To all those talking shit about Phil, please cool it. Im a Sabbath fanatic but I gotta tell you, Phill Collins isnt just a drummber, Phil Collins is one of the best progressive rock drummers that have ever lived. Paranoid is an extremly easy song and Phil could play it in his sleep.
If Phil was such a bad Drummer.. Why would LEd Freekin' Zeppelin ask him to drum fo rthem in 1985 at Live Aid? Their FIRST consert after Bonham died....
Ikr ...kids. I remember my friend (amazing drummer in his own right) his dad was a professional in the 50's thru the early 80's. His highlight was playing the Garden with Jay and the Americans. He played on a handful of records as part of studio bands....but he played a couple Genesis tunes for us one night on the kit since we were all "drummers" (my buddy and his dad were eons ahead of me in every aspect of drumming). It was absolutely mind bending! He played Abacab and a few other tunes. I saw Phil in a new light. Same league as Bonham, Ginger, Moon when it comes to drumming. No doubt about it.
The fact that Phil Collins were willing to perform a Black Sabbath song with Black Sabbath themselves shows how big respect he has for the band and metal music.
@@dan1216 the Queen skin is on the front of the kit. Could they not have swapped it around instead of creating havoc being his own kit in? They close in on his position and that’s what it looks like, or am I crazy?
@@100hooker Different styles. Not so sure Bill could've handled the insanely technical music of early Genesis. Phil's one of the GOATs of prog rock drummers.
Me: Phil Collins playing in Black Sabbath, now I've seen everything. Spotswood: Have you ever seen a man eat his own head ? Me: No Spotswood: Then you HAVEN'T seen everything.....
he can go harder than most drummer, or at least when he was younger. He played in a band called Brand X during the 70s and he played some of the hardest jazz-fusion i ever heard.
Yeah, I’m no fan of his or Genesis’ pop output from the late 70’s-early 90’s, but I do champion him as a criminally underrated drummer to anyone who will listen.
@@GabAssbreaker I’ve seen him about 11 times from 1980 to 2007 from GENESIS TO HIS SOLO BAND , l haven’t seen to many percussionist better than him that includes rock and heavy metal drummers maybe only Bill Bruford and Neil peart and only maybe people forget he was a jazz percussionist like BRUFORD even Neil PEART did’nt learn to practice the jazz techniques until later in his career ,anybody that says Phil collins was’nt technical was ignorant or full of shite mate.
Geezer was not present. OZZY OSBOURNE's backing band on a rendition of BLACK SABBATH's "Paranoid" at this weekend's Queen of England's Golden Jubilee celebration consisted of SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Pino Palladino (One time with the Who), and Phil Collins on drums. The event was held at Buckingham Palace Garden on 3 June 2002.
Pino actually sat in for John Entwistle on the full world tour that started the day after he died. I saw him in Camden which was the second show of the tour. He did an AMAZING job in an impossible situation.
@@jasperjenkins7729 While I generally agree with you, and agree that Geezer is the greatest, Sabbath did release some pretty good albums without him such as Eternal Idol, Seventh Star and Headless Cross. Although, even on those albums, he was still sorely missed. His bass would have made though albums go from very good to excellent. I love that he did return to Sabbath every time that Ronnie James Dio returned.
Did everyone just forget that Phil wasn't just a rock drummer, but a prog rock drummer? He was there and among it when that music exploded. Of course he can play and likes this stuff!
Phil Collins is very talented and universal drummer, he can play in any style . His drumming in early Genesis live shows was insane. He also performed as drummer with Eric Clapton, Robert Plant and some other big names
This is taken from the Queens Golden Jubilee concert in 2002. Phil was the Drummer in the House band and played for quite a few artists that day. One of the things I remember was Princes William and Harry looking bored, until Black Sabbath came on! They were headbanging like gudduns, the countries future is safe.
It's amazing how many people only know Phil Collins from his solo career and/or as a singer and have no idea that he was a drummer and a damned good one at that.
If Phil Collins drumming its something new to you, please check his stuff with the band Brand X, and specially his drum work on the albums "Selling England By The Pound" and "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" by Genesis. He was one of the most versatile drummers ever, so sad his health makes him unable to play at that level today.
It is because of this performance that I think Ozzy's "Ordinary Man" needed Phil on drums and an added verse sung by Collins. Elton, Phil, Ozzy singing "Ordinary Man" would bring together three British legends from the same time period but vastly different genres in one beautifully honest song.

i thought this was a mashup at first, but it's really just phil on the drums! and he's an amazing drummer, if you've ever listened to ancient Genesis, one of the best, actually....
It´s the queen´s golden jubilee in england at 2002 , in the same concert were bryan adams paul mccartney tom jones phil collins brian may and roger taylor from queen elton john ant the heavy part was black sabbath. Also exist a dvd and a cd from this concert.
What’s happening to him is a horrible disease. Really feel for him it’s a horrible way to go. I watched a video last year where he said he couldn’t even hold a drum stick anymore let alone play. Sad situation for any musician is the inability to do what you love
@@MsThebeMoon for sure, but to go out like that is a real bum deal. Go out like a light switch is best. One minute there next gone. Not a protracted horrible long slow death
Sabbath and Genesis are two of my favorite bands of all time. Very cool to see this. Would love to see Phil and Bill Ward spar on Dance On a Volcano/Drum Duet/Los Endos!
Some of us get so wrapped up in how good Phil is as a singer we forget/force ourselves to remember that Phil came from the drums to the front of Genesis. Go Phil! Go Sabbath! Go Ozzy! Good on ya!
