@Melissa Denise I've tried but wasn't consistent, lol. Like right now I have black rice water sitting in my fridge. Has your scalp burned and itch after you applied the black rice water using your method
MD Yes, I’ve made and used fermented organic white rice w/tea tree oil added to mask the smell🤓 I’d begun seeing breakage like I hadn’t seen since transitioning. After my 1st use I quickly noticed the shedding diminish almost immediately. Now I’m using it about every 3 weeks. I’m excited to try the black rice to avoid that putrid odor❤️tfs
I swear I have been using the rice water method for over a year and I started with shoulder length hair now I'm at almost waist length. I'm a firm believer in this method cause it actually works.
I just bought the ingredients but had a few questions. What are your measurements for the rice water and oils? Do you spray it in your hair everyday? How long does it last?
@@bertrenec4559 , YAHOO!!! Ok, I use 1/4 cup rice and 2 cups aloe vera juice. I let that sit for 2 days, strain the juice from the rice and put it in the fridge until you're ready to add your other oils. I don't measure the other stuff. I just put in what my hair and scalp wants (plus what will fit into my bottle). The remaining rice water will sit on the fridge until I'm ready to make some more spray. ENJOY!!!
I never tried the black rice water. Is the latest thing now. I’ll give it ago. My hair has been growing fast lately. Cause be weather, could be vitamins. Thankfully it’s growing because the trim I just received was T👀 much!
It's an Egyptian rice. It has recently been big in the u.s. for about 10-15 years. Don't feel dumb. I thought my mom was crazy when I seen her eat it the first time. Lol
The leftover black rice works WONDERS as a deep conditioner! I blended mine into a smooth paste and added my essential oils, ginger and a little bit of my favorite hair conditioner for fragrance.
What you'll need: 1 cup black rice 2 cups water Fine strainer Cheese cloth Air tight container Scalp massager Steps: 1. Rinse rice 2. Put rinsed rice in air tight container 3. Pour water over rice 4. Let sit for at least 24 hrs but up to 2 days is fine 5. Strain liquid into container for storage 6. Use cheese cloth to squeeze out extra liquid into container 7. Pour more water to dilute mixture 8. Pour into spray bottle 9. Spray onto hair and scalp 10. Massage scalp with scalp massage brush 11. Put into a bun, let sit for 1 hour 12. Wash and condition as usual Good for 1 week in the fridge, should complete this process 1 to 2 times a month. Did I get that correct?
I ❤ the results with rice water. One thing that I've noticed when scrolling through comments regarding rice water is that some people are following others blindly. If your hair feels hard after using rice water, deep condition it. Condition it afterwards even if it doesn't feel hard. If your scalp is itching, it could need clarifying (especially at the crown) or it could require moisture (especially if chemicals or heat was used in the recent past). Take a mirror and see for yourself, regardless of what anyone else says. Protein can be drying on the scalp. It'll be even worse if your scalp is already dry to start with. Maybe try adding tea tree oil, pure aloe and/or an orange rind. Add essential oils that address your needs even if you don't have scalp issues because there's no sense in walking around smelling like a doo doo head. Like, why... Why? Once fermentation has started, refrigerate the water. And make smaller batches. It really doesn't have to smell bad. If your scalp is itching and red or you think you're having a reaction, well... maybe it's a no for you. :( Not everything is for everyone. We do so much for our hair in our quest for *our* holy grail products. I hate to hear of people losing inches while still on the discovery process. These videos are awesome and very helpful, but listen to YOUR hair the most.
Thanks for your comment Katrina!! ALL FACTS!!! This is why i ALWAYS say in my video say "do your own research" --Just bc it works for me or for you doesn't mean its good for the the next one! Thanks again!!
@@d.nicole your comment makes me happy. Ive used it twice so far and I love it. My hair is so manageable now. I also left it in for 2 days as a leave in and when it was time it wash my hair, it made my wash day easier
@Jai Lloyd yes, I love it. I have used for consistently for one month and my hair shedding reduced considerably. I was shocked, my hair grows and sheds very fast. I have low porosity hair and it left my hair soft. I find white rice to be too harsh for my hair. Then again, I eat wild/black rice or Brown as well so it was handy.
Black aka "forbidden rice" delicious with whatever rice bowl dish you prepare. That being said, it is even better as a rice water preparation for your hair. I have also combined it with organic madagascar pink rice or quinoa.👍😍
After I ferment my black rice, I blend it in my nutri bullet, strain it with my nut bag and make black rice milk. I do the milk because it is thicker and easier to apply. The milk is more satisfying too 💜💜 vs the black rice water I use to make. I do this once-twice a month only because I prefer my onion-garlic-cayenne-ginger juice treatment better
I've heard of black rice treatment and how it's more better for the hair. All the rice is great for your hair but black rice has triple nutrients than all the other rice's. I'm going to try it this weekend. Thanks for sharing and be blessed.
