Thank you for the video. You're right in that there's very little information on this unit out there. It would be interesting for me to see how much has changed since it was part of the Fairlight EVO system. Even though Pro Tools is the defacto standard, there is probably a market of people that freelance on jobs away from production facilities that wish to find a solution that doesn't cost them a chunk each year. At the end of the day, if you receive the media, mix and return the stems, what tool you used to do this can become irrelevant. I can't imagine there would be a huge audience for this but how to shift from Pro Tools to Fairlight, for Pro Tool users, is an interesting topic.

I just finished a whole feature film on this setup with Fairlight. It had its issues but I got there in the end. There were things I loved about it and things I did not. The fact that you get the Studio version with the controller and you never have to pay on going fees or pay for upgrades it definitely a benefit.

Have been considering this panel for quite some time now, but it would be an expensive shot in the dark with literally no retailer here (netherlands) with this panel in stock, let alone someone who can demonstrate it. So this has been a pleasure to watch. As an allround video editor and resolve fanatic i would love this thing to work in all pages. I've thought about how it could easily beat the current BMD editor keyboard (which is just a gimmick) with all of it's layered functions. well, one can dream... Anyway, thanks. Would love to see some more in-depth stuff about this thing. I was thinking, a demonstration of a real-life project in combination with the BMD fader panel, to show off how fast and accurate you can fly would be dynamite. I need to convince my boss :)

I've been eying this one and looking out for your video since you did a short on it. Does the Editor go dead when moving away from the Fairlight page, or are some functions changed when moving to the edit or cut pages?
@jochenv1

it’s a bit annoying that most features only work on the fairlight page. i really don’t understand why the transport keys don’t work universally. on the edit page it switches to qwerty and you can use the standard keys for in out play etc. i dinginess they change that…

Yeah a few buttons but not really. You’d hope one day they could make it an video editing piece of kit as well. I guess they don’t want to butcher their other gear.

Thanks for the video👍 just recently made a commercial using only fairlight and it got the job done really well with the latest 18.1 where they FINALLY updated the automation controls on the mixer tab🥳 one thing i find kinda odd is how the preview button always turns off after you’ve used it once. I can’t find a way to toggle it on in the program, and have it stay on. Is it possible to toggle it on with the editor? And how does it handle multiple audio layers if you want to grab an earlier take, for example, and bring ut up?:)
@benniknop
@benniknop Год назад
Not not 100% sure what you mean by grab an earlier take and bring it up. I might see how the Audio Editor works with 18.1 and show you automation including preview mode. Preview mode stays on until you punch or fill automation. So you can alter whatever automation you want with it on and once you punch it, preview mode turns off.

Yes- I DEFINITELY, have a question, or two, or three (your reply gets my “like and subscribe!😊) Is it possible to mix in Dolby Atmos? Is it possible to use a different DAW within the BM echo system? Is it possible to connect an external joystick/ controller (JL Cooper for example,) for doing any kind of surround panning?
@benniknop
@benniknop Год назад
1. According to the manual Atmos is possible. Haven’t tried it yet. I’m upgrading to Atmos in the next month or so, I’ll give feedback and make some videos the. 2. You can use other DAWs with AAFs or OMFs but not really within the eco system. 3. They have custom key commands but also not for every option. I don’t think you can use the JL Cooper. Doesn’t really do midi controllers either.

thanks. Is it a creative tool? I only have 3 to 6 tracks for my videos. Feels like it's to much, although its like the color panel, that helps a lot. Can you compare it with the color panel in speed and even creativity?
@benniknop
@benniknop Год назад
I'd say for the level of audio you're dealing with, it maybe a little overkill. It really depends on how you work and how you'd like to work with your audio. Are you using automation when mixing? Can you do most of your work with the inspector tab?

your crossfade issue will disappear. audio simply plays into any other audio when a fade is applied. there's the crossfade. no audio? : fade from silence. it also utilises a std keyboard and mouse if typing directly is a problem. It is the fastest system , reliable, rock solid, and incredibly innovative. Compared to the 'industry standard' - Fairlight will continue to deliver without constantly being updated , bug fixed, relying on 3rd party plugins , overpriced unitergrated unsupported hardware.
@DownWordGames

Why is it almost $5,000?
@benniknop
@benniknop 9 месяцев назад
It’s a solid piece of kit with faders and an OLED keyboard of buttons. Think about what other devices cost with faders, add a job wheel, put a really really large Stream Deck on it, add a monitor in there, some rotary encoders and house it in a metal construction. Seems pretty fair to me.
