This is ancient Chinese mythology but also based on Chinese Zen/Tao/Philosophy. To appreciate the deeper meanings hidden behind all those details in the game, one could check out the Chinese novel “A journey to the west” or the Chinese Zen Book “How to be Happy: the Wisdom to Attain Happiness and Success by Constructing an Invincible Mind”.
I love the message behind second phase when he takes the relics from you, which some people can consider it unfair, but it's a trial. "You want to be next Wukong? Then you don't need relics. If relics are the only thing that makes you strong, then you don't deserve them. Prove, that you are worthy to be the one."
Love that analogy, because it is true, always remember how we started , no power ups, no exp then we come to this, how much gone through is how much suffering and pain we had
In the original Journey to the West, Sun Wukong used the immortal method to capture the seven fairies in the sky and steal the peaches they supplied to the gods.
My exact reaction to that happening to me was utter shock and Amazement. I literally paused the game for a good couple of Minutes thinking to myself "....Did this Man just Drank my Shit!?"
Yep that's what I thought it I literally yell "OMG!!! THAT'S SOOO SUN WUKONG!!!" especially after he took the five relics and stretches his back, that SWAG of his is definitely HIM.
@@fadedcolors If you charge with pillar stances Wukong will grab it and swipe you with it. Also if you hide and charge inside a fire circle he'd throw you peaches for sh*ts&giggles to interrupt. The disrespect level is full MONKE.
This fight wasn’t bad at all. The secret boss fight for the ‘true’ ending really worked me over though. Lol. I took down Erdtree Radahn in 6 attempt. But that guy slapped me around for a good while. By far the largest difficulty spike in the game.
There's a secret reaction to almost every playstyle. He will even eat a peach and throw it at you when you're using the circle to charge up heavy attack.
There is crazy amount of details for the fight. If you try to do the long pole stance on him, he will copy and his pole will be even longer than yours, out ranging your attack. Sometimes... when you try to long pole attack him, he will catch your pole with his empty hand and start just rag-dolling you how Hulk did it to Loki.

If you notice, you will find that even if the gourd is taken away, you still regain health. This is just the naughty side of his child-like nature, but most of the time wukong is more like a master teaching you.

As a Chinese person I was seriously crying when I fought this for the first time. That one-and-only music, those classic scenes from the TV show, the way that you are almost having a conversation with WuKong, and the fact that I have spent an hour getting my ASS whooped!!!
For me, the best moment was when he walked slowly while putting his Staff over his shoulders after he took the player's relics. Man, I'm not even Chinese but I actually felt some tears glistening in my eyes at that time. That was the classic Wukong Walk that I never realized that I'd missed so much till that moment.
Wukong this is exercise the destiny to you. In other games, the final BOSS is to kill you. And Wukong teaches you how to fight. This is also a crucial battle to prepare for the future entry into the Tiangong DLC. . .
The development team behind Black Myth: Wukong aims to perfect the game before its official release. However, due to immense pressure from investors, they have been forced to launch the game earlier than planned and will work on further improvements afterward.
He doesn’t follow rules and is embedded by individualism - which is lack in Chinese culture and for the same reason he is loved by Chinese through the generations.
This is a well-known myth among Chinese people. It has been popular not only in China for thousands of years, but also in Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia. If you know this mythical story, you will definitely be surprised by the story setting and scene setting of the game! (Real scenes, statues of legendary figures, and temple cultural relics really exist in China) Legend Wukong’s main weapon (golden cudgel) weighs 6750 kilograms!
@@chkwok2001 The monkey character of Sun Wukong first appeared in murals depicting the four pilgrims, including a monkey, after Xuanzang's return from his journey in 646 AD. Later, in 1592, a novel titled Journey to the West was published, which compiled various Chinese myths and served as a satirical commentary on the state.
back in JTTW Wukong may pee in his enemy's wine. He's way too polite in the game because ur his descendant LMAO He's not noble for sure, but I love how he can smash everything just for entertainment because he's so powerful that he can do whatever he wants.
@@IDSDFTM he would only insult someone he truly despise. in the game hes just chilling and wanted to have a sip of ur wine. he still loves wine so much even when he's a broken shell.
This scene really made me laugh. The original JTTW contains many humorous and witty moments. When Wukong first learns to fly, his classmates jokingly say that he could deliver takeout.
Sun Wukong is the master of trolling and disrespect. He will unleash hell on you with his clones in a viscous combo, interrupt your charge by throwing a peach, then steal your healing method and use it on himself. Love this game
@@fourthhorsemendeath218 he didn't use the clones much, didn't even use a single transformation, that should tell how outclassed we are( we are the student but he is the great sage)
Wukong is like, don't use my power to fight against me. So he took the relics back. And then again, don't use f portion, use your own f ability. Don't f cheat in front of me.
