I was at this concert in 81. Peter Tosh was sitting at the back of the stage watching on, he was on two days later what a summer to remember watching them both, Sly, and Robbie along with Mike Choung on lead guitar were the backing musicians for Tosh as well, continue to RIP Puma the the American sistren who passed on a long time ago also RIP Robbie, and Duckies.

Sly and Robbie with Black Uhuru were one of the most hypnotic groups ever. Talk about healing,, deep Audio Ritual Transmission, release all of the vibrations that don't serve your deepest, cosmic consciousness, body~mind~spirit are 1.
Agree 100%. Throw in that lead guitar work by Darryl Thompson & it's a lethal mix. 💥🔥🔥🔥 Sly Dunbar one of greatest drummers ever, no matter the music genre.
I USED THIS ON VIDEO AND TAPE I AM BIG FAN BLACK UHUR LATE GREAT PUMA JONES GOD BLESS YOU JAH GUIDE 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇪🇹🇪🇹🇪🇹🦁🦁🦁 LIVING LEGEND OF REGGIE MUSIC MR MICHAEL ROSE BIG UP YOUR SELF DRED RESPECT
In America,i think, there s no spirit left, just in the uknthere is still something bubbling .in dub, roots, dancehall it,s still roots, but the ,, reggae" from jamaica it,s boring r&b
no no, not feeling groundation the lead singer sounds terrible plus it just look like a bunch of jews taking over rasta music and not doing a very good job of it to be honest.
indigowarrior8 it doesnt matter what they are, the truth is in the lyrics, and you should know that, its not about being a rastaman, its about being a human, we are all one , if you think 1race is better than another you are lying to yourself, one love
R.I.Love Puma Selassie Rastafari so such a blessings meeting you in Jamaican 1980 in constant uptow n Market you encouraged I so sing. Greatest band Black Uhuru my Ank U Puma you will always bee in my ❤.❤💛💚 17:55 💛💚💗
Puma is at the same level of the I-three. Don’t forget Judy Mowatt, Marcia Griffiths and of course, Rita Marley are renowned female reggae artists prior to join BMW. Nevertheless Puma was an amazing reggae female voice.
Black Uhuru played Friars in Aylesbury in 1981 and to this day it is still the best concert I have ever been to and believe me when I tell you I have been to a few.
snap when i saw Bob & the Wailers/Ithrees @Glasgow Apollo 1980, Scottish fans galore and i was only one of colour im jamaican indian and i was welcomed like a king and never forget my 1st live concert experience and Bob & full crew his last in UK as he passed over a tear later as you know . .Uhuru my next best fav group and then Twinkle Bros and Burning Spear/ Mighty Diamods etc..
This is a proper performance, no lip syncing and they sound exactly the way they sounded on plastic.............One of the greatest Jamaican groups ever.
All thanks to Sly & Robbie for tightening up the rhythm like they did with Peter Tosh and also the thanks to Daryl Thompson on lead guitar okr otherwise this group wouldn't be the first reggae Grammy winner followed by Peter Tosh posthumously in 1988.
This gig and Uhuru at Essen, Germany 81 are brilliant, Marley's spirit lived on in this band, the vibe lived on, but what has happened since people ? This is the vibration of truth and rebellion against Babylon, and the shitsm is more than ever ruling today, blood up fight da shitsm people.
This concert is recorded on. LP,, island.,, a tour true Europe together with rolling stones. This period they were straight on there top. Bob open doors, Black Uhuru boom them out,Real Rootz Rock Reggea
The best reggae singers are from here in Waterhouse, Firehouse... Cuba, Wailaz, Moscow, Samacan, Buckas, kool kat corner, Bushmouth, Capture, Binns Road..
Michael Rose had issues with Duckie Simpson & left the group. Had this exact lineup with Darryl Thompson on lead guitar stayed intact, im pretty sure they would've been even bigger. Still my all time favorite band, reggae or otherwise.
@@smoothoperator7023 Agreed. It kinda started to fall apart esp when Rose left. I believe his wife played her part it it. This trio though were on a next level. RIP the beautiful Puma. She was GOLD
Tear It Up Michael Rose (lead vocals) Puma Jones (background vocals) Duckie Simpson (background vocals) Sly Dunbar (drums) Robbie Shakespeare (bass) Christopher "Skyjuice" Berth (percussions) Derryl Thompson (guitar) Billy Johnson (guitar) Franklyn "Bubbler" Waul (keyboards)
Michael Rose was the true original genius of Black Uhuru. He had the voice, stage presence and the songwrting abilities. Such a pity he and Duckie fell out..Black Uhuru could have been a truly global band to rival the wailers.
The did already and the won by far away,, thus is the best on reggae, but don't forget Don Carlos and nowadays Rebelution,, the reminds me at this black uhuru, the so good, watch dem brada
When I was still kinky and young, I learned about my work (there were many Rastaas), know the rhythms of Black Uhuru, and after all these years, I still like to listen, good luck, from a fan-Hein.
THE BEST REGGAE GROUP I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE !!! I AM THE LUCKY GUY WHO BEEN THERE AND THAT WAS IN AMSTERDAM IN THE SAME TOUR !! It was really way and way better ! But must say this UK concert was also good i have enjoyed it very much ! Still miss them ! Hope to see them once more ... Are they still on stage ANYBODY ????? MUST go there they are sooooooooo good ! That concert was AWESOME ! The bassline gave me hearth problems !! Haha those days man !!;)))
Yes Black Uhuru still going in name ..I think its Garth Dennis & backing vocals...No Sly & Robbie ,Don Carlos etc unfortunately ( though i did catch Michael Rose again a while back performing 'Music of black Uhuru ' with mafia & fluxy backing)
Saw them about a year ago before covid, Michael Rose, Sly & Robbie in Philadelphia in a small venue. Was about 15 feet away from Sly- the man is incredible! He tore those drums up for over 2hrs. My 2 all time favorites- B.U. & Burning Spear👊🏾
I koʻu wā i kinky a'ōpiopio, ua aʻo au e pili ana i kaʻu hana (he nui nā Rastaas),ʻike i nā mele o ka Uiuli Uiuli, a ma hope o kēia mau makahiki a pau, makemake au e hoʻolohe, maikaʻi, mai ka mea hihi-Hein.
I listened to a recent concert with Mykal and a band I think is from Europe and it sounded stiff There is certain swing and drop to reggae that makes it unique and they didn't have it They were playing the songs as we say in Jamaica too straight They need to study these masters
Really?? Well i guess better late than never! 🤷🏽♂️ I've been a huge follower over 30yrs. I sensed something about them the first time i heard them. Hard to really research them in the days before the internet & RU-vid! Sly & Robbie were BRUTAL. Throw in that lead guitar & you had a lethal combination. 💥🔥
Puff she puff classic RIP Puma Jones and the late Robbie Shakespear this group was unstoppable back in the day but infight cause the break up just imagine what could have been.