I currently use organic brown rice for my hair and mix it with infused fenugreek and hibiscus water for the smell. I love eating black rice but I haven’t tried it for my hair yet 🤔 I’ll have to investigate this because it makes sense
Hi, new subbie I've been fermenting rice water for years. You dont have to throw the rice away you can refrigerate it and use it again in the next fermentation process. It will eventually dissolve into your water and you just feed it more rice as needed. I find that this can make my water a little fizzy sometimes, but saves me money 😊
Another great video on Black rice water. Happy to see a lot of people getting to know about it. If you wanting to try it out I say go for it. It work wonders. 😍
Your video's are amazing Selina. I can see you growing very fast on RU-vid because you deserved it. I wish some of these big RU-vidr can give you a shout out. You were the first to start this black rice water stuff on RU-vid. God bless sis. Love you.
I actually never seen her or her ch...I'm the first to let my viewers know when I get an idea from someone else!! But awesome work Selina...glad you've seen great results with rice water.
@@sarahkrohma1480 Thanks for complimenting my video's Sarah. When I started RU-vid my plan were to help my family, friend's and church member's with their hair. I am not depending on other people to grow my channel. Been with Melissa for a while now. Am pretty sure if she did see my video's first she was going to mentioned it. Have a great week and stay bless.
@@MelissaDenise Thanks Melissa. Yes I when on a challenge with it and did received great growth from it. Sure you welcome anytime will be happy to have you over 😊
Great suggestion of the black rice for this treatment. Also, given the fact that black rice can be a bit expensive it is perhaps wise to use less to create the fermenting liquid. And yeah, that white rice liquid can be down right putrid. I actually stopped using it because of that very reason. It took three weeks to get that stench out of my hair... disgusting!
@queenofmeanest meanie I soak 1tbs of fenugreek/black rice with 2tbs of dried hibiscus flowers in 16 oz Mason jar with either distilled or alkaline water. I let sit until the seeds expand which is about 2 days. I drain and add in a spray bottle with a about 4 .more oz of water. You can add essential oil of your choice. It smells like hibiscus flowers with a hint of maple. Once you spray it the smell dissipates. You can use it as a refresher before adding moisturizer or with your DC or as a rinse.
Amy Jackson, hold up...this is a game changer! I have dried hibiscus flowers fenugreek seeds and black rice in my cabinet right now! Definitely trying this sis!
OK, I am probably old enough to be your mother and you are the first to introduce me to black rice - I'm on it! Thank you, baby girl, keep doing what you do... much love
Since new year, rice water has been the most consistent part of my regimen. My hair is growing very fast but in a protective style currently. Thanks for sharing this.
I'm a caregiver I tasted black rice for the 1st time when I cooked it at my clients house. It taste delicious, it's nutty 🖤. I have yet to use it on my low porosity hair. Ty 😊
Will try this! used white rice before and its good. The water i wash my rice with is not wasted away, it works wonders on plants! especially those that were drying. Thanks for the video.
I love that we have the same hair type so now I know what my hair is most likely to look like once it really grows out I’m excited!! I’ve used rice water before but never black rice water I started about 2 years ago and loved it but I stopped cause I was lazy but it really made my hair very healthy
I have been studying in prep to do the rice water rinse and today was my day to start. However I just saw your video using black rice when I was prepping for white rice. The first thing that struck me was that it took me years to wake up to black castor oil. I’m not waiting to try the black rice. I have a feeling that this will help my hair tremendously. I’m headed to Whole Foods today…thanks for sharing your process!!!💕
Yes I use black rice water already. I purchase it from Sprouts are any health food store. Your hair is totally healthy and beautiful. Thanks for sharing ☺️
I used the black rice about a month ago, I was in sprouts and saw this rice and I thought I should give it a try. Loved it and you're correct it doesn't smell as bad as the white rice. I ferment mine for 2 days.
DAMN, that rice is heavily dyed. I buy organic black rice from my local farmer here in Nepal and let me tell you, its not supposed to look that purple while rinsing. Those purple hue you saw when you first rinsed your rice are all artificial colors. The one I get only has a slight purple hue after 12 hours of fermentation. I love black rice in general though, its gluten free, helped me lose weight and I get no more stomach issues. Also use it as a face pack with Wild Tumeric [not the one you use for cooking] and this has helped with scars and hyperpigmentation. I do apply fresh Aloe Vera gel everynight so im not sure which one is doing the trick LOL but I do this every other day.
