Clearly this is a movement amongst BW. I quit my job on February 4, 2022 and have not looked back. I was pushed to a point where I had to make a decision. My freedom and peace of mind was more important to me than that job. I feel much freer and am working on my mental health and rediscovering me and my femininity. What a blessing to have the clarity of mind to know when enough is enough. I found Stephanie Perry about two weeks ago and was glad to see I am not alone in my journey. Thank you, Dahlia for contributing to this topic.

yes, it's the time for us to quit the hamster wheel...for whatever reason, the ancestors are calling for us to be free...they allowed us to see that what we thought we valued was taught to us by a system that values money over people...teaching us to work, at a job we hate, to buy things we can't afford to live a sick lifestyle until we die...we are choosing to say NO!!! right on sistar...

I quit my toxic, well paying corporate job in September 2020. It was the best decision ever!!! I did plan my quit through with lots of savings and I am completely debt free!! I say that because people need to plan their way out financially so they can take a break as long as they need to without stressing about paying their bills!!! I "quit" in 2016 at 47 yrs old. I was working Corporate America had a decent paying job. I'm a disabled Air Force Veteran. I took an FMLA mental health break from corporate job. Pursued buying a home using my Real Estate license. Lender told me I needed to go back to work before closing on home. So I went back for a few weeks closed on my house (used the job for my goals). Stressors at work persisted. I went back out on FMLA. HR DEMANDED I return to work or be terminated. 😒 I did not need that level of stress in my life. I'd rather hustle up my coins and be happier than deal with management and "leadership" that doesn't care about my health. Six years later my home investment has great equity. I have savings and 1099 income and work temp jobs periodically for 6-12 months, on my terms. YOLO!

This really resonates with me. I quit a FT independent contractor gig without another one lined up yesterday. As a Black woman in my 40s I realized that I will ALWAYS stay in roles where I am marginalized, not valued, and sidelined, if I don’t pivot now for my mental health and overall well-being, I walked away. I have been screaming with my heart that Black women need to reclaim JOY, FREEDOM, And FLEXIBILITY. This journey has been exhausting for us as a collective. Your message is powerFULL! On Friday, I completed a 7 day work week. When I got off, I put in my resignation. They ask could I stay prn. I said no. I’m breaking free and I will embrace my journey as a full time day-trader. So happy I came across your video. I love the idea of black women normalizing quitting. Many of us have been programmed to force ourselves to "tough it out," "stick with it," and endure situations that don't serve us for way too long. These jobs are extremely toxic. What upsets me most is corporate does not care about work-life balance but pretend too. For example, offering pto but only allowing employees to use it based on "business needs." I'm quitting my 6 figure job to be a stay at home wife, unapologetically.

I'm not there yet with feeling OK to quit...but I'm approaching. Like many of the women in the comments, I've been working all my life. I grew up on a farm down south. I am my mom's only child and was my dad's youngest child and the only child living in the home at the time so I started working at 8. (Can we pause for a moment and think about how the adultifucation of black girls has robbed so many of us of childhood?) By the time I was 13, I was running my parent's store/produce stand by myself after school, had household chores, outdoor chores...and still trying to maintain my grades because I dreamed of higher ed. By the time I turned 17, I worked at Walmart, left for college and worked multiple jobs at a time to get myself through college. And I've been working in corporate America since college. I'm 51 and I feel that I do not understand how to feel joy. My elderly parents now rely on me. My dad is deceased but my stepdad is battling cancer and my mom's health is not as good as it could be so I support them as best I can. I'm at a point where I need a break. I may not be at a point where I feel cool to quit but I've changed radically enough already that I know that's where I am heading. I stepped up my prayer/spiritual life to the point that I've been experiencing synchronicities that are helping me manifest more peace/protect my peace most of the time. I am debt free (but not yet a minimalist...working toward that but not sure yet how I will find time to purge the mountain of personal belongings I've accumulated while still working. I've been trying to toss or give away a little here and there but it hasn't made a dent). I made radical changes to my diet to I can get out of the metabolic disease/syndrome trap that so many of us fall into. Down 20 pounds. I found a wfh job even prior to covid and that has helped but tbh, I still want out. I still work in a stressful, deadline driven field and have to be on camera every day, multiple times a day "wearing a corporate mask). I just don't have to do the daily commute on top of it which I am grateful for. Other people who don't feel that deep down tired on the inside feeling don't get why I would ever want out of such a great gig so I don't talk about my dream of freedom because I'm tired of being judged and I'm tired of people just expecting black women to sacrifice joy their entire lives. I may not be there with some of you yet but I hear you, I applaud 👏🏽 you...and I'm following close behind.

Thank you for sharing your story and those 4 questions. I just left my extremely abusive corporate job a few weeks ago without having a backup position. Although I don't yet have a source of income, I'm working on some projects that I hope will allow me to never have to go back to working for a company again. I have no regrets with leaving, so much of my chronic pain has disappeared or been significantly reduced even after a week of leaving. I want to live free and feel free.

People hired after me are being promoted to positions I told my boss I wanted to learn; positions he said nobody would want to take the time to train me in. I am ready to quit but I'm going back and forth about it because I'm thinking I don't have enough savings and the whole nine. I'm really scared to quit and I'm scared not to quit. Dahlia, Here's my situation. I am also stressed out. I needed to request a transfer. I could not handle the site anymore. Waiting for my boss to find me a new site. I had to leave the lawfirm account. Too much drama, too much politics. Putting a dead mouse inside my security blazer with an attached threatening post-it message is the straw that broke the camel's back. It is a toxic environment. I worked there for almost 2.5 years. The silent treatment became unbearable but the dead mouse and threatening note did it for me. Monday night was my last day. I am now a man without a site anxiously waiting to start working at a new location. People are really mean which is the main reason why I love to be alone. Thank God I have enough sense to save money for a rainy day. I hope to be at a site in the next few days. You say?

House note, rent due, car note, food, clothes, insurance etc.... How do you have all these things without having a job? Can you please tell me?

Hello gurl...Well The universe sent your video my way. My situation is similar but different. I actually have a dream new career only began end of April.. Seriously it would be worth it but it is just not enough pay when im supporting others in complex situations for minimal pay. After childcare costs here in UK rising cost of living for all. I'm left with not much time to enjoy living... and bills i cant pay as debts rise....So im worse off financially working full time...and now more mentally I'm seeing the draining damage. As a single mom of 8year old son..I have to think twice or more lol he needs a happy mom rich in peace not just the pocket! I have left jobs and let others go many times before... and when i put my time into me first and not working like a slave despite my passion to support others I Am Totally Happy And Free!! Gonna trust my divine intuition and the universe as it hasnt let me down yet 🙏🏾 Focusing on the beautiful things ive achieved now and to come. Thank you for sharing dear I definitely resonate with it all 🙏🏾 Looking forward to being free to touch others with my singing performances again as I'm fulfilled wayy more just doing this once or so a month as an awesome hobbie with abit of meaningful work on the side 🤣🌻

A lot of people in this comment section are quitting. But, no real speak of how you intend to pay for your life until you die... Many of you are depending on a man to provide for you, which is perfectly fine, but why are we not including that part in your comments? Encouraging black women to quit without also encouraging marriage is a set up for poverty long term. I find it quite interesting that part is being left out...
