The media is charged with over representing black people in crime, the stats, reported by the number one authority, paints a different picture.

They don't know about all the programs and discussions because they don't actually care about black people. You're dealing with "say anything" people who will say anything to excuse the misbehavior of anyone they consider to be on their team and demonize people they consider to be on the opposing team. In the scenario Harriot opens with, the homeland security head is speaking to his own group - people who are commonly effected/impacted by the act in question. He is speaking to a specific real current occurrence of the crime, which as been committed against their group by another people. It would not make sense for him to speak to harms in general, to the group, when this is not the question/issue, he is presently being asked to address. One would not do this, in this case. The case that Harriot and others are arguing against, ( basically that the notion of Black harming Black people, is not a crime) is not this scenario he paints to make his argument. He and others who make this, erroneous, to say the least, charge/criticism/denunciation of this term, which a Black person coined, and that many of us have always used, are wrong in doing so. It is an insult to the intelligence of Black people, to say that we have used this term, all this time and only recently, it is somehow now wrong, and "not a thing". Another Michael - Dyson to be specific, seems to have been in the forefront - certainty among the Black intellectual vanguard, who have lead some of us, into this inexplicable shift, into this dismissive and indifferent attitude, toward the value we place on our lives. Again, the scenario does not depict the situation Black people are in, and violence and crime in general and anti-social behavior in general, are distinctly different, for what I see are obvious differences. That this argument that Dyson, Harriot, and others are making, was never argued before now, suggest that it is not a value argument they make. First it must be pointed out that two groups are today speaking of this phrase, which people like these two Michaels and D.L. Hughley, are so adamant in speaking out against. It is of course us Black people who have traditionally been critical of self-destructive/self-defeating and anti-social behavior, in general, among us. These Michaels and Hughleys among us, never expressed this opposite opinion until relatively recently. They surely never objected to Hip-Hop's campaign against violence, nor songs like "We're Headed For Self-Destruction". There is no difference between those expressions and the phrase BonBcrime. Today they say, it means something totally the opposite of what they before never had a problem with. Is this what it means to be "woke"- awakened to new understanding? Explain that! But back to the point of the differences between the two groups, who are using this phrase. I have already mentioned our historical use of it, the other group is obviously White Conservatives. They may be using this for various reasons, but the most assumed one, and I don't argue that it is not their main reason, is to distract from the government's and the larger society's responsibility, to address the unjust killing of Black people, by police and racist individuals or groups. There may be another reason they have raised the issue of Blacks killing one another, at the rate we do (the rate at which we do, is a, if not thee, key factor, in all of these questions), and it may be because they do tend to think logically, even though they will blatantly ignore reason and the truth, if necessary, to achieve their end. Many individuals and groups will do this at times, not all to the same degree however, for various reasons/factors. Their recent use of the term Black on Black crime, is in the context of some Black people proclaiming to the world, that our lives matter - period!. Their response that "all lives matter', should have been predicted. Why would anyone think that phrase would be an effective way to bring attention to the specific wrong/harm of the unjustified killing of Black people, especially addressed to the people responsible for it? It is far to general a statement, and so naturally brings attention to all the ways Black lives are lost. Who needs opposition, when you are hurting you own cause so fundamentally and so senselessly? Conservative Whites, who speak to this term, in the context of BLM, may be coming from the perspective that, if there where in our position, they would not be acting as self-destructive/defeating as we do - that when an outside threat presents itself, they circle the wagons. This is what most, if not all, who have tried to be leaders for us, have always tried, in one way or another, to get us to do. The threat has always been there, and so this should be our default position, on how we relate interact with each other. Not only is this new stance indifferent to that basic necessity, we have been increasingly active in operating in a manner, in conjunction with the forces that oppose us. We make our already precarious/tenuous situation worse. There was once the common saying among us that "we had to be twice as good to get ahead". We knew it was unfair, but it was a reality that we had to accept, deal with, and meet the challenge. It should not be difficult to extend that line of reasoning and conclude that, to have a safe and comfortable life, we must be extra kind to ourselves and each other. Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham, documented this outlook on our situation, that was advocated and propagated, by Black Baptist Church women of the late 19th and early 20th century, in her book 'Righteous Discontent...' This sensible and productive approach, which was not much different than the one used by Black nationalist/separatist groups, seems to have been misconstrued by many Black intellectuals of today. They call this way of dealing with our situation practicing "respectability politics". Again, Dyson seems to have been instrumental in this trend as well. Talking about BonBcrime is one thing. Actually doing something about it, is another, and has been where we as a group have failed, since the days of the advances we made, after slavery was, on paper ended. We complain about being over-policed and abused and killed by the police, which is true, but we refuse to even consider the question of whether we police ourselves enough? The first level of policing is the values people have, and the standards they set, for the communities they live in. The idea of community policing, sounds to me like the community policing itself. What is really being asked for, is respectful and lawful policing, by those legally charged by the government, with that responsibility. Why not say exactly what you mean, especially say exactly what you want, when speaking to and asking other people for things? At 2:41 Harriot says, we should do something about Black people killing one another, and promises to get to that, later in the video. He never did. All that followed were statistics that he says mathematically excuses BonBcrime and the video ends. He and the others, basically are demanding that we be equal with White people, (in this issue and here in the case of the statistics presented) in the most negative area possible, when it is clearly a comparison between apples and oranges. It has been over 30 years that Black intellectuals have been talking about conspiracies to destroy Black boys, the school to prison pipeline, and the possible extinction of the Black male, yet with all the rhetoric like - "when you know better you do better", when do we demonstrate that we have learned from previous mistakes? White people with all their weapons, and drinking, and drug taking, and selling drugs, don't kill each other, at the rate we do, in doing so, yet we have learned nothing from three consecutive drug addiction and violence epidemics, spanning a half century. One need not be a mathematician to see the inequality in this scenario. White people have the privilege of power, that affords them to be able to act self-destructively to a greater degree, whether they actually do or not.. They have a stronger social and financial infrastructure, that allows them a better chance, to recover from mistakes and willful acts of anti-social and self-destructive behavior. They have a better support system. It is lunacy to not acknowledge the differences that makes this issue not a question of comparison. Why does it seem today, it is acceptable for us to expect, if not demand, that we give an extra effort, in the field of sports and entertainment, but for us to do so, in general, because of our unique disadvantaged position in society, is seen today by many, as blaming the victim? How do we jive the popular rhetorical refrain, that we are spiritual, resilient, creative, some even say magical, with the idea that racism in all its forms, has made us unable to meet the basic challenges of life? Who among those who are expressing this attitude, were allowed it themselves, by their parents, let alone they pass this on to their children? Will we ever get real, as a group? "Black on Black Crime is a Hoax"? Is that supposed to be some kind of sarcastic joke? Has all the joking really been medicinal? Is it a substitute for real work efforts, to live healthy and peacefully?

Poverty is not related to violence, poor white or Asian neighborhoods still commit way less crime.
No. Basketball Americans still commit more gun crimes even when you account for poverty. And Native Americans don’t have the same high rate of violent crime despite higher poverty rate.
