This song is his opus magnum. The intricate wordplay and layering of meaning is beyond anything I've ever heard in 20 years of listening to hip hop. Gives me goose bumps every time.

I’ve been rocking with Black Thought and The Roots from the beginning. The fact that he’s been doing this for 30 dammed years is insane enough. But, the depth of his lyricism continues to evolve. In my mind, he now has a legitimate claim to GOAT status!

Easily the most outstandingly underrated lyrical rapper out there!

His verse on Eminem’s Yah Yah is 🔥 even has Em ad-libbing “keep going”

I'm gonna have to make a Black thought playlist that has one song on it on repeat about fifty times to properly appreciate each track.

I've been saying this about Black Thought for years. The incredible thing is that he has gotten even better!!! There are a lot of talented lyricist and people that have flow throughout the history of hip hop. But where this dude is at is RARE. That's why I get sort of upset when I see ridiculous claims from people about rappers and hip hop artists that are sooooo much lower than Black Thought's level. I think it's that he is SO good and says SO much in his music that it flies right over the heads of people that are trained to listen for beats instead of lyrical content and the meaning and clever skill behind them. Did I just call them slow. I did. I said what I said. Black Thought is one of the greatest ever to touch a microphone....easily. Don't talk to me about no Drake. Stop it.

I appreciate your appreciation of the mans skill.... he is definitely in a class of of his own..... many imitate but their delivery is not authentic its like their reaching and straining to do what Tariq the teacher does.

He is not underrated, under appreciated. There is a huge difference. He is my number 1 and I grew up in NY. No one is calling him out and everyone knows that matters in his industry. Under appreciated not underrated!!
