Hello everyone! Once again, please do bear in mind that this video was recorded immediately post-SU10. As such, some of the issues discussed, may be as a result of the update, as opposed to the addon itself. Cheers : )

Just bought this as soon as it was released. For anyone wondering if it's worth the price, I think this may be one of the greatest simulations of a GA aircraft that's ever been created for a flight simulator. You could spend days learning the electrical system alone. None of these reviews on RU-vid have even scratched the surface in hours of flying. You will not regret this one!
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
Hi Sean, Well I certainly tried my best to "scratch the surface" haha, but without a doubt the Analogue King Air is a very detailed / excellent addon! Before the review, I had my reservations as to whether or not the price was justified for a "default upgrade", but I came away feeling that the product was absolutely worth every penny. One of the most interesting and enjoyable addons I've had the pleasure of using in MSFS to date. Happy flying and all the best! : )

i really like the analogue gauge (turobprop) planes. how does the Black square products compare to the carenado PC12? i am interrested in the Carenado PC12 but unsure if i should wait for the simworkstudios PC12 - i believe this one will come with a glass cockpit, like the Kodia does.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 года назад
Hi Unclealig, Comparing the Black Square King Air, with the Carenado PC-12, it is really rather night and day. The PC-12 wins in the looks department, but the Black Square 350i has the PC-12 beat in every other department (and by a significant margin). Regarding the SWS PC-12, I've no doubt it will be better than Carenado's version, though systems depth will probably be lacking as compared with the King Air. SWS make some brilliant addons; I gather they will be making 2 versions of the PC-12 and if I'm not wrong, one will have steam gauges, the other a glass cockpit. I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )

Yeah, I think it really is a great addon Mekein. I know many of us love the King Air, but the default version felt a bit "hollow", whereas the Black Square version is a cracker. Nice, as always. The default King Air is a joy to fly, that and the TBM 950 are my two favorite prop jobs. I like the analog configuration. Cheers Amazer, the Analogue King Air is indeed and excellent product and NZ is indeed a stunning part of the world! Yes, it’s a shame about the aircraft’s registration. The paint schemes that come with the addon, make use of the default Asobo reg, but unlike the default aircraft, the registration can’t be changed (I’m not sure why). 3rd party repaints should help somewhat, but it would be nice to be able to change the registration nevertheless. . . 3:08 The Anti-Ice Vanes are indeed inertial separator doors utilized for icing in flight and FOD prevention while on the ground. They are electrically driven through the Engine Anti Ice switch (above your auto feather switch) and your indication will remain that way as long as the switches match that condition. Once off the ground and/or out of icing environment they are usually closed. Normally there is a temperature limit associated with the ice vanes (ours in the B200 is 15C) to be utilized for take off with the vanes extended. Also for engine start, the engine start switch is the starter/ignition when it is moved up. There is no need to turn the Auto Ignition on for engine start as the start switch incorporates that by default. You can tell the health of a battery with how easily it can spin the engine up prior to fuel introduction. A healthy battery usually has no issues (again my experience in a B200) reaching 20% N1 prior to fuel introduction. faster N1 equals cooler start. The rapid ITT rise that you experienced would be cause for close monitoring. You were well below the starting red line temperature limit, but I'm usually weary of starts exceeding the Max Continuous red line temperature. Other than a couple of those things, it looks like a solid and relatively realistic King Air option for Flight Simmers. Thanks for sharing and tailwinds!
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 года назад
Thanks very much for the info Jacob, always good to hear from those in the know! Initially I thought it was very odd, to be taking off with the engine anti-ice on (outside of icing conditions), but I went and did some reading and when I found out it's an inertial separator, it made a lot more sense. I did wonder about the auto-ignition. I noticed that wasn't a step followed by a few others and indeed the start switch does say starter / ignition. The checklist I was using calls for that procedure, but clearly it is in error (it's not a real-world checklist). . . You'd know more than me haha, but yes, it seems to be a very solid rendition of the King Air overall (at least in terms of its systems) and is certainly a very enjoyable addon. Thank again and all the best! : )

