the difference between smokeless powder verses black powder...
what every prepper should know, and why black powder should be in every bug out bag. i also forgot to mention it can be used to cauterise wounds.. and other first aid treatments.

Gotta love how you realized where the can of HIGHLY EXPLOSIVE black powder was AFTER you lit the smokeless powder off right next to it.

You literally made a fire in front of the “Danger! Explosive” warning, like I took a picture of the sign “do not take pictures” only that yours is worse, but again, if you can successfully upload this to youtube chances are they did not explode.

Smokeless burns cleaner =healthier for the gun =less pollution Smokeless creates more gas =Higher power =Less needed

I see one issue with going too strictly black powder. Rifles like the ar15 with a gas inpigment system would get messed up quick. I have considered Black powder for revolvers, bolt guns, pump shotguns and simple semi auto handguns like a 1911 but I d never for a semi auto rifle.
@redtra236

It doesn't have enough pressure to cycle a gas impingement semi auto.

@redtra236

@@desertratedc9596 It just doesn't generate enough pressure and also you are gonna get like 1500 FPS max out of a .223/5.56 with black powder and with smokeless you can easily get 3000. Black powder is just different its better with heavy weight bullets(like the old .45-70s and .50-70s were commonly loaded with 400+ grain bullets).

@@redtra236 that's what I was saying without saying it. Smokeless burns giving sustained umpf where black powder explodes and dumps all of its energy at once. I own a ruger old army black powder revolver and I reload. You preaching to someone who already knows.
@desertratedc9596

@@redtra236 the sustained burn of smokeless is what allows gas impingement systems to work without blowing the the gas tube up. That why my 2 year old original comment made note that it may and it has works on .45acp 1911s but not some like a AK, AR or any other gas operated firearm. Simple designs like blowback, or similar ther is a chance but still not great one for reliability. But then you start getting things gunked up 6 or more shots in and then it's futile anways. Better to do simple manually operated firearms with black powder

Black powder usually has very poor ballistic performance when used in smokeless powder designed rounds like .223 and .308. It just can't get the same velocity as smokeless powder. Also it absolutely will not cycle a gas impingement system gun, and usually doesn't work too well on recoil operated guns. I like black powder in rounds designed for it like .50-70 and .45-70 though. You just have to be sure to get your gun clean or you'll damage the bore because its corrosive.

Yeah, man. What other people said. There's a difference between deflagration and detonation. One advantage of BP is that a simple spark can ignite it. The sensitivity that makes it good for fireworks and flintlocks also makes it a bit more dangerous to store and handle. The primers on modern cartridges are high explosives, which causes the nitrocellulose to detonate. We might say smokeless powder burns, but it actually breaks down differently at the molecular level. Did you notice the difference in the smell of the smokeless as opposed to how it smells after being fired? That's because different byproducts are being produced. In short, you're right. Traditional black powder is very useful and versatile. If you have a 12 gauge, a 45-70, and a .45 colt, you're fine with FFG and FFFG. But if there really were a SHTF situation, you might not want to have a huge cloud of smoke, unless you plan to stick and move. Pump action, lever action, and revolvers are OK if you clean them as soon as you're done shooting. But, if you need to fire more than 25 rounds without cleaning, your stuff is going to be so filthy with residue that you may have some major technical problems at the wrong time.

I've not had any issues firing 50+ rounds out of my .45 colt henry with black powder but yeah you need to clean within a day or so of shooting or you'll risk pitting the barrel. I have a .45-70 springfield too(which is technically a black powder only gun, but I have heard of people getting away with light smokeless loads) that does really well with black powder for a lot of rounds.

The metallurgy in a black powder rifle cannot handle the high pressures of modern gun powder. That is why it will blow up. Even modern rifles will blow apart with too much gun powder. Exceeding chamber and port pressures can make for a bad day. Always follow reloading instructions for the round and caliber you are using. Black powder is an explosive while modern gun powder is a propellent. Modern powder is safer to handle and store than black powder. As always pay attention to what you are doing and use common sense.

I had thoughts about the containers, but still, I could not ask for a simpler explanation....I'm looking for a fireworks powder and it's now obvious, as to which would be best....Thanks.

The diffences happens wenn smokeless or nitro powder is compressed it develops gasses and the more compressed the more gasses and the more rapidly it creates gasses,u can reach much much higher projectile speeds with smokeless (in a none compressed stage it burns very slow but compresses it gets really dangerous) ure video is not completely accurate cause black powder makes the complete gun dirty as hell creates loads of smoke and doesnt have as much umpf as a nitro round loaded with less smokeless powder.....I am not a fan of black powder its a hell of work to clean and the performance in a shotgun isnt as good as smokeless...

Smokeless has far more energy just like ampho vs dynamite. One is slower but has far more energy! So for something that can take smokeless than yes it’s much better. It will push any projectile much further. There’s a reason why the insurgents in the Middle East and other countries use smokeless or artillery rounds instead of just making black powder. More power and a way bigger push. That flash doesn’t equate out to more energy it’s just a quicker reaction and more photons. But the actually newtons that are put off by that explosion are so much greater with smokeless powder that is why today almost every single round is made out of that! And yes if you put the same amount of smokeless powder and your black powder rifle you probably will end up creating a pipe bomb which is not a good idea because you will kill yourself… Just like you said it is that much more powerful. So that’s why it’s a little bit more expensive… You may not need as many grains! Yes I simple burn test will look really cool with black powder but you want that push. That slower release Of More energy.

@redtra236

Yeah but its probably not going to cycle well in a semi auto and also is going to get the gun extremely dirty. In a revolver I'd go for it but you need to clean with water and oil every time you shoot otherwise you're going to have a badly pitted barrel.
