Blackjack 42" | 6s and 8s speed runs, plus a couple crashes, bc that's what this boat does! lol

Testing and tuning my Proboat Blackjack 42". First ran on 6s to test stability, and figured I'd get a speed run. Finally moved up to 8s when it proved stable enough. I have quite a few wheel weights in the front of the boat to try to keep the nose down, and I've found that the prop strut likes to be down (at least on my boat). I have no idea how some people are hitting 62 MPH with this boat "stock", but it seems mine just won't do it. Next time I'll put my Octura x450 prop on to test. Anyway, enjoy and please consider subbing!

I run a 10 foot string line with a empty capped plastic bottle behind my rescue craft, make one loop around boat to catch rudder, pull in the boat, i dont flip my gas boat so i pull it im by rudder. Upsidedown you still need a catch point. Way easy to recover this way. There is a video on my channel. Good running and keep tuning.

How's this treating you two months later? I ended up keeping my m41 and not getting the sonicwake. I watched a bunch of videos of people having issues with their new boats and figured since mine's dialled in why go through all that again. Anything you'd change on the BJ42?
@WeissRC
@WeissRC 3 года назад
@@Cynocehali hey man! I've since carved out a lot of foam in the nose, thus sliding my batteries forward. I have two of the 9000mah Zeees now. I also have a 4818 3 blade prop. It took some adjusting, but I've got it reliably doing 70mph now with minimal cavitation. The biggest thing I can recommend with this boat, as soon as you get it, is correcting the CG. It's too far back, which leads to blow overs. They can still happen even when moving batts forward, but they're few and far between. 👍👍

I personally believe the way it runs is due to single prop. My traxxas m41 is the same way. It took me months to figure out the setup and it still doesn’t run as smooth as my twin prop boats
@WeissRC

Propellers, believe it or not can cause all sorts of things. Some create bow lift and some run flat, what it looks like you need is a transom lifting prop to help plant the sponsons and remove the bounce/porpoise. Not sure if they make cupped props for rc boats but they are best of all worlds as they increase top end at speed but have a low enough pitch to get out of the hole quickly.
@WeissRC
@WeissRC 3 года назад
You're absolutely right. I was out with it yesterday and had my new 1917 prop on... Of course it ran like a dream and I didn't get any video. 🙄 LOL. Going to try to get out and video it today. 👍
@unoefxz

@@WeissRC Also, the "X dimension" come into play with all boats. That is the relation of the prop shaft to the bottom of the boat. the bottom of the boat should divide the prop shaft in half. At least on V-bottoms, I would assume the same for a cat. The prop needs a clean flow of water but the closer to the surface, the less drag there is from the shaft. Don't now if you can adjust and play with that but it would also make a huge difference. Lastly, scuffing the bottom creates cavitation which reduces surface friction and increases speed. Waxing the bottom really doesn't do much. Just a few ideas, It is more about the fun than the top speed!

I've noticed on my boat that you can hold it at full throttle without bouncing if you ever so slightly turn the steering to either side. The problem is you're also scrubbing off some top end speed by doing so.

Excellent point, and I have noticed this as well!! Trying to avoid it to achieve higher speeds, but you are absolutely right. 👍👍 Sometimes worth it for additional stability. 😁
@Triplethreatindustries
@Triplethreatindustries 3 года назад
The oscillation is caused by uneven surfaces on the step part of your hull as air travels under the boat it raises and falls as the air pressure passes under the hull. On the fiberglass hulls we sand the two surfaces perfectly flat and true but on the 42 I’m not sure how we are going to fix it as mine has the same porpoise 🐬 affect as yours . Great vid hit on some good points👍 keep the vids coming and post a fix if ya find one . Keep on prop-in on.

@unoefxz

I would suggest scuffing, then epoxy/jd weld the surface and sand it flat. used to do the same thing on my abs mono hulls, also used to build "pads" on them to really get em running on the edge of disaster lol.

And I've also added about 6 oz of wheel weights to it to try and keep the front end down but it still tries to flip what else should I do here trim tabs?
@WeissRC
@WeissRC 3 года назад
For me, the trim tabs really killed the boat's speed and ability to plane. I carved out about 3" of foam from the bow and slid my batteries way forward. This shifted the CG of the boat significantly. The other thing to adjust is your strut angle. Have you tried adjusting your strut all the way down? Some even file the top slot of the strut mount, so they can position the prop even deeper in the water. Let me know man!! Good luck. 😁👍

Spartan or 42” pro boat on 6S. Which handles better?
@WeissRC
@WeissRC 3 года назад
Good question! At higher speeds I would have to say hands down the 42 does, given the wider stance and catamaran design. However, at slower speeds I'd say the Spartan has the ability to carve a tighter turn. 👍 The V-hull is inherently less stable, given it's more narrow footprint and smaller contact surface with the water.
