NOTE At the time we filmed this, we weren't aware that a price had been released for the addon. It's going to be £27.99, which puts it at the upper end of what we considered appropriate as we were reviewing it here. I'd certainly say it's worth it if you're a King Air or turboprop enthusiast though!
Join Nathan and Kitty as they take a first look at Black Square's latest analogue re-hash of one of MSFS's default aircraft, the King Air 350!

Apparently you can switch to the gtn 750 free ware version in this. Via a switch. Can you confirm this?
@kokoeteantigha389
@kokoeteantigha389 Год назад
Yup, go to the first officer's position, preferably knock off the yoke and you'll find two switches that you can toggle to bring up the different avionics on offer. The GTN is one of them.

Love your videos. I like the was you preview this product. I never like the King Air because it’s glass Cockpit. When it comes on the market I think I’ll purchase it. One small criticism though, when you use your Honey comm , one can’t see wich switch your using.

@FlyFromHome Год назад
Thanks! Yes I try to minimise the number of honeycomb switches I use, but for some things it’s a lot easier and faster than manipulating the cockpit control with the mouse. I’ll try to point things out a bit better in the future.

Very nice! I have been waiting for this addon for a long time! The King Air is my all time favourite aircraft and with this release, it will be the main aircraft that I fly with my simulator. I am wondering, Nathan mentioned he is waiting for his yoke to arrive. Does that happen to be a Brunner Force feedback yoke? If so, would he be interested in sharing the control load profile that he comes up with for the King Air, him being a real life King Air pilot? That would be so awesome! I want to configure my Brunner yoke and pedals for the King Air, but I have no real life experience to draw from, so setting up the appropriate control loading forces is by trial and error atm, and even if I get it to a point where I think it feels right, there is no way for me to know how close it would be to the real thing, as I have never flown a King Air in real life.

Last time I asked I think he was looking at a Honeycomb but I’m not too sure! The settings I used are all just the default ones, but you could try a bit of a curve on the pitch axis to damp down the slight over sensitivity it has.

Finally proper cockpit. With those glass instruments every cockpit looks the same.

I hope we get a study level of every one of the default airplanes the kodiak as an example blow the deafult caravan out of the water. The kodiak is a good caravan replacement. the just flight piper is a good bonanza replacement , and the cessna 310 and 414 are very good twin engine replacements and now this study level kingair is really needed because the default kingair is rubbish.

Yep, fingers crossed Black Square keeps on with this product series. There are some great free mods for some of the default aircraft too.

I did some testing regarding reverse thrust on Trustmaster TCA controller. Most practical was, at least for me at least, was to assign the Trigger button (Joystick button 1) for "Hold Throttle Reverse Thrust". You pull the trust all the way back, then press & hold the trigger, while pushing the throttles forward. It works little "backwards", though. You can add reverse gradually :)
@FlyFromHome
@FlyFromHome Год назад
Hi Ronnie, sounds like you found a decent solution! I would have suggested the ‘toggle reverse’ function which works in a similar way. The reverse detents on my Honeycomb just do all or nothing but seeing as ‘idle reverse’ isn’t a thing in turboprops, I don’t really mind!
@yams900
@yams900 Год назад
@@FlyFromHome Feels little backwards, as I need to push throttles forwards to go backwards :) But it works, that’s the main thing.

I enjoyed the real world takes from the guys doing this vid. Really looking forward to this coming out, the KA200 is a great aeroplane, so I’m sure the 350 is even better. Personally I hope it has even more ancient options for avionics! 👍

It absolutely does - there are options for full stacks of battered old VHF radios. We’ll show them all off on the in-depth review.

28.8V is the correct fully charged voltage for a "24" v system.
@FlyFromHome
@FlyFromHome Год назад
Interesting!
@tomasaguilo3099
@tomasaguilo3099 Год назад
A fully charged battery may show 24.8 - 25.0 V. 28.8 is available with External Power. In fact, I've spotted in one of these JF videos that Voltmeter selector moved to External Power position with EP switch off still shows 28+ volts. Therefore is a design issue.
@genehendricks7925
@genehendricks7925 Год назад
@@tomasaguilo3099 The correct nominal voltage of a 24V lead-acid battery is around 26V fully charged. The voltmeter will show the external power voltage without the switch on so that the supplied voltage can be checked before connecting the GPU to the aircraft's electrical system. Polarity is ensured by the receptacle's relay, and "EXT POWER" will not illuminate unless the polarity is correct, but it does not ensure proper voltage.
@genehendricks7925
@genehendricks7925 Год назад
@@tomasaguilo3099 From the Flight Safety training manual: "External voltage can be monitored anytime - even before the EXT PWR switch on the pilot's left subpanel is switched ON - by turning the VOLTMETER BUS SELECT switch in the overhead panel (Figure 2-7) to the EXT PWR position and reading the voltage on the voltmeter."
@tomasaguilo3099
@tomasaguilo3099 Год назад
@@genehendricks7925 To clarify a bit what you are saying: When the GPU cable is not attached to the EP slot, Voltmeter in External Power position reads 0. Once the GPU is connected (with the EP switch in OFF position), a flashing EXT PWR amber message displays in the Annunciator panel, and Voltmeter in EP position must read between 27.5 and 28.4 volts. To make EP available for the electrical system, EP switch must be turned ON; making the EXT PWR amber message remain steady.

Is it supposed to take off and complete a flight in low idle as per the video?? Very Interested in learning this plane, I love steam gauges :D
@Overheadjoin
@Overheadjoin Год назад
Hello Nathan here, yes the aircraft is flown completely in low idle for the exception of cross generator Starting, certain ground operations and for an approach with maximum reverse required on a short field landing.

Recently picked this up because I love their Cessna 208, but I will say this isn't a very VR friendly aircraft. In some ways it is more friendly than the 208 (the HSI/Altimeter are far easier to read) but other areas it is not. The main issue is the location of critical flight controls, ala Autopilot, being located down by your feet between the seats. Very hard to work with and read. Also the master caution panel is nearly impossible to read in my Quest 2 due to low contrast, though I'm hopeful things will be easier whenever m y Crystal shows up.
@FlyFromHome
@FlyFromHome Год назад
That’s interesting! I don’t have any VR gear so I can’t check out that aspect of the aircraft for the review.
@JohnVanderbeck
@JohnVanderbeck Год назад
@@FlyFromHome Yeah perfectly understandable. I was just adding my own thoughts from that perspective. It is interesting how flying in VR changes many of these aircraft. Clearly VR isn't considered in the design, and while of course they are designed to be realistic, there are sometimes issues that have nothing to do with realism (to the best of my knowledge anyway) that sometimes feel they could be better. For example on this aircraft, in VR the top master caution panel (the one that has all red labels) is essentially unreadable in VR. But regardless, I think it is certainly interesting how what looks like a really fun aircraft suddenly becomes less simply due to the ergonomics of VR. That autopilot panel on the ground is just really not ergonomically friendly in VR where one has to look but still use a mouse, versus real world where you would just use your hand. That said it still seems like an odd place to stick an important control panel haha. Wonder if working it is odd in the real aircraft since you need to look down there. For these reasons I've been enjoying Black Squares Cessna 208B a lot more and really enjoying learning how to work that old school RNAV system.

What's your recommendation regarding reverse thrust, how to configure my Trustmaster controller ? IfI assign "Hold Throttle Reverse Thrust" to a button, it seems full reverse thrust will be produced. Can the reverse thrust be gradually applied ?
