Myth Wukong really has more serious technical problems than 2077. I'm already looking forward to ign being defeated by players on August 20th.
@@szbkos19140728 I disagree. On the first day of 2077, I encountered at least three quite serious problems. The famous Black Dream; The inability to complete the side task has caused the progress to be stuck, and restarting has been ineffective until now; After the character falls, some glasses will completely cover the screen, so I can only re-enter the game (translated by Google)
@@szbkos19140728 That's quite literally impossible. The game was so riddled with bugs, glitches and performance issues both on consoles and PC that it was impossible to not encounter any.
@@PirikkoP the ign review is the only review that has complained about bugs if the game was actually buggy people would complain but ign the biggest hater of this game is the only one who complains also they game it a 8/10 because anything lower than that would have destroyed the ign stock
All gamers should unite and not let external factors influence the games themselves. A good game is a good game, regardless of any media evaluations. I care more about the ratings on Steam than media scores; if players find it fun, then it’s truly fun.
All maxed out, upscaling 1080p to 1440p via DLSS2, frame gen ON : With lumens (no RT) : 128 FPS avg, 98 FPS avg for 5% lows. With RT ultra : 78 FPS, 61 fps for 5% lows. 5800x3D + 4080s. Lumens provides like 90% of RT ultra, I don't recommend using RT in this game. I haven't tweaked anything, but like in all games I'm pretty sure many "cinematic" settings can be put to "very high" without losing graphic quality in order to gain more FPS.
Looks amazing. I love narrative-driven single player games but always disliked the vague story-telling of games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring. Also, based on the PC benchmark it looks like Black Myst Wukong is a lot better optimised and more technically competent (it includes DLSS, XeSS, FSR and TSR for starters plus frame generation) than any of FromSoftware's RPG efforts! Really looking forward to playing this next week (on PC).
Have you read Chinese story telling? It's hard to explain, but I have some friend who didn't like the way they narrate their story, and I can't take it when it's in the form of a comic. Just wanna tell you that if you think the story telling is... Intricate, then really, it's just the way they wrote story.
Chinese here. And I actually want this game to be tricky in game telling. Because in the novel you would see that its not a journey but a taste of the “Jianghu”, that vagueness has induced countless interesting literature reviews since 17th century and it would make the game fun to dig in,fun to talk about

I just hope the performance will be good. I got good results in the benchmark and my pc fullfills the requirements. Could be a top tier gaming experience here.
As a Chinese, I’m just going to tell you this is only less than 1% of our mythology😂 Let’s hope more things like this come out🎉 thank god it didn’t flop
So now we call every 3rd person melee action game a Soulslike? If Metal Gear Rising and Ninja Gaiden would come out in 2024, guess how all these reviewers are gonna refer to them regardless...
Honestly it annoys me so much. People acting like slashers weren’t around for decades. Soulslike is a specific niche itself, if every slasher was a soulslike than a soulslike genre wouldn’t even exist
Bro that is what I’m saying it’s so annoying like ninja gaiden didn’t have a whole fucking goated trilogy and side games it was one of the first third person Japan story’s it might have not been based off mythology or lore but it was still amazing and A VERY VERY VERY HARD GAME but it was never a soulslike
@@amilcarhernandez2031 bonfires, adding stamina bar to hack and slash game which is specific to Souls games, mobs reviving after resting at bonfires, 3rd person melee combat centered around dodging that gives you invincibility frames. People were calling Stellar Blade a Souls like, but Black Myth Wukong looks million times more like Souls-like compared to Stellar Blade
I see people praising Gamingbolt for giving this game 10/10 after they previously accused Gamingbolt of having "no credibility" for calling Starfield "best game of 2023". So which one is it? Lol
People don't care what anyone says. As long as the CURRENT game is of the same opinion. Gamers forget shit that happened like 1 week ago, let alone any longer than that. Look how often they still buy shit day 1 and pre-order. Most gamers are legitimately mentally ill and need serious therapy. This game is SO FAR from a 10/10 it's not even funny lmfao. And remember, most of these reviewers are playing ON A SUPER HIGH END PC. Their reviews do not reflect your average persons experience lmfao.