I had thought the King Air was part of the standard version of the sim Stephen? I very much agree though; it's a good move on Asobo's part, to finally open up the Premium / Deluxe aircraft to development (it ought to be a win-win, saving them some effort and creating better products for everyone). I never understood why Asobo don't sell individual default aircraft to those who want them, I'd imagine it could be a good revenue stream (most aren't going to be keen to "upgrade", at the same cost as the entire sim). . . Is it me, or does MSFS have odd ground effect simulation? Seems like I end up floating most of my landings in pretty much any aircraft, and Helicopters are VERY collective sensitive in GE. Not the worst thing in Helos but when flying GA it can become frustrating. Feels like a layer of cotton candy is hovering above the ground.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
Hi Gravity, It’s not just you; indeed, MSFS does still have a number of areas where the flight modelling could generally be improved, ground effect being one of them. Some addons are better than others of course, but most aircraft do tend to float quite a bit. I’ve kind of gotten used to it at this point and tend to account for it, but that can mean cutting the thrust very early during final approach. All that being said, the King Air is particularly floaty haha (although I think Black Square may now have addressed this behaviour, at least to some degree). Cheers and all the best : )

Hi Chad, Actually, I did follow a checklist however, I was using a sim checklist (designed for the XP11 King Air), rather than the real thing (which wasn’t available to me). I’ve no doubt there were inaccuracies vs the real-world procedures and needless to say, I don’t hold a type rating on the King Air (and I certainly didn’t make any claims to the contrary). Regardless, I think the demonstration was more than adequate for the purposes of the review (one can’t expect absolute, real-world accuracy, for every addon that I demonstrate). If you’d like to go into some more depth about the systems inaccuracies, I’m sure other potential buyers (and perhaps even the dev) may find that of interest. All the best

Hello Antonio, Apologies but, it’s pretty tricky trying to cram everything into a single video and this was intended to be more of a review than a tutorial. The product manual has a lot of good info but, from memory, you use the rotary selector on the centre pedestal to set the desired cruise altitude and this will also set a corresponding cabin altitude. You then just need to make sure the bleeds are selected on, as per the checklist (and the system will take care of the rest). I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )

This may sound a little weird. The king Air's instrument panel is actually beautiful in an industrial design sense. A very clean and elegant design in its simplicity. The ergonomic "flow" for scanning the instruments seems logical and natural. A big thank you for simulating the starboard engine fire. It's wonderful that you are simulating a casualty and casualty control procedures. It educates people about what happens behind the scenes and how casualties are delt with. It pulls the curtains back for people who just don't and gives them a new appreciation of how things really work. A very beautiful airplane. Thank you.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 года назад
Haha, not weird at all Andrew, at least not to a fellow aviation enthusiast; some panel designs just work / look right and others not so much - the King Air Definitely falls into the former category. My pleasure on the engine failure scenario! I wouldn't pretend that it's any sort of authoritative / educational demo, not being familiar with the King Air myself per se; I was just running through a real-world checklist, but broadly using the same tempo / behavior as I would at work (I would have cancelled to fire bell earlier ideally, but so far as I could tell, that could only be done by firing off the extinguisher). If you enjoyed the demo, you may well enjoy my review of the Fenix A320 (if you haven't seen it already): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x-j-JvXglDo.html I do have a couple more Airbus videos lined up as well, as I agree / hope it's interesting for people to get an idea of how these sorts of scenarios are generally run. The reason for your pitch up when you put reverse thrust in was because the nose wheel wasn't planted, so it tried to push you around the axis of the main wheel axels. On touch down you should have the nose wheel firmly planted with forward yoke to keep it on the deck.
@BrunoChavesS
@BrunoChavesS 2 года назад
Idk if that’s what happens with the bigger brothers, but on the C90 and B200 that I’ve been flying for a decent period of time I actually have to put full yoke back after landing to counteract the aircraft tendency to nose down after applying ground fine/reverse. At touchdown, even if you just apply ground fine with the nose wheel in air, the tendency for it to get on the ground firmly is there.
@Scarebus_Driver
@Scarebus_Driver 2 года назад
Sorry but you need to learn about how real aircraft fly. No turboprop ever flown when engaging reverse pitches up thats a characteristic of spoiler deployment on jets. When engaging reverse you get an immediate reduction of lift causing a pitch down, combined with the drag increase a large pitch down is caused on every King Air landing. Similarly long flares are unheard of if your on speed as discing props create huge drag getting an almost immediate touchdown. Asobo still have work to fix the Fsx standard flight model.

