Captain White finds himself held captive after a recent defeat trying to capture the french Frigate The Henron.
On route to the nearest french port the Henron and its newly acquired ship HMS Honour find themselves targeted by a passing Royal Navy Brig patrol in the area.
The small fleet Captained by Robert Clarke, intercepts and begins his raid to plunder both ships, completely unaware that one of the Ships is a recenrtly captured British Frigate. .

Very good. Keep the coming! Don't forget you can "fire as she bears". I think there were quite some opportunities there.

Thank you 😊👍🏻 Yeah, did miss a few opportunities to 'fire as she bears', slowly building up into adding more additional rules as the games continue to flow in the story 👍🏻

The tail end of this game illustrates one of the serious problems with the rules-as-written. The haitch-em-ess Honour has the weather gage on the French brig, so it moves first, always taking it out of broadside arc, so no shot during activation. Then the brig moves up and gets a clean shot. The rules-as-written don't allow a ship that has already activated to use fire-as-she-bears, so the Honour doesn't get to shoot at all. To fix this, we use the "house rule" that any position on a ship can use fire-as-she-bears at any time, regardless of whether it has or hasn't already activated. Thus, the Hnonor would get to return first, albeit with the -2 penalty. edit: I might have the ship's nationalities and/or names wrong, but you get the idea, I hope; weather gage is supposed to be an advantage, but the rules-as-written can make it a serious disadvantage

Many thanks for rule correction 🙂 Rule following while playing Solo is probably the primary error to this game play. I do try, while playing to get the rules correct as much as possible however some times it does slip or while playing it works out better to just go with the flow. Because I play Solo and in a narrative style i like to focus on the story line and game play freely without to much focus on rules. But I do appreciate the mistakes made coming too light as it betters our knowledge 🙂👍🏻

@@el-wargamer348 I could tell that you were focused on the story, but in some ways that made the problem with the rules-as-written even worse. The idea that, when two ships in parallel are racing in a direction, only the one to the lee will ever get to fire makes zero sense. Again, this isn't your fault; it's one of the worst "holes" in the Black Seas rules (that is easily fixed). The one place in this video/story where your deviation from the rules really hurt the story was the simultaneous surrenders at the end. That can't happen in Black Seas, because only the loser of a round of combat has to do a skills check.

Nice battle report :) I hope you will go back to Black Seas- it's great game and I really enjoyed your narrative campaign ;) One thing: I believe that at point blank range you deal double demage ;)

If a ship captures an enemy ship, does the victorious ship have to diminished its crew "value" since some of its men must be put aboard the captured vessel?

Hi . Nice! I really like your playmat. Where did you get it? Also, does the rule book actually use the term "cannonade", instead of the proper "carronade"? I'm shocked that Warlord would make such a gaff!

Very good. I've not played Black Seas, but I've watched some videos on "tabletopbattles" and your first battle report.. Are you able to fire at the rigging? This appears to do more damage if critical hit achieved. Did you consider starting the scenario with both frigates damaged from previous encounter? Really enjoyable, more bolt action please. John.

Thank you 😊👍🏻 Yeah, you can aim high when firing, this does add a -2 modifier to hit, but with any critical hits you roll on a serperate chart for damage. For the scenario I did consider adding damage to the frigates from previous battle. Was a bit unsure as to how balanced it would make the game. Future battles with captured ships I might add inexperienced crews to simulate less man power on board the captured shit 😊👍🏻 Got some Bolt action in the plans very soon. 😊

14:10: The brig, as you said, is a small ship, so the French Frigate needs 4 or less to hit, so the 5 misses and the british brig loses only 2 hull points, not 4. 20:29: in a bow raking fire situation at point blank range you should double each source of damage and then add 1 to each one. Every heavy cannon deals 2 points of damage, this means a total of 10 damages, not 6! 2x2 +1 for each of the two heavy cannons. So 5 + 5 = 10 damages. Then you have to check what was the critical damage (and you did it correctly). 21:21: Stupidly the HMS Lass (one of the British brig) sailed within 1" of the ship that is already ablaze, so she should be set in fire too. Talking about the collision, even the frigate should have taken some (6) points of damage and the same Quarter Deck Hit critical token (with added no shot and no start grappling conditions), not only the brig! Nevertheless I appreciate the video, thank you! Next time please add additional rules! I want to see musket fire at point blank range, the more realistic wind schema, and the "fire as she bears" rule!

Another non-rules action was when a ship fired its heavy cannons after its first move and then fired its light cannons after its second move. While realistic, that's not allowed.

Oops. Another error is during the final boarding fight. You only have to do the do the skill-check to avoid striking if (a) the ship is now below half AND (b) it lost the round [by taking more damage than it dished out]. So no skill-checks are needed at 41:55, because the round was a tie, with each taking 4 points of damage. This rule is important; otherwise, both ships could surrender at the same time (and that only happens during French civil wars).
