YES! Being lefty so glad you made this review. I have had the NU Blue for about a month now and love it lane shined on house. I would love the Purple or the new Black but not sure if they would be an improvement over the NU Blue. Also thank you Brunswick for giving Mr. Rosdahl the opportunity to throw all your brands! Thank you Luke for hooking us up!
I love when our opponents throw Barney during our 5-man league. when the ball begins to cut across the head pin, a little carrydown is just what I need. after receiving a warning from our opponents one week, I warned them back saying that they're only going to mess up their own team's lines and that our team loves carrydown. needless to say we won one game by 50 pins, another by 150 before they switched to reactive.
I love my PH in short patterns, and revel in the complaints about another lefty trying to buy wins with the PH. But jokes on them it was a birthday gift 🤣 All jokes aside, I appreciate seeing you throw all 3 on a short pattern. A couple of guys at league got the NU when it first came out and their averages climbed by 15 pins, haha. Definitely a HS killer.
Luke I’m a lefty who had a lot of success with the Kentucky Black Hammer. I really like slow response equipment. Pro Motion, original Zen, Verge Solid, Axiom, Zing Solid are some of my favorites in recent memory. I’m looking to build a small, well rounded 4-6 ball arsenal for myself after a bit of a hiatus. I intend on drilling a new 78D Black Pearl. What else would you suggest? I have seen you mention how great the Summit is on our side of the lane. I appreciate any feedback you have and thank you for the great content!
Ok yeah seems like we like the same stuff. Black Pearl definitely has to be in there, Summit also, DV8 Hater seems like it's going to be a good one along with the Radical Conspiracy. Black Widow 3.0 has been a nice surprise too.
Thank you for your recommendations. As someone who really loved the Zen I think I’ll add a Sublime to the bag as well. I wasn’t a fan of the Zen Gold Label .
The BH looks a lot like a Pitch Black to me, and not just in the color. Kind of surprised we haven't seen the Nu on TV yet, really. The Nu reminds me of a couple of Motiv's Microcell stuff.
Yeah they're not far off. PB is a little earlier and stronger, more of an arcy shape vs the rounder shape of the Black Hammer, but really similar for all intents and purposes.
There are a couple channels that have done that, The Hype I think just did it fairly recently. The 78u is quite a bit earlier due to the stronger core, and is best shiny, while this one is a smooth round continuous motion that hooks throughout the lane, and it's best pretty dull.
It's hard to say because the NU is quite a bit different with surface vs shine. They're somewhat similar shaping balls, but the NU is definitely a different kind of direction than the Rhino Pro. If you could keep the NU at 2000, it'd be a great step down from the Rhino Pro. The Rhino Pro is a handful of boards stronger and a little more responsive.
Im lefty 2 hander bowling 2 years and despite everyone saying PH is bad for house I am lights out with it. Last week, 0 practice I picked it up game 2 and threw 289... Any suggestions or the type of "reactive" or solid balls I should look into as everyone says youll have better "luck" and "shape" on house with reactive? I havent found a ball that even gets close on miss room or pin fall than it.
Eh, righties don't understand the left side. We need control above all else, but because righties have track friction and less shape, urethane generally doesn't look or carry as good for them, so I can understand where they're coming from, but they don't get that most reactive balls are basically uncontrollable for lefties, especially ones with higher rev rates.
Never thought I’d see my guy Luke wielding a purple in a video. Now you just need a Hopkinsville purple to throw against the new stuff for comparisons sake!
I have both Purple and NU. I'm not quite sold on my NU yet. I see guys having success with it, but i just don't get the same. You mentioned dine in the ball. Would you recommend a little polish in the surface, or maybe going with a higher grit pad (3 or 4000) ?
As usual, videos always on par. Can I use the new blue on the house shot or should I use it on the house shot? My pro shop of operator says I don't need to use your thing on the house shut. How about the new blue? Would that work and when to use it on the house shot? Thanks a lot man. Keep up great content. Great videos
Yeah this has been a discussion for a while because it's the same deal with the purple, having that much extra diff would make it actually flare so that would create a fairly different ball motion.
Great video! Quick question for you, as I’m also a lefty, what would you add to my arsenal if anything? Obsession Tour Solid (box) Teal Rhino Pro (box) iQ you solid (box) iQ Ruby (2000,5000) Nightroad (2000,5000) plastic spare ball
I just got a NU and threw it on wood lanes tonight. My pro shop guy polished it though instead of letting me lane shine it. “Everyone brings it back to me wanting it polished”, he said. My neck/shoulder like it better when I don’t have to throw it harder lol So I thought getting this without actually being urethane I could get the look I wanted right away or late if the lanes ACTUALLY held any oil after practice 😂 What’s your opinion throwing it on wood lanes and it being polished out of the box? Thanks! 👍🏻
Would like to see a comparison of the black hammer 15lbs vs 16lbs due to the diff being double on the 16. Perhaps there isn’t much reaction difference. Just curious.
There would be somewhat, and I remember this being a topic several years ago with the Purple, because it's basically the difference between the ball flaring and not flaring, and when you get a ball to flare, it really changes the reaction. I'm sure there are already plenty of videos out there on that for the purple at least, but I can't really afford to buy a ball just to make a video with it, so you'll have to find that one elsewhere, sorry!
How close do you have the !Q 78-U and the Black Pearl Urethane? To me they seem pretty comparable, with the bigger core in the 78-U making it look a hair quicker.
Well the 78u rolls significantly earlier of course, plus it flares, so with surface, the 78u is much earlier and smoother because it's doing everything it's going to do in the first 20 feet of the lane and then it fades, while the Black just continues to gradually react. The 78u really needs to be at 2000 grit or higher to be at its best, and at that point, yeah it's going to be a little quicker than a 500 grit Black. I use the 78u and the Black in similar situations, but I keep the 78u lane shined. Black gets the work when I need earlier hook from the rail, and the 78u gets it if I just need to play straighter but don't need the earlier traction.
One of the chemicals in the formula came into contention, and they can no longer make the exact cover. The final SPEC release was with the sun ball that came out the other year.
Yeah, they can't get the raw materials to make it any more, so they used the rest of it up and just made as many Sun Storms as they could with what was left.
Fairly similar, Black Hammer is a little weaker than the PB, and it's a rounder shape which makes the pocket a little bigger than with the more arcy shape of the PB, but they are very similar.
Fairly close, the Pitch Black I have in between the Purple Hammer, it's not quite as weak as the Black Hammer, but it isn't as sharp and can't cover as many boards as the PH can. Also, it's more of an arcy rather than round shape.
@@LukeRosdahl I'm 72yo lefty, ball speed 12-12mph. Once a week THS bowler, 190 average. Have tried several reactive and also the Purple Hammer, but all have been too hooky to control. Have found the best results throwing the Pitch Black down and in, but some nights get several flat 7 leaves. Would the Black Pearl Hammer or the nu78 be a better alternative to the Pitch Black to carry the 7 pin?
@@edd-vp5qh Not really. The NU Blue is going to be more than the Purple Hammer, and you may be able to go more direct with the Black Hammer 78 vs the Pitch Black, but using urethane, 7 pins are going to be a fact of life. I'd suggest continuing to use the Purple Hammer and get some games and a little shine on it, that'd be the best option I think.
I’m a lefty who sometimes uses his Pitch Black on house. *Gasp* Is it conceivable that it’d be worth it to get a Purple Hammer for when I still want the controllability of my PB but a little more shape on the backend?
