Anthony moved to Las Vegas in 1978, shortly after he turned 21. When there are 6 or 8 deck games and the cut card is buried about 75% deep, counting cards barely gives you an edge. A one or two deck game is different, however, the casinos frequently reshuffle now. I use basic strategy but I also look for sequences without necessarily counting. After a series of low or high cards in sequence, that tells me whether to raise or lower the bet.

I love these older vids. Areas of note that weren't included are.... True count (TC) is the running count divided by unplayed decks. TC is around a 0.5% advantage for every +1. = +2 is a 0.5% advantage for you, +6 is 2.5% (TC-0.5% house advantage). And wonging (only playing true count of +2 or more = only play when you have the edge) in can greatly cut down the variance.

@@Wagertalk Bhaaaaa I only did it part time back in the day. Dealing with variance when you're trying to exploit a small edge can be maddening.

@7:28 he was right, 0.5% is 50 cents for every $100 bet.. $5 for every $100 would be a 5% house edge and would be impossible to beat by just counting.. you would need to manipulate the deck or mark the cards somehow, which is illegal

Great vid. The time thing is key. I never played more than an hour at one place. Also look for rules that differ from casino to casino. The surrender rule used to be a biggie for me.

His only reference to time was in relation to the fact that with fewer players at your table you will play more hands PER HOUR - that’s regardless of how many hours stay at any given casino. No gaming expert would advise you to rigidly leave at some arbitrary time like one hour. That could actually hurt your odds - are you seriously going to leave a table with a +4 count just because 60 minutes had elapsed? You leave when you reach your predetermined goal (or when you bust).

@@drdrew3 Really man? You can't wrap your head around the idea that the hour guide is so that it lessens your chances of getting noticed? It's a guide, everyone understands that you don't get up and leave at the 60 minute mark (in the middle of a shoe) with a + count. This is why talking to people who don't have practical experience with something but speak as if they have some knowledge is absolutely mind numbing. And since I didn't mention it before, you also don't shit yourself at the table, thought i'd through that in there free of charge, since you need things explained to you.