It's possible different growers use different fertilizer--methods, etc. A change in hue does not mean you bought it better or of a better grade or that the other is even "dyed".
THANK GOOOODDDDDD for you! I'm going to try this, never really heard anything about black rice like that but the comments got me anxious, my hair gets dry so fast it's frustrating
Maybe you should do a porosity test on your strands, you may have high porosity and caring for your hair like it's low porosity... It don't matter your texture type, but knowing your liquid absorbance level is key to taking better care of your hair... for me I have low porosity hair but I was taking care of my hair like you take care of it if you have high porosity so my hair would only grow so long once I tested it and found out I switched it up and now my hair is growing again... I do use rice water treatments (but I haven't yet started black rice water I will soon) they it does work but because I have low porosity hair, I can't use as much protein on my hair but if you have high porosity you can use protein on your hair more...
@@camillegraves9257 thank you. That makes sense because I've been using less protein hearing too much can be damaging...I'm going to try more as a test now that you've mentioned it and take the porosity test. Thanks 😄
@@UnicornRoyalty_ you welcome sweetie, take the porosity test before so you know if you're to do more or less protein treatments... Have a happy healthy hair growing journey!
@@camillegraves9257 I also have low proxidity hair, but I'm not sure how to keep it moisturized. My hair is so short right now and it's always breaking. I just started the white rice water method. I left it in overnight and rinsed it out in the morning. My hair felt so soft! I'm going to do it once a week when I wash it. Is that what you also do?
@@jweston20 yess girl ive only used it twice so far and both times my hair felt sooo good. No smell, more nutrients and antioxidants, plus it turns the water a pretty dark purple color. But its MESSY af
Vanessa Williams I’ve been using the white rice and I’ve noticed some difference. Having to color more often . Bought the black rice off Maryam video but never made it .but after seeing Denise I just made mine. Since it’s summer and I don’t straighten I feel like this might be a good time. Gonna try as a leave in spray .
@@vickiegraves6829 ive used the white rice back in Nov. for 3 months it was cool. But I had a setback when I used it has a leave in for a month with braids (BAD IDEA). With the black rice ive left it in for 2 days and it was good. I wash my hair every 5 days so it doesn't sit in my hair for toooo long. I also dilute it with more water. I will never use white rice again
Many stores later...I found some black rice!!! 5.26.23 i have strong 4c hair. My hair tangles when rinsing with water and or after using conditioner. Today i sprayed my hair. Which was in small twists. Some i didnt feel like unraveling so i sprayed. Massaged. Pulled my hair. Put a bag over prob an hr or so. Then rinsed. Hunie my hair was so soft. The remain twist was so easy to unravel i didnt have to use a comb. Now im about to use some chebe n castor oil -CamilleRose and bantu knot my hair and tie down overnight.
It is also called “Forbidden Rice” and can be found at any Whole Foods Market. I agree with Melissa.......always wash any rice, especially if you are using white rice for cooking, which I do not suggest, make sure you rinse until clear.
I've heard of the black rice water treatment but in my opinion none of them explain it like you did so thank you for that I have length to my hair but not so much the strength so praying and hoping to find something that will give me length, strong, Heather hair thanks so much for sharing have a blessed day today in Jesus Christ our Lord GOD and savor JESUS CHRIST by
There's a sista on here that has a whole series of natural black hair care videos from a scientific perspective. Green something or other. Not to take away anything from the woman in this video but the other sista is baad! She be kickin the knowledge AND the science behind this stuff.
Yes love the black rice. I saw people using white rice and I happened to find the black rice at the 99 cent store so I scooped it up and made a rinse for my hair. I haven't been consistently using it but have done a few rinses with it. I'm going to pick it back up again soon since I have rice left anyway. And yes the smell is not bad. I've never done the white rice water so I was waiting for a bad scent from the black rice water and never got it. It just has an herbal like smell.
@Jai Lloyd no I did it the first time 2 weeks ago and really liked how my has air felt once it dried. I made it with tap water the first time and let it sit 2 or 3 days open mason jar. My 11 year old helped me spray my hair. IT STINKS BADLY LOL so we were gaging and choking haha...it was funny at the same time. I will update you in a few day. Made a new mixture on Sunday with distilled water. (Heard it was better ) that's what I will use today.
I've just started using it 5 days ago. I can honestly say that there is a huge difference in my hair texture. I add chebe powder and peppermint essential oil to mine. I've been using it every day, but I rinse it out after leaving it in for 9 hours.
I've been using black rice water for a little while now and have noticed that my results were better than when I tried out the white rice water. I've also experimented mixing it with my conditioners or clay washes, I posted a video on it a few weeks ago!
