Blackmagic Camera App for iOS - Be Careful!!

You need to be careful when using the new Blackmagic Camera App in the new Stealth Mode which allows you to shoot horizontal 16:9 video whilst holding your phone vertically. Whilst it’s very cool o found out that it’s actually cropping in on the sensor and recording a resolution of 2160x1214 so the image is degraded and also the FOV is tighter than when using the phone horizontally and more traditionally to record video clips using the Blackmagic Design Camera app.

ok but after put on verticle mode my capture is also on verticle mode.. 3860x2160... i want it to be horizontal in 3860x2160

I am experiencing a very washed out almost unusable display in log mode in the BM app compared to the display in the iPhone camera app. the files are fine, but the display is the pits. Rec 709 is fine. Any ideas?? Also for those who don't want to clog your iCloud storage, or are not paying for Davinci storage, set the app to Save Clips to In-App only. They can then be downloaded later using iTunes file sharing (the Blackmagic app will be listed as a choice). This bypasses the annoying auto upload to iCloud. Of course an external SSD is most efficient, Samsung T7 works nicely.

When shooting in LOG the image will appear washed out. LOG is for if you plan to do color grading. It allows you to get the most out of the colors and create the look you want when manipulating the look. Rec 709 has the colors baked in. Log is for professional use .

Log is a professoinal profile for people who do this for a living if you haven't used log before I would suggest using a regular codec as it's a waste for you

Very familiar with shooting log format. I have found that the log in the BM app is over exposing by 2 stops and the display confirms this by being blown out if using the auto settings in run and gun scenarios when you don't have time for manual settings. Just my observation. @@MrVh78
