One thing I think that doesn’t get mentioned enough about em is that he NEVER disrespected the culture and he never switched. A lot of white rappers came in to the game as opportunist and when it didn’t work, they flipped to other genres. Em consistently pays homage to the legends and he literally wouldn’t be in the rap game without Dre.

For me, Eminem made rappers better. There are so many times I have seen videos of great rappers who have done a track with him say they threw their first tracks away because they didn't want to be bodied and created a new one to keep up with Eminem.

Born in 1980's in New York. Brooklyn East NY. My first Hip hop Album that I was given was The Marshal Mathers LP Bootleg. My mother who was born in 1966 had the album and loved it and gave it to me. She had hundreds of CD's, like 50/50 Hip hop R&B. I had heard Em's 1999 Album The Slim Shady LP, I had no idea at the time about Infinite that came out in 96. In 2000 I was 11-12 years old. Before Em and around the same time, I was listening to Illmatic that came out in 1994 (I was too young in 94 to grasp the album (Age 6) so picked it up around 2000), It's Dark and Hell is Hot from DMX in 1997 and Flesh of my Flesh....in 1998, All of the legend rappers, LL, Rakim, Jay Z, Busta Rhymes, even Eve's album when she was rocking with Dmx and ruff ryders in 1999 I can go on it's much more than that. Most black kids I knew in my hood listened to Eminem, and got his albums one way or another going forward, they burned it, stole it from the mall, copped the official released, was given it or borrowed it. Em was also seen as an outlet even for Spanish kids, because my hood was like 80% Black, 20% Spanish and a lot of "othering" goes on that us blacks don't talk about so Spanish kids embraced Em being not black and being dope and being for the underdog and bullied etc Nobody cared that he was white in a negative way unless "grown folks" (Usually black parents) said to care. All of my 1990's consumption of music came around the year 2000-2002 in my pre-teens to teens. I heard rap since I was a baby but you don't grasp it as a young child at all, it's not really till teenage years. I really started embracing Em in 2000-2001 when "Way I am" was on repeat on MTV and I listened to the lyrics AND Stan, same year, I was a regular black kid, around street nonsense and had to deal with that and Em felt more relatable than many Black rappers did to me and my friends.