I was listening to a gameplay review from a Chinese gaming site, and they had a lot of praise for the story but also some concerns. The game tells its story through a lot of little details, and if you're not familiar with 'Journey to the West,' 'Fengshen Yanyi,' or other Chinese myths, it could be tough to really get what’s going on just from the few lines of dialogue. They’re worried that non-Chinese players might not fully understand the story. And looking at some English reviews, it seems like the story is definitely hard to grasp if you’re not familiar with the background. It feels like the game was mainly targeted at the Chinese market from the start, and when they were writing the story, they couldn’t really account for a global audience. Now, they can only focus on the action and visuals since it’s too late to change the content. I really hope there will be more English videos in the future that explain the cultural background and break down the story of 'Black Myth: Wukong,' so that players everywhere can fully experience what this game has to offer.
Es sind alle herzlich willkommen mir ab Release beim streamen zuzuschauen! Oder die Parts auf RU-vid zu gucken! Freue mich riesig auf das Spiel und auf euch!
Did the reviewer provide their PC specs, maybe i just missed it? 45 fps, isnt the end of the world, but what settings were used and what were the pc specs?
Can everyone please stop comparing shit to Souls games. Fuck, FromSoftware makes great games and set a standard but comparing it to everything is ridiculous. Yeah we’ve seen blatant clones but let this game be its own thing.
@@TheRamboss it literally has checkpoints where enemies respawn, and stamina based, dodge heavy combat and epic boss fights. It is literally impossible not to compare this to souls like games dude....
@@royrogers495 Those elements you stated are literally some of the basics of Gaming since it’s creation. Nothing you said is exclusive to just Souls games.
Good not every game needs to be elden ring or bloodborne. Happy someone took the amazing boss design from fromsoft and make it just as if not even more spectacular while being a whole lot more accessable
Complaining about no map?? Dude, it’s not a miss, it’s a feature. Implementing a map brings a level of mindlessness and lack of focus to the player. It’s also a slippery slope: once you add a map, then people want fast travel, then “game is too short and lacks complexity”.
total nonsense. so what if you go to the city to visit monuments or something, you do it blindly? you dont check anything on google, you just wander around the city like a homeless person, hoping that you will find something worth visiting? bullshit and besides, no one forces you to use the map, if you want, play without it, it should be in every non linear game. not everyone has good orientation in bigger games. sometimes you come back to the game after a long time and when you come back to it you dont remember where you are. i can give dozens of reasons why there should be a map, but your argument is so idiotic that it defeats the purpose
I love Journey to the West and waited for a true Monkey King game for so long now. Im not even Chinese but know the noval and story. This to me is GOTY
Did you read The Journey to the West by Anthony C. Yu? This rendition of the novel is split up into 3 books. If you have read it would you know which of the 3 books Black Myth: Wukong takes place in? I have read the first of the three books in the story and low key don’t want to spoil the other two but hey I’m a gamer first.
I read part of it but I watch a bunch of the chinese tv series back in the 80's and the 90's when I was a kid. I am not Chinese I am Vietnamese American but every Asian culture especially the South East Asian culture all watches Journey to the West tv series as a kid
It's fair to compare this to souls games / fromsoftware- but it's annoying how every single feature at the end you have to somehow compare it to "fromsoftware" - let this game be its own game- stop comparing it at every single turn. People have eyes and can easily tell this is a souls "like" game- but not everything needs to be compared to other games to build a review. Build the review on the back of the game itself instead of constantly comparing it to other games to help provide context/ example of the feature you are reviewing.