It's funny how many stupid people say that Sun Wukong was inspired by Son Goku. Sun wukong firstly appeared as one of the main characters in the Chinese mythology novel, journey to the west, which was created between 1592-1602. So obviously wukong is centuriedly earlier🫠
Wù (悟)Kōng (空) means "realizing nothing exists" or "realizing everything is empty". Your desire is empty, the thing you desire is also emtpy. The name carries the special entrustment of his master Tang Sanzang, hoping that he could abandon the anxiety and uneasiness in his personality. Actually, Buddhist culture perfectly coincides with the ancient Confucianism of Confucius, emphasizing a life of living a simple and unworldly life, obedience, and the hope of reincarnation and becoming an immortal. This is a perfect cultural framework for ancient emperors to rule the people.
As a Chinese player who played countless games in 20 years, never feel more happier than seeing the childhood hero took my potion away, countered all my moves and kicked my A😂
I'm literally fighting him rn when he took my gourd like 3 minutes ago I was flabbergasted this boss is so good (kinda getting violated on the part where you lose the powers of the staff and armor tho)
When the shell reformed into Wukong's more traditional appearance, i knew things were getting interesting. When Wukong took my relics and sauntered up to me with his pole slung across his shoulders like the picture of confident badassery, i knew i was in trouble. When he took the gourd though... I knew every dev who had said this game was not as difficult as a souls game was a lying snake, and i loved them for it.
When you defeated the boss but the background music went more and more exciting (it's the remake version of the most classic music in the TV series of Journey to the West 1986 so every Chinese player knows what happens next)
Not much westerners appreciated the phase change into the first broken shell, but to all the people who watched rhe OG jttw tv series, its such a "Ooooh" moment because the music is literally the theme song of the OG remixed. Such a goosebumps moment when i first heard it and realised it.
The stealing potion thing is just really sick, brilliant, adds so much fun to the boss fight....oh .... maybe not that fun for the people who are playing😂😂
Just to make you all aware, if you use the pillar stance heavy attack while he taunts you during the 2nd phase, he'll catch it and toss you around as if you were loki from the 1st avengers movie
Not replay. You have to continue the journey. Choosing ng or ng+ will make you have to repeat the whole 6 ch again. Continue the journey instead and fulfill the prerequisites
No one pointing out that the shell becomes more "Wukong" when he steals back the relics? This is like Tony, saying "If you are nothing without the relics, then you shouldn't have them."
The Chinese name of the final boss is "Great Sage Remnant", "Great Sage" is the honorific title of Monkey King, "Remnant Body", is a mutilated body, which means that this is not a complete Monkey King, he is the remnant body of Monkey King, his paranoia and naughtiness and powerful power are still in this body ...
Last phase, Wukong has already stolen 5 relics, the destiny one was fighting totally based on the last relic which is “意”, the most important relic compare to other 5, according to Chinese culture, you can live without eyes, nose, ears, tongues, even body, but can't live without "意" (an mixed concept of intention/vision/desire/will/feel, maybe even prior to intention "念")
And “意(yi)“ can passed from one by one among the detiny ones according to the game. (I think that's the most wonderful and excellent part of this game). It's totally reflecting the fact that by the novel/story "journey to the west", Chinese was inspired/encouraged by the spirit of greate sage generation by generation. And the golden hoop was also perfectly defined in the game, it's about freedom and restriction. Facing the enemies from haven, Wukong want's to take it off rather than sacrifice himself, but facing old monkey, the destiny one choose to put it on. I think it's totally a fare way to define 'freedom' regarding who you are facing.
There is a reason of that, Wukong tasted the best food and wine form gods palaces so when he drank yours he was like "uhh this wine is bad" so threw it back to you, he don't want it 😂😂
People should understand now why Goku releases golden light and aura when he turns into super saiyan because Wukong does that too. Same with hair color..
Many people dont know this but if Player do the Skill rising pole high to smack down, Wukong will take your pole and smack player down several time while player hand still hold onto it
I hope Game Science will continue this with Wukong taking down the whole entire celestial kingdom and mop the floor with all those gods all the same time. Then of course, Buddha shows up and calm him down and Sun Wukong returns to Buddhahood and lives in peace for eternity with his monkey clan at Flower Mountain.
If anyone don’t like gourd stealing, you can soak iron ball(not sure if I translate it right I played it in Chinese) which protect your drink from interuption
Lemme tell you this move threw me for a damn LOOP the first time it happened. I have never seen or had a boss do that before. It's pretty revolutionary I think.
the simple staff really is a cool weapon. and it's great when you want to beat ass and not kill your opponent, or opponents. it's good at fighting multiple
