Brilliant! Some people add soil alongside the green matter as a base, then add the meat source or veg scraps on top. I don’t know if that helps keep the bin moist but not soupy. I do know the decaying matter turns to compost which is a great fertilizer. Thanks.
That’s a great design. One thing that would make it better is if the removable lid had brackets or something to put the wood blocks or cardboard for the black soldier flies to lay eggs on. If they lay eggs around the top of the bin some may fall outside of the bin. Great video.
If you are only feeding your chickens, you don't need the harvester bins on the end, the maggots could just drop to the ground where the chickens can pick them up, giving you more sleeping time ;-)

Clearly your spending too much time on that hammock. That bin needs to be aerated more often then only the dark plackish Larva will harvest themselves. The white grubs should not be trying to climb out like yours are!!! That’s because you had the media “too wet” they are talking to you but your not tending to them enough buddy. Cheers
Oh that's cool, I didn't know they excreted pheromones. Also other flies will lay eggs directly in the waste leaving them vulnerable to be eaten by the larvae.

Do these always make such moisture inside? I wanted to do this small scale indoors to use the larva for my lizard to eat, but I worry about stench and moisture.
Dead animals are a cheap source of feed. Sure use rolled oats to start young bsfl, but one point of promoting bsfl is to actually recycle organic waste not just use animal feed.
@@jstarhol2923 rotting meat will attract house Flys as well so you will definitely end up with house fly maggots. BSF larva can be raised on vegetable compost only eliminating the house fly cross contamination.
Good work. Are u trying to feed chicken fed maggots to chicken? and fish fed Maggots to fish? Please dont do it. You can do vice versa or give any plant material.