Souls games are known for not having difficulty settings, having very frequent boss fights and for respawning enemies when you heat at bonfires/shrines and this is exactly what this game is. Black myth wukong IS a souls game
It seems like a lot of reviewers came into to this game expecting it to be a souls like and open world for some reason and judged it based off of that. All action RPGs are not souls like games....
Remember this is the very first pc/ps game of Game Science. If people trying to think this is GOTY, trying to compare wukong with FS's Dark Souls/Sekiro/Elder Ring, or trying to compare it with God of War, that means a big WIN for wukong and Game Science already.
I have it preordered on Steam 2 months ago.... My instinct was right, can't wait! 🔥 (Update cause there is a bunch of single rotten braincell idiots in the comments: That's the first time in my life I preordered a digital game and the reason I did it was cause I really wanted to support the studio and I really believed in the game (especially after the news with the sweet baby inc. situation). Also every single one of us has the right to do whatever the f they want so keep your opinions about preorders to yourselves.
Dont preorder especially on steam, you used to preorder cause games sold out. Steam has completely removed that issue for pc gamers, wait for reviews..... Preordering is at the core of many problems with contemporary gaming. It doesn't benefit you, it pretty much exclusively benefits the corpos. (Update this guy is tripping lol, chill dude. This is literally a comment section; it's designed for ppl to give their opinions)
Dont preorder noob. Preorder causes quality drops of a game because dev companies get lazy because the money is already in the pocket. Where were you these last few years? :-) Be a bro and dont preorder
Game Science confront SBI, IGN, WOKE and western medias bravely and because of that, its a 100% buy and support. I wish all game devs will do the same !
Woke? Is there something I'm missing here? I was surprised this game got a 10, even the narrator had about 2 minutes of gripes - is it so hard to believe that other studios gave this an 8? WHICH IS STILL GOOD BTW! Where is the woke thing coming from??
Google sweet baby inc Wukong controversy, you'll get your answer. Majority of big review sites nowadays are working with sweet baby Inc, if a game doesn't tick all the political left ideology boxes it gets a lower score.
@@ivyandalextogether There was a story about how some Western company offers its services (not cheap) to help game developers make their games more "inclusive." When Game Science looked at the cost they said thanks but no thanks and moved on. Then suddenly IGN and these companies suddenly dug out old posts on the Chinese internet from 10 years ago which were apparently out of context and allowed them to frame a narrative that the developer was a misogynist.
Hoping to play a game with Sun Wukong finally in a good way, last time I had something involving the character was the downloadable pack for Sleeping Dogs. Love the stories and character. 😁 Never expected Elden Rings or Souls Like, just a fun fighting adventure game with Sun Wukong. 💯
uh. i'm sorry but did i just hear you say you were mostly playing on 30-45fps? and i can only assume you have a top tier pc considering your youtube channel.
If its just about meaningless boss fights without any interactive storyline then its not a worthy purchase maybe I might get a used cd after a while or mooch it from some of my friends after they complete playing it if they were to buy !!!!
Everybody needs to stop comparing games like this to Elden Ring and Demon's Souls as if they were the first games to ever exist 😂 if anything this game is more like Omnimusha etc. I hate this new generation lol
About Performance: you can safely reduce Hair Quality to "Medium", Vegetation Quality to "Very High", Global Illumination Quality to "High" while keeping everything else at "Cinematic" without sacrificing on overall visual quality. If you want top notch framerate, the next things to turn down are Shadow Quality and Visual Effect Quality.
I can’t explain how happy I am that this isn’t a souls like. I’ve always been blown away by the visuals and boss design but been put off by the thought of it being super punishing and not respecting my fairly limited gaming time. I’ll 100% be getting this now
Love that it is an "action adventure" game and NOT a "Souls-like" game. Only issue is *lack of a map* which I HOPE the developers add as an option in a future update. Now to wait for a *physical disc* version on PS5 to eventually get it....
Wait, so you only got 30-45 fps on pc, and that’s ok now? Am I missing something here? How’s the guy not ding it at least a full point for performance alone?
