We still need BlackBerry and physical keyboards even as we are about to enter 2024! BlackBerry keyboards are the best and still the gold standard, and I think there is still a need for physical keyboards and BlackBerry security!

Totally agree. Have had BlackBerry phones since forever. Been thru all brands since early 1990's. My BlackBerry Key2's battery was running out this past summer so I purchased a Bold Blue N3 and used for 2 mos. I just purchased a new battery for my BlackBerry Key2 and have move SIM back to my BlackBerry. I missed the keyboard and the size of my BlackBerry so much. I use my phone mostly for communications and social media so it still works great. It was becoming slow for sharing movies to my smart TV.

I'd love to have a new BlackBerry and a good physical keyboard again. BB10 OS was actually pretty awesome, still feels like a polished OS in 2023 honestly. It's an OS option I wish we still had but even if they did a refreshed BlackBerry with Android, I think many would be really happy just for the BlackBerry keyboard / hardware.

1000 % I agree with you! I would love so much to have another phone like my Passport. Typing on glass keyboards doesn’t cut it for me. Especially agree with you about typing on the iPhone. It really does suck. Typing on the Pixel 8 Pro with G board is considerably better, but nothing compares to a physical keyboard.

I'm not sure if I agree 💯 with a "need" for physical QWERTY keyboards, but WANT ? Yessss please, most def ! At least give us Options, like we used to have in non-Apple world. I've never been fully comfortable with typing on a glass display, and even "tools" like Swype aren't ideal workarounds, since they are fine for short words, but not longer ones. Some type of physical-key option on my current daily driver (Galaxy S22 Ultra) would be such a welcome change. I've actually been considering upgrading to a foldable phone -- again, partly just to have more typing options (specifically, screen real estate, perhaps augmented by a stylus).

Have a dual interface option, have full smartphone etc yes BUT also have an option to make it simple. “Dumb phones” are making a come back and Android based ones so you can still have WhatsApp, music player of choice etc but still being simple and straightforward so you don’t doom scroll! Something 9000/9900 bold size would be awesome, and that size screen would be perfect for a “dumb” phone alternative!

Blackberry should allow us to open the bootloader of their previous phone (Iike the Passport which was a power house) or maybe make a tool for us to be able to update their bb10 with a newer Android or Android runtime. As of now, I am often switching my sim between my Key2 (main phone) or my Passport Android Edition (but only for communication :no banking apps and stuff) . Sometime i like to only have a small phone in my pocket like a Classic or P9986 PE but their android apps lag too much nowadays.

agreed, but not just the keyboard, they just are so cool, looking and so well designed… I’m basically new to BlackBerry, but I’ve been almost entranced by the way they set up their desktop and look and feel of their keys and screens, and just the overall shape of their later phones. if someone could put updated processors and tech into something like the classic or bold or passport or curve I think it’d be a bigger success than we realize…

Also possibly buy a modern version of a E63/E72, IF Nokia decided to make one, even IF they made it with something like a version of KaiOS so that it COULD have the likes of WhatsApp/Signal etc etc. After all, they HAVE been releasing modern versions of their classics - 3310, 8210 4G, 6310, 8000 4G etc etc... One of the big reasons that I did not get into unihertz, the keyboard, symbol and punctuation layout. Being a long-time BB user, I did not want to relearn a new keyboard. Question for you: imagine unihertz had licensed the patent for a BB keyboard on their phone. How would that have affected your experience with the titan?
@SupercarEngg
@SupercarEngg 3 месяца назад
@@suryanima_chandranima If the keyboard layout was the same as BB, maybe I would have kept it just for a rainy day, I am not sure. My BB Key2 still works great, but some apps are no longer supported. Having a newer phone would have fixed this problem. But the Titan Slim was bulkier and heavier than my BB, with a smaller and lower resolution screen, and a camera that was even worse than my old BB. I might have kept that Titan Slim in my desk drawer, but I would not have switched to using it as my primary phone. It is a bad Chinese knockoff of an already old phone with lots of performance degradations and zero improvements other than a slightly newer OS. It is just completely inadequate and uncool. 100% agree. While I appreciate the camera and the social media ease of use on my iPhone 15 Pro Max, the typing is horrendous. It's inaccurate, and as you mention they messed something up big time with the editing capabilities. Sometimes you can touch and prod and slide and the curser STILL doesn't go where you want it. I would get a BBY keyboard phone in an instant if they made one. I would even use a Key1 if it worked on ATT where no BBYs work anymore. I got easily 85 wpm on my old BBYs. I get 35 wpm, at most maybe, on the iPhone, and almost never get a full sentence that is typed correctly without editing. With the autocorrect on it is unusable. With it turned off, it gets better but still "estimates" the wrong letters, even when you directly hit the correct key. Here's hoping someone gets it and creates something. I'd even take a typo-type keyboard (feature fixed of course) to slide on my iPhone. Anything.

