Blackbriar! I love this band. Zora's melodies are fantastic. I have to admit that, while this is a great song, not the one I would have sent as a first reaction. I think watching you react to Selkie would have been hilarious.

Also, Zora, the singer, is the one that catches the idea for their songs, lyrics, videos and main melodies. Zora explained the song further with those words : "In folklore, it's said that to hear the ring of a bluebell is to hear one's death knell. It means that the fairies are gathering and heralding your death. In this song, I ask my muse to turn me into a cicada after I'm gone, so I can still sing to the one that I love. It's said that cicadas were once humans before there were any Muses. When the Muses came into the world, they enchanted some people into singing, they loved singing so much that they forgot to eat and sleep and died. The Muses rewarded them by turning them into cicadas who sing continuously without needing sustenance." Blackbriar is often historically consistent and / or very symbolic. And Zora's voice is indeed a treasure as you noticed❤

Since you like Zora's voice, id recommend Beyond the Black - Free Me. Jennifer Haben also have a great voice as well and similar to Zora's.

Band is from The Netherlands, alternative/gothic/symphonic metal. Lead singer is Zora Cock(I think pronounced like 'coke'), she has a very unique voice, took me a minute to get used to it, but I love it now. 3 EP's and 2 full albums to date. Cicada is a newer song, from the 2nd album ,A Dark Euphony, released last year. They do have beautiful videos. For more, try "Until Eternity", and "Snow White and Rose Red" feat. "My Soul's Demise" interesting medieval concept of so called "sin eaters". Extra special video as not only the band members play a character in the video. But also family members of Zora (the singer), and her patrons are playing a part in it.

Like you I hadn't heard of her. She has a great voice. She reminds me of British singer, composer and performer KATE BUSH. This was more than just a song it was a performance.😊

I subscribed a few months ago when I saw you were doing some Led Zeppelin and some great other 70s classic rock. I have not seen more than 1 or 2 in the last month. Oh well sorry to go but it was fun for a bit!

Having met the bandmembers on multiple occasions, I can truly say that they are very down to earth people with a real passion for their music and their fans. I know i already put in a different blackbriar song request that's scheduled for july, so I was very pleasantly surprised to see this one pop up already.

I actually stumbled into their performance at summer breeze in Germany last year and was really impressed, would definitely not deny seeing them again

The cicadas have been used as a symbol of singers since ancient times because of their pleasant chirping. For just as long, their chirping will be condemned as noise. It's like real singing ;-) Zora's voice is often compared to Kate Bush. To my ears, she sings a little deeper and is stylistically more oriented towards classical music. The videos always tell these little stories. The band was formed in 2012, at a Slash concert that Zora Cock and drummer René Boxem attended. But it wasn't Slash who impressed them, but the opening band Halestorm. Their first single sounds a lot like that too, with a screaming Zora. The two are also big Gothik fans and are breaking away from it again. Instead, dark symphonic metal emerges. Zora is the creative center. She does the melodies and storyboards for the videos.