What has been previously answered is totally correct.On the ground, power levers at or below Ground Idle put the propellers in minimum pitch angle, called GLSP (Groun Low Stop Pitch) thus generating a great amount of drag.This will keep the nose gear firmly on the ground. So the pitch up moment seen in the video is not correct. Would be nice that the developer find a way to fix it:-)

Really been looking forward to this for my longer trips in FS. Being an 'old school' ex flight engineer on the P-3 Orion I can't stand glass cockpits - am all about the needles lol. Won't be disgracing the panel with a GTN either - standard Collins layout for me thanks and looking fwd to learning the KNS-80 RNAV system. Nice work BS! Also just FYI - first step in an emergency such as engine fire - Cancel Warning Horn! :) A. So it does not add unnecessary noise/stress/annoyance while dealing with the emergency, communicating with crew on flight deck etc. and B. This enables the alarm system to now be available again if you have another emergency! This goes for any Master Caution illuminated etc. as well - the sooner you reset it the sooner it is available again to warn you.

Hello again Bike Guy, Ah well I'm sure working on the Orion would have been great fun! The Orion / Electra is a classic. I'm with you on the glass cockpits, despite being a "child of the magenta line" (though not really - I've flown many more aircraft that didn't have one). I hope you will forgive my inclusion of the GTN then haha, I just love the functionality it brings (even to the point of simply being able to see the place names of the locations I am flying over). I would like to take the time to learn the KNS-80 also, but there's always another addon to be reviewed ha. Completely agree re cancelling the warning / caution. It was probably an error on my part, but as best I could tell, the only way to cancel the fire bell on the King Air, was to fire off the extinguisher (which was the last item on the checklist) - the Master Warning pb seemed to have no effect there? Thanks again and all the best! : )

80% torque for climb? where did you get that from? you should be climbing at max torque and then 785 ITT when you start hitting that limit during the climb. no need for high idle during takeoff. 12% N1 for fuel, not 18% props full forward before engine start - 1050rpm is minimum for low idle auto-ignition not needed for engine start. that's typically a runway line up item. really only required for TIP. Turbulence, Ice, Precip. most will leave it on from takeoff to landing. also not sure if it's your flying or low power settings, but we fly it much faster in real life. I typically climb at 170 KIAS, there's a point in the high teens when that will match up with .33 or .34 mach, then I'll transition to climb at that mach speed. Matches the climb schedule perfectly. About 210 KTAS all the way up. oh and not sure what that alarm was when your engine failed, there's no aural alarm for that in the real plane. Maybe an EFIS thing? I fly the proline 21 version.

Hi ゆうた, thanks for the pointers. Unfortunately, given the number of addons I cover on the channel, I can't really learn all of them to an expert degree. For videos like this, I tend to pick up a checklist (real-world where possible) and run the aircraft with that. All of the procedures I ran here, were as per the checklist I was using (though this was not a real-world checklist, as I was unable to find one). No doubt there were some inaccuracies, but the idea is to give the viewer a reasonably accurate view of the product, rather than specifically teaching them how to fly a King Air etc. As to the inaccuracy of the fire alarm, I'm afraid I can't comment on that (not having any real-world experience on the King Air myself). Perhaps it's simply a difference between King Air variants, avionics setups etc? I hope that clarifies things and thanks again for your feedback. All the best! : )

I actually just signed up to FTSim’s Patreon myself. They produce custom soundpacks for various addons; I gather the King Air (both default and Black Square versions) is supported, though I haven’t tried that soundset myself yet (but people seem to speak highly of it). The lowest Patreon is £2 a month and you can subscribe, download as many soundpacks as you like and then cancel (should you so wish), so it’s worth a punt if you aren’t happy with the current King Air sounds. Just a suggestion anyway, I don’t have any affiliation with FTSim etc ; ) Happy flying! : )

I like the King Air too Rickie and have made a couple of videos with it in the past. Default aircraft don’t tend to draw all that much interest though I think, hence why you won’t see too many videos with them on RU-vid. As Just Flight allude to, this is a drastic overall of the King Air and I know I’ll be flying it again on the channel at some point (because it’s great fun), I’m sure others will also. @IntotheBlueSimulations 2 года назад
Hi Fire Fox, As mentioned during the review, the addon does include some basic changes to the default flight model (Black Square are quite upfront about the flight model changes only being minor). It's been a long old while since I've flown the default King Air, but the changes certainly seemed to have the aircraft handling far better than I recall otherwise being the case. As Kengou points out though, the King Air was actually one of the aircraft that received some of the new MSFS CFD modelling / physics, so it should be one of the better default aircraft at this point anyway. I can't attest to how accurate the Black Square flight model is, but I like how the aircraft flew overall. I hope that helps a bit. All the best! : )

@@IntotheBlueSimulations Ah yes, sometimes it's slow even with the scroll wheel. It's for that reason that I changed the cockpit interaction mode to the lock mode instead of legacy, that way I can just click on the knob and move it with my mouse for big adjustments and then use the wheel for smaller ones. I suggest you give it a try. If you don't like lock mode, you can also use the scroll wheel and the click spot at the same time to go even faster.