Unihertz gave it a good try, but I think were not funded enough to push out a higher end product. The/one problem is that communication/production devices can’t earn companies nearly as much money as consumer/consumption devices.

I used to love keyboard phones. I have fond memories of my BlackBerries and Droids. If Unihertz would've put their goddamn shift key in the right place I would've bought one of their Titans.

I loved all my Blackberry's over the years. I wish I could get a new one. I love the Physical keyboard. I am currently using a Unihertz Titan and it has one. It's not bad but It's not a BB though. It does have a qwerty keyboard though.

Honestly - I would be happy with a physical keyboard attachable e.g. in a cover - would be better than nothing…

Re: AI on phones - that's, IMHO, part of the problem. The fairly primitive 'AI' is trying to guess what you mean rather than being able to either just type exactly what you mean(which is how I used my Blackberrys) or allowing you to set/teach your individual device what words you usually mean to type. As an example of this failure: I misspelled 'primitive', above, by a single letter and the device couldn't figure out what I could possibly mean.

The death of 2G and 3G killed off all the non-Android BlackBerry users, I'd go back if I could.

I definitely miss physical keyboards. My last BB was the Bold 9780. I personally loved the smaller size of the 7100 and Pearl 8100 models. My last 4 SureType models were the 7100t, 7105t, Pearl 8100 and Pearl 8120. I also had a few full sized models (7730 and Bold 9780). Give me one of those phones with updated secure software and a bigger touchscreen and I will ditch the iPhone in a heartbeat lol

I'm all about a keyboard. Would love to see Motorola Think Phone with a BB keyboard. From a business perspective, a business phone needs it.

I would like to see a modern phone/slate/tablet that has a horizontal sliding keyboard w/ capabilities for outdoorsy stuff. It could also be worn on a forearm while trekking the wild and still be able to operate daily task like plotting courses or communicating with other members that aren't near. Also having the ability to dual boot win/android/linux os options. #niche_market

I don't like the Unihertz Titan line even though I wanted to. They just ended up being inferior devices to the ones they were attracting from in my opinion. The Titan was good for a first phone, but they shouldn't be selling it with how old it is and lacking in updates. Too huge as well for me personally. The Pocket was what the OG should have been, but they removed water resistance which doesn't make sense in a rugged phone. It's just a bulky BlackBerry Classic in my opinion, but was the best one they made. The Slim completely missed it feels like, it's inferior in nearly every regard to the Key series, and is super thick and without a headphone jack. I have zero interest in it. I was really hoping they would take inspiration from the Luna and Jelly which are hot sellers ans go for a sleek slim design this time, but it seems like they abandoned physical keyboard phones since it's been nearly 2 years.

I took a hard pass on the UniHertz Titan Slim, and from most things I've heard or read, I'm glad I did. It is a cheap Key2 knockoff with a dreadful build & weird keyboard. I'm still using a Key2, though the battery will need replacing soon.

I think the smaller screen nature of a phone with a physical keyboard is the main drawback. Maybe a full screen slider would work but adds bulk. It's a touch niche.
@JazDj

they can make huge foldable phones and still profit from those, I think it could be fine havin a slider and sacrifice the second screen for a nice keyboard.