Naomi Sarah i tried white rice water for my hair for the first time last week after watching a lot of RU-vid videos and I have to say it made it worse. I will give black rice water a try
@@itsmidtrib1569 I had a similar reaction with the white rice, at first I thought it was okay but then I noticed way more shedding than usual so I stopped and gave black rice water a try and it stopped the shedding and I've seen growth as well! I hope the black rice works well for u too!! 🤞🏾
Naomi Sarah, thanks! Yeah the white rice water makes my hair look as dry as the Sahara desert. It made it look completely fried. Just makes me confused because all the youtubers have had only good experiences with it. Gonna give the black rice a try tomorrow, just bought it. Thanks for letting me rant! Lol.
UPDATE: so it's been almost 3 days since I've used the black rice water and my hair still feels VERY soft and manageable!! like a baby's hair. this is gonna be a new staple for my hair growth regimen.
Thank you for the comparison between white and black rice water - I have used white rice for a while now, and was on a search for evidence-based use of black rice.
I will have to try this on me and my daughter. I can only imagine it’s benefits. Because regular ( usually use Jasmine white rice OR Adolphus Long Grain white rice). And these treatments are AMAZING!!!❤️🥰
Thank you so much for this video :-) I never buy white rice and I've been looking for reviews on black/red/brown rice water with no success. I will definitely try it now !
@Jai Lloyd I sure have... I big chopped 9 months ago and my hair is a inch above my bottom bra line when I first cut it it was just reaching collar bone length. Btw I go back and forth with black and whole grain rice
honestly didn't know black rice was actually a thing cuz I never seen it in stores, but I do remember as a kid, my family dishes oftenly had black rice but I always thought it was black because of some seasoning ingredients or cuz of the beans. but this is awesome! I'm so going to give this a try!
Well I've been eating black rice for years and shaving my hair for half a decade. Now that I kind of want to grow my hair back I think I might just use the black rice water on my hair and see how it goes. My hair grows 0.6 inch in a month ( which is very slow ) but I don't have patience to deal with it so I just keep shaving it. Let's see. Great video btw.
I have eaten black rice and I personally love it. You can actually buy it in any organic store, i always got mine from Whole Foods. I have not heard of a black rice water treatment for the hair, i also didn’t really think about it. But i am going to definitely try it, my hair craves moisture! I don’t like the white rice treatment because it stinks and no matter what you add to it it still stinks and the smell takes forever to get rid of. I will try the black rice water treatment and tell you how it works for me. Thank you for the video 🤍
You could use 1/2 the rice..put it in a food processor to powder it up and use that with filtered water.for the same results.the starch is what you poured down the drain thats what helps your hair....
This is the first time I've seen black rice used for hair growth. I was watching and listening to your advice and suggestions and then BAM @ 3:54 we got the first visual of your face and hair you are absolutely GORGEOUSSSSS.
I used rice water and my hair felt so hard so I hated the treatment, it took forever for my hair to get back on track. You made a statement about diluting the water, maybe that's where I went wrong.
A girl on RU-vid name Selina Zinchuk got a massive growth from her black rice water challenge. I never knew there were such thing as black rice until I saw her video. She has a lot of video's on it. Just curious how did you come across it? I want to try it but a bit afraid because I am low porosity.
I am low porosity and have tried black rice and had very noticeably good results. It definately reduced the shedding during my wash day. I will only use once a month though I am not certain about using it as a leave in but may experiment. I would recommend you try it as I am very happy with the results.
Will have to check out her ch! Have never heard of her...def would love to see other videos/info on black rice water. I'm an information driven person...I randomly saw black rice on amazon and thought mmm I wonder if ppl are putting this in their hair and here we are! Def give if a try I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I have low porosity hair and I use rice water on my scalp every day and on all my hair twice a month (I'm planning on😁). I've started a week ago and I've never ever had my hair that shiny and strong. When I put it on all my hair I deep condition for 1hour before adding the rice water (as it will fully close your cuticles) so it stays moiturized after the rice water. You should give it a try
I’ve been eating only black rice for years now. I started using the black rice water earlier this year when I moved back to the Caribbean. I have not been using it so often and I boiled the rice before fermentation. As soon as I get out of bed I’m going to ferment some the way you did it. Thanks for sharing
I’m glad you did a video on this I was going to try black rice when I finished with my other rice water and I’m glad to know that the steps are basically the same 🙏🏾✊🏾✌🏾
Wild Rice is the most nutrient dense of all rice, it has more nutrients and higher level of ferulic acid. This is the rice that I eat don't know why I didn't think to use it for rice water vs white rice.
