In this video Corin restyles a Japanese Black Pine. This pine had been grown from seed 20 years ago & is now ready for its initial styling.
After thinning out the tree, wire is applied to give shape and structure to the branches, beginning the trees life as bonsai.

I really find myself drawn to your methods and rational for how you develop trees. There is lots of content out there pertaining to the same stuff but I find your videos at the tops of my list for both education and entertainment. I suppose everyone has a personal style, which makes the world go around. I am very appreciative of yours. Thanks.

Agree. The strong, left to right, diagonal movement, from the front view, is too straight for me. The angle is makes me dizzy, feel a bit queasy and want to me look away. Please know I appreciate and enjoy watching your excellent videos and calm teaching. I especially like when you say that the tree "wants" tiding up in a particular spot; such intimacy. Hope to visit your nursery next trip to England. Greetings, and happy fall, from Massachusetts, US.

I have missed conventions workshops and our club meetings here in Australia we are slowly getting back to normal but Thank you for doing these videos I at least get to see a demo and learn something.

Nicely presented as always, right now I'm very tempted to getting my own J. Black pine to add into my collection. At the moment I just planted rocky mountain bristlecone pine. I'd be lucky if one sprouts within five years. If you ever looking for nice specimen to work with try getting some blue ice arizona cypress a true cypress adapted to life in desert with strong tough compact foliage.

Corin, I look forward to each of your videos, excellent work and a great teaching style, so thank you. I just wish you were over here in the US so I could visit your studio. Looking forward to your videos on the cedar and also the small pine. I have a small JBP that I need to wire up this fall and a large Austrian pine that is in training so your videos are perfect. One suggestion is to pull in all the trees you have done this year for a quick look at how they have grown..

Brilliant video thanks very much. I have a nursey Japanese red pine which has quite a substantial truck, but it a formal upright and for my taste, I would like some movement. Would you recommend using branch splitters? Quite worried about doing that tbh.

Corin do you use wound sealer on pines typically in the UK due to the moisture/weather? Or is more for aesthetics and that this cut was quite large for the pine to take care of itself?
@greenwoodbonsaistudio
@greenwoodbonsaistudio 2 года назад
Yes, we seal larger cuts with Lac Balsam, , mainly for cosmetic reasons.
