The band name Black Sabbath was inspired by the horror film I tre volti della paura, (1963) directed by Mario Bava and starring Boris Karloff, the English title of which was Black Sabbath. The album Paranoid was originally supposed to be called War Pigs, but the record company found that too provocative. So, at the last moment, she arbitrarily decided to name the album Paranoid, after a song ironically arranged by the band in ten minutes towards the end of the album sessions and rushed to fill the record. Paranoid eventually became the band's biggest hit, peaking at number one in the UK. Keep it up, I'm happy to see you both.

Great to hear adult conversations about rock music. It just dawned on me that you two combine two elements that no other reaction podcast is able to. One is, of course, your adult perspective, which I can relate to. The other is that you are adult but haven't yet heard much of this music. This brings on both a cathartic link of maturity with someone enjoying the music you love and refreshing your love for it by seeing them listen to it for the first time. I can't think of anything else like it amongst reactionists(?) (or reactionaries, whichever name you choose). Love you guys and love the way you seem to love each other.

When Black Sabbath came about in the early 70:s they had those bleak but realistic lyrics. It was a contrast to the hippie, flower and love lyrics dominating the late 60:s. It appealed to the working class and their experience of a harsh world. They didn't appeal to the critics of that time. In retrospect they have finally been given credit as pioneers of metal and also credit for their musical abilities as individuals, and as a tightly musical unit. Their music can't die, because quality never goes out of fashion-

Well done guys. Saw them many years ago before Ozzy left. Now I'm another oldie who has discovered Nightwish and Floor Jansen. Unbeatable.

Y’all react to Black Sabbath the way my friends and I did when we first heard them. This is so cool. The only difference is we heard them 50 years before y’all did. Black Sabbath is timeless. Love y’all’s reactions.

Hi lovely couple - what is extraordinary about this song is that it was written in minutes to fill up the disc of the album (much the same as Smoke on the Water for Deep Purple's Machine Head album) - and both songs have become giant anthems for both those bands.

I guess you could say the music of Black Sabbath is timeless. I wounded if people will be rediscovering/listening to this album on 2072. Theses days, the most exciting Metal is being created by women in Japan. Try BAND-MAID (Domination-live, Influencer), NEMOPHILA (Revive, Seize The Fate), and HANABIE (We Like Sweets, Reiwa Matching Generation). Also GACHARIC SPIN (I wish I, Mindset), and UNLUCKY MORPHEOUS (Black Pentagram).

I hope you guys get to The Wizard, it's one of Sabbath's very best, and will always put a smile on your face. It has two unexpected instruments, and one of them plays only maybe three notes TOTAL in the whole song lol.

The song was an afterthought. All the songs were done, and they decided they needed a 3 minute filler. Tony Iommi came up with a riff, Geezer Butler wrote some lyrics quickly. It became the title track and one of their bigger songs.

Ozzy was a phenomenal vocalist. Not sure he gets the credit that he’s due for the massive influence that his vocal style has had on rock music in general. Not just metal. Just amazing ❤

It's so true that the times you most need human contact are the very times you push them away, and that comes through clearly in these lyrics. It would be interesting to see what you think of early Judas Priest - like Sabbath they were a working class band from Birmingham, heavily influenced by what Sabbath were doing but they put their own spin on it, together creating the foundation for the so-called "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" bands that made it big towards the end of the 70s like Iron Maiden. There's an early BBC TV performance of Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver that's worth a reaction, I think: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wvlq1F-X6Ko.html
