Blackened Thrash could totally be its own branch. There are so many bands that really do that style well. From the essentials like Destroyer 666, Angelcorpse, and Goatwhore to the newer bands like Atlas Entity, Skeletonwitch, and Frosthelm there definitely enough awesome bands to make it a branch.

I love Jason, easily the best guest you've had.

Hypocrisy are the epitome of blackened death.I swear Hypocrisy do not get much love ever.They are a fantastic band and Peter Tagtgren is a metal genius and legend!

Glad the audio is fixed! I thought Lock Horns established a precedent that one album shouldn't warrant inclusion on the tree, so that would rule out Sepultura. I would also omit Deicide and Morbid Angel. Aren't they integral to the Florida death metal scene? Looking forward to a blackened thrash episode!

I absolutely love the show! I would like to hear music from the band being discussed played in the background. That would satisfy my metal thirst while watching.

I'd include Dawn from Sweden. They became a forgotten band because they still haven't recorded anything for nearly 20 years but still they were very important.

Some of the contemporary acts have put out some of the most interesting "blackened" death metal. Suffering Hour, Convulsing, Zhrine, Golgothan Remains, Our Place of Worship is Silence, Abyssal, Mylingar, and Defacement come to mind.

Noctem and Hate are both bands that completely encapsulate the genre of Blanked Death Metal.

I'm curious to know your opinion on best albums under 25 minutes and those over 60 minutes.

I am sad to say that I think you forgot many of the best bands in this subgenre, but the one that I especially miss is Necros Christos!

Great to see God Dethroned on there, go listen to The Grand Grimoire and Bloody Blasphemy, and the blackened elements are in your face. Their later work may be a bit more death. Best dutch band imho!

YES! I got God Dethroned up, they really deserve to be there not only are they signed to one of the biggest metal label's in the world "Metal Blade" but the band has released quality material throughout the years always been sort of overshadowed but they have to be right up there with Behemoth and Belphegor easily in the top 10 best Blackened Death Metal bands of all time.

I'm suprised their was no mention of HATE. Although recently they have become more of a behemoth clone they definitely are Blackened Death metal.

God Dethroned... Uhhhh yeah! Necrophobic and GD share so many similarities... Maybe melodic blackened death, but glad to see it mentioned right at the end. Fucking excellent stuff. And if you are going to do a blackened/thrash episode, don't forget Nifelheim. Keep it up!

Dont get nitpicky with the subgenres before doing the bigger ones, Post-metal is a must for example, Nu Metal would be a massacre so Im not sure if I wanna see that hahahaha, also Prog could be revisited, Experimental, Avant-garde, Technical Death Metal, lots of genres and a hell of a lot subgenres to get into, cant wait! Great episode!!!!!!! I do however need to express my opinion on a couple of issues. Sepultura was placed in blackened death because of one EP and full length album. Then Morbid Angel and Deicide were placed off to the side. Altars of Madness and Deicide's first album in Jason's thinking was not black enough. That I feel contradicts the inclusion of Sepultura. Altars of Madness out of the three examples provided is more Blackened Death than Deicide or Morbid Visions/EP. David Vincent's vocals is not gutteral/low on that album, atmospheric guitar riffs dominated this album to give a sense of impending doom/evil. What makes Altars of Madness a Death Metal album is the geographic region of the band and the technical playing of Trey Azagoth and Pete Sandoval. If Sepultura is placed permenantly in Blackened Death then Morbid Angel because of one album fits there too. Maybe Possessed should also have a seat at the dinner table as well. ok maybe not but they would be a good bridge between Blackened Thrash and Blackened Death. Goatwhore Blackened Death Sam?

Would of really liked to see Portal get mentioned though perhaps that could be for yet another subsubgenre of Blackened Atmospheric Death Metal. Definitely seconding an additional subsubgenre for War Metal/Bestial Black Metal though, which is where you can put Blasphemy, Archgoat, Conqueror, Revenge, and all those bands.

Two albums I want to just bring up currently in this genre are the Cult of the Horns' new record Chapter I. And the new Masachist album The sect. Check those out anyone looking for some current blackened death

I've been watching Lock Horns since day 1 and you've always said, "one album alone isn't enough to make it on the board". With that logic, Sepultura should have never been considered since they only have one that might be "proto blackened death" (and that's a stretch).

Vital Remains - Let us Pray, Into Cold Darkness and Forever Underground are some Killer Blackened Death Metal... Jeff Gruslin the singer went to form a band called Godless Rising, Some Killer Underground music.. \m/ \m/

I know they onlu touch on Blackened Thrash briefly, but I personally I think bands like Toxic Holocaust and Destroyer 666 fit that mold. Also here the the UK, Manchester have a small but strong Balckened Thrash scene with bands like Aggressive Perfector, Exxxekutioner and Satanic Dystopia.

What the, what about bands like Incantation? Literally there are so many bands that incantation has influenced and like I haven’t heard them talk about them at all. Sure incantation dives into death doom sometimes but like their main mission I think is to provide a soul crushing, inhospitable, occult atmosphere that chills one’s bones, and I mean they deliver like 97.89% of the time.
