I have had two large male BRTs both show and working champions.this video gives a very good "overview" of the breed. I actually couldn't anything wrong with it. This of course applies to well socialized BRTs which is an ongoing life long process. They are a wonderful breed but do require a lot of up keep on the coat, which will reward you with virtually no dog hair or doggy smell around the house. One thing I would like to point out is there is no need to keep a BRT is show coat length it only makes for a much messier dog. I would advise keeping the coat in the summer at about 1inch long all over with eyebrows and lose the beard it is for show only if you don't shampoo it weekly it will stink and be prone to fungus due to food and water making for a sticky mess. In the winter if you live in big snow country a two inch coat will do nicely if you let is get to 3 inches they will spend most of the winter going in and out to lay in the snow then have to come back in to be with the family. It is also common for them to get most of their water from eating snow in winter, most BRT owners in snow country say the same thing. One last thing these guys are NOT for the first time dog owner and I mean serious dogs, not Goldens, labs, poodles.

My family was given a "standard poodle" by a Russian Dr. friend. Took me years to finally identify it as a Russian terrier. It would pull my brother and on our sled in the winter. Coagie slept with me in the basement and it was not wise for my parents to so much as raise their voice to me. After a few years my folks gave him away because of his very protective demeaner towards me.

Lots of owners commenting here…. Any of you ever use the BRT for hunting? I know it was bred from mostly working dogs, but Airedale was used in the mix as well, and I’ve seen videos and read comments where they are a dream to train and hunt for waterfowl, upland game, vermin, and hogs… that’s an all around hunting dog, and with the BRT being bigger it makes it better for my circumstance being on land off grid in Alaska (currently only sometimes but that will be my full time residence within two years), bears are an issue and I would prefer to have dogs that are less likely to have a bear attack due to overwhelming size, I think with four dogs and two of those being BRTs, one being an American bulldog, and another being a water dog, there is enough dog there to make any grizzly go the other way (makes it easier this way, I don’t want to have to shoot a bear because I don’t want to eat bear because my land is coastal and if the bear has been eating clams, crabs, or fish than the flavor will be off, I don’t want to have 600 pounds of bear meet in my smoker or freezer just to feed the dogs because of fishy flavor).

Stalin's dog. It was bred by order of Stalin in the USSR, in the Krasnaya Zvezda (Red star) nursery. Until the 1990s, it was little known, basically only the military who guarded the borders and prisons in Siberia knew about it. After the collapse of the USSR, they began to study and show her at various dog shows. Now we see very adequate and obedient dogs similar in character to a Rottweiler. And earlier, when they fell into the hands of breeders, they were aggressive, very vicious, wild animals.

you can’t hate the whole breed just because of you’re little incident. smh
@someone-lulu2810

Think about it this way was it your dogs fault it got attacked? Was the Russian terriers owner not a good one and didn’t take car of it? Etc.? You can’t hate one breed because of an accident, that isn’t right.
@cheaplaffsarefree

Sadly, this kind of unthinking overreaction is quite common.
@carollarking742
@carollarking742 3 года назад
My little incident was NOT mine or my dogs fault ... The dog was put down after attacking again . When you meet one of those dogs on a foot path in an orchard, off lead and running towards you ... No questions asked at full strength with every intention of attacking from 100yrds away it puts the fear of god into you . I'm still suffering pain from my injuries. My dog now hates any big black dogs .he is absolutely terrified now . I have nightmares !!! .I think I'm entitled to say I hate the breed!.
@cheaplaffsarefree
@cheaplaffsarefree 3 года назад
@@carollarking742 You can say whatever you want, but you're wrong. I'm sorry about what happened to you, and if the attacking dog was off lead, that's on the owner, but if you can't see the problem in condemning an entire breed because of your bad experience with *one dog,* I don't know how anyone can reason with you.