Thank you for your honest review. Many big critics tried to find flaws in this game because it was made from Chinese company so they don't want to give a 9. From what I've seen here, it really looks like a next gen game and bosses are quite unique. It did feel fresh to me and I hope GOTY will not be biased.
wait sorry game looks great, excited to check it out but 30-35fps on PC is not "okay". Im not a frame snob normally but 60fps is pretty much standard these days. And if a game is going to be lower than that, it should at least be a stable, locked 30. You didnt mention the specs of the reviewer PC but I would be surprised if they werent running at least a 30 series card. I wish you had delved deeper into that and talked about performance in more depth. Was it a consistent framerate? Or was it jumping around between 30-35? Did turning down graphical setting help? Are there any AI upscalers available (DLSS, FSR 2.0, etc.)? Looks like we should wait and see, but if recent events are any indication I see a lot of negative steam reviews from people trying to run this on their 1050ti in the future haha
Ah my favourite time of the year again! When a review doesn't line up with the fantasy you've created in your head: 'lol trash channel/who cares amirite'... if the review heaps glorious praise on it though: 'oh man i always knew you guys were the real deal amazing stuff'. That fabled time of the year when we suddenly act like anything less than a 10 is an affront to God himself and scoring something an 8 is basically saying it's trash garbage and the game needs to be deleted from existence. What a time to be alive!
I’m sorry but you’re putting a negative on not having a map? Is that something that was an issue with Lies of P? Dark Souls 1-3? Bloodborne? They all had branching paths and no map. Were they issues then too or just now that you got spoiled by Elden Ring?
Honest question, is it only a good review if it fits your predisposed bias? The one you claim somehow doesn’t exist? If it’s a game you dislike and it gets great reviews from some sites, that’s bias right? Love the mental gymnastics.
@@animegtrailer5208 It sure is if the only reviewer complaining about it is IGN. What, did they somehow get mailed the only bad copy of the game? How unlucky for the developers, IGN just decided to review the game while playing on a potato. And the game still scored 8/10 despite all that. You must be a journalist bootlicker, especially with a username like that.
The initial trajectory of life is somewhat similar to that of Wukong. When unrestrained, suddenly discover that there is a larger world outside. After becoming a little stronger, one starts to become swollen-headed. At an age when one doesn't know the immensity of heaven and earth, one calls oneself the Great Sage Equal to Heaven and confronts a hundred thousand celestial soldiers in a rage (and freezes the Seven Fairies and then focuses on eating peaches). It wasn't until being suppressed by the Tathagata for five hundred years that one began to learn the operating rules of this world, which monsters should be killed and which monsters should go to the Heavenly Court to find their masters. It took fourteen years to protect a mortal to go to a place that one could reach with a somersault cloud to pick up a courier, but one became the Victorious Fighting Buddha. He's not without ability; he compromised with the rules of this world. At this time, there is a team that tells you through a game that you are still the same Great Sage Equal to Heaven as before. This matter itself is passionate enough. This is also another proof of the charm of the game and its being called the Ninth Art.
"Performance for the most part was...okay, with the game hovering around 30 to 45 fps." That's pretty concerning. I was able to get an average of over 90 fps when I tried the benchmark (with FSR on), so I hope your performance issues were simply a case of the graphical settings being set too high with DLSS/FSR/XeSS off.
why don't you just download the benchmark tool and try it out yourself? It's so much easier to dial in the settings for YOUR MACHINE than to rely on someone else for this.
@@svcupc Don't have to Hardware Unboxed on RU-vid just dropped a video today and its pretty clear that this game will run decent on top of the line rigs only. I suspect massive refunds on day one. Don't even attempt to play this game on anything lower than a 3080.

Amazing graphics, solid smooth gameplay and animations...really impressive for a first time studio, so kudos. Unfortunately too hard for me and I've given it a fair go, 40 hours in and stuck on the first chapter so even though I've pretty much given up I appreciate the quality.