Excellent review of the plane! Definitely on my list. I love the pragmatic and checklist-oriented approach to the video. The standardised approach really helps those new to the aircraft to learn the basic procedures and enjoy the aircraft more! I will be using your videos definitely, when I have the KA pack added! One thing I did notice: changing from high idle to low idle in flight should have zero effect on anything. It only changes the N1 at idle power lever settings, and is used on the ground to allow the use of air conditioning on the ground on hot days, or for cross-engine starting, as you demonstrated. It also is used on short-field landings to reduce the spool up times when requiring full reverse (going from ~70% instead of ~60%). If anything, high idle in the air might cause problems slowing a little on descent, as the engine has quite some power at 70% N1, even at idle (check out how the KAs taxi at high idle out of beta range!)
@alehead
@alehead Год назад
Oh, and the landing lights are not visible until your landing gear is down. Please correct me if I am wrong, but the landing and taxilights on the Kingairs are all positioned on the front landing gear. There would be no point switching on the landing lights until you drop the wheels...
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
Thanks very much Alehead, I’m really glad you enjoyed the review / found it useful! I try and run through things as accurately as I can (in the time I have available) as 1) I enjoy it haha 2) I figure it acts as somewhat of a tutorial, for those that are new to the addon (though I’m by no means an expert when it comes to the King Air etc) and 3) I think it makes accurately demonstrating / reviewing the product that much easier. I can definitely recommend the Black Square King Air, it’s still my favourite of their addons to date and one of the most enjoyable aircraft within the sim (there is also a separate sound pack available for the King Air, which I keep meaning to try). Give the number of addons I review and the free time I have available, unfortunately I can’t always fill in all the gaps in my knowledge and so tend to stick pretty religiously to whichever checklist I am using at the time. Here, I was using an X-Plane checklist, which I subsequently found out does have some inaccuracies, but if the checklist says put the condition levers forward, I put the condition levers forward haha (same for the landing lights and that’s also a force-of-habit from the real world, where on the aircraft I fly, the landing lights are not dependant on the gear position). The condition levers are an interesting one though; I’ve had multiple different opinions, from multiple different King Air pilots (so I wonder if the procedure is not operator specific?). Thanks very much for the feedback! Much appreciated and all the best : )

A few things, although I am sure you already are familiar with these as the video was uploaded 5 months ago. No need for the Auto Ignition step upon engine start/You'd normally leave the CL in High Idle for the entire duration of the flight. The IAS mode does work - 170 Knots is a good climb speed if you don't wanna climb too high, otherwise 160 above FL100 is and maybe 150 above FL150 or FL200 will get you to the high twenties within 15 minutes. You can also follow the published climb speeds and then CLB mode selects speeds based on different altitude blocks. Your climb performance was very weak due to the incorrect CL setting. Great video though!
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
Thanks for the info Zsolt! Some of those errors came from the checklist I was using (the checklist was based on the X-Plane King Air, where Auto Ignition is, seemingly erroneously, required for the start) and some just came from a lack of familiarity with the type. Unfortunately, given the number of addons I review and also the amount of free time (or lack thereof) I have in which to do so, I can’t learn every aircraft I cover in exacting detail; I try my best to learn an aircraft’s systems, find a checklist and run that as accurately as I can and the rest of the blanks I then tend to fill in with educated guesses etc. I certainly appreciate you taking the time fill in some of the details though and I’m really glad you enjoyed the video as well! @IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
Hello again, Heyemeyohsts, I’m very sorry, but I can’t really help you there: I’ve never flown a King Air in the real world, nor am I a certified instructor, so I don’t think it would be appropriate / safe, if I was giving you guidance based on what I’ve picked up in the sim. Further to that, I simply don’t time for any on-on-one’s etc at the moment. Going from a C172 to a King Air is indeed a big jump! There’s only so much you can learn in the sim, when it comes to the actually handling of the aircraft, but certainly the Black Square King Air should be a useful tool, for learning the aircraft’s systems etc. Best of luck with your continued training! : )