Neil Peart on Phill Collins - “Phil Collins was an enormous influence on my drumming in the ’70s. Thus remains a part of my playing even today. His recorded drum parts with Genesis and Brand X in those years were technically accomplished, yet so musical - even lyrical. (Also) his rhythmic patterns were woven into the intricacy of the music. While lending a smooth, fluid pulse to the songs and extended instrumentals. “His fills were imaginative and exciting, alive with energy and variety. While the refined technique was always in the service of the music. Even within those fills, Phil applied a jazz drummer’s sense of dynamics. Which also guided his ensemble playing, and inspired me to try to incorporate that sensibility into my own triple-f approach.”
This is from Queen Elizabeth's Golden jubilee concert held in the grounds of Buckingham palace. I didn't see Geezer anywhere, just the house band's guitarist and Bass player. Phil Collins did a fair bit of the drumming for the whole show. And he did a more than adequate job. He's no slouch by any means.
@@jerrybrown6169 I'd never cared much for Bill Ward's drumming especially on the song "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath". To me it sounded like he was ponding on shoe boxes that still had shoes in them. But whenever I gave my opinion of his drumming his fans get FURIOUS!
Don't you love it when an artist shows their appreciation for other genres when they make a guest appearance with another band? I saw The Pretenders play at UCLA one year and they break into a rocking version of "The wait." Out walks Eddie Van Halen and rips it up on the guitar solo. So very cool.
I grew up listening to this band, and I was in a band where we played a lot of their music. I miss those good ole days. Ozzy sounds GREAT here! These are the ROOTS man, and you can't beat that!
Phil collins is one of the greatest progressive jazz percusionist players in the world ive seen him enough times to witness his legendary spectacular drumming style now im a metalist fan all the way Iron Maiden and other heavy metal bands were influenced by Genesis and respected by them like Ozzie i think he's heavy metal in his heart
You know you're getting old and your eye sight turns worse when you read the title, start the video, watch it for about 2 minutes and you're still waiting for Phil Collen of Def Leppard to enter the stage. Although you've seen Phil Collins playing the drums. Then you check the video title again and suddenly you realize that Phil Collen won't appear but you need glasses instead. 😂😂😂
Phil played with Zeppelin at Live Aid in 1985. He was together. They weren't. He also played drums on The Musical Box as a guest of the Genesis Tribute band Nursery Cryme. An awesome moment.
I don’t think there’s a sane person that would doubt Phil’s drumming and if they do they’ve only heard his commercial hits not the early Genesis where the drum fills are something from another world no clue where it came from pure genius
I'm confused by the comments about how it's amazing Phil can also play this....being like the most simple drumming song out there. I'm more amazed Ozzy can do anything.
Like "smoke on the water" on guitar, anyone can play it? Close your eyes and forget it's Phil Collins, he sounds awesome regardless of how "easy" it is to play. Kudos to him, phenomenal job IMHO.
@@michaelkukich3527 Wrong, LZ were way off the mark and Collins just sat back and watched the carnage unfold with Jimmy Page dribbling all over his guitar. Fact
I'm 55 and my buddy's older sister had Master Of Reality on 8 track in '77. My buddy and I were 10 and played the thing over and over, eventually wearing it out! Been a fan ever since! Thanks Sherry Hall!
A drum set they says Queen, Phil Collin’s sitting behind it, and Black Sabbath out front of the drum set…truly incredible. Phil did a fantastic job here, well done!
Wow, new found respect for Phil Collins for holding it down. The Godfathers of Heavy Metal. Not a single song have I ever disliked even slightly. Geezer Butler is my personal favorite bassist of all time!
This is beyond epic. Exactly for tall the details and background that was not part of this video. Respect to all those folks. I cannot name everyone, it would be too long. But thank you, RU-vid, that you promoted this to me and I really enjoyed it. I am humbled and thankful.
I am laughing at all the posts that express such astonishment at PC drumming with Black Sabbath. Rock is one big fraternity. They all know each other. They are all guest musicians on each other's albums. They all hang out with each other outside of the recording studios. Why the surprise? Lol.
Collins' is one of the finest drummers of all times, not to mention he can write almost any type of music. Seeing him preform with Sabbath is so incredibly awesome. What's next? Did he secretly play the drums for Cannibal Corpse too?
Collins was also a member of Brand X. I remember seeing an interview with Collins, where he recounts being asked to replace Roger Daltrey as the singer of The Who. I think this was in the 70's.
@christiancampagna2229 Must of been before the 70's because Phil started with Genesis in 1970 as the drummer and took over as front man in 75 when Gabriel left.
@@squonk86 If you like A trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering from 1976 why not work your way backwards starting with The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. You might just find it to be some of the finest music of all time.
@jarongittinger I love The Lamb lies down on Broadway but have listened to Genesis before that and not a fan of Gabriel and his theater antics but love Gabriel solo and never missed a concert
This is from the Golden Jubilee, Geezer is NOT there and it was not billed as Black Sabbath. It was Ozzy and Tony with the 'house band' which included Phil Collins on drums and Pino Palladino on bass. It was a great concert with Queen, Macca, Elton and Clapton among others.
This was the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002. Geezer wasn't there, it was only Ozzy, and Tony joined him for Paranoid. Phil's playing drums because he was the drummer for the house band. He's been their first call drummer ever since the Prince's Trust days in the 80s. And he's an amazing drummer, haters have no idea what they're talking about. Most likely Phil was a Sabbath fan already.
Kinda strange to see so many negative comments about Collins drumming on here. He's been a fantastic drummer for decades. And I guarantee that most of you start banging on something when the drums kick in on the song "In the Air Tonight".
Live at Buckingham Palace, London, 03/06/2002 for the Queens Jubilee. Ozzy Osbourne was invited to perform so turned up with Tony Iommi, The "house band" for the night included Phil Collins on Drums and Pino Paladino on Bass.
