Everything was pretty much wide open or near wide open with a polar pro 6-9 stop ND and 1/8 pro mist. Getting the footage back I don't think these shots really needed the pro mist. The Takumars definetly have a softer more vintage characteristic compared to the Canon FD
Gear used:
BMPCC6k
SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4
Super Takumar 28mm f3.5
Super Takumar 35mm f3.5
Super Takumar 105mm f2.8
Ninja Inferno 7" Monitor
Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/4 (not used)
Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/8
Pro Master 82mm Variable ND
Polar Pro Peter McKinnon 2-5 stop + 6-9 stop VND Mk2
Smallrig Cage + Handle + NPF Battery Adapter etc etc..
Shot in BRAW 6K 12:1 50fps / 25fps

This is a really beautifully produced video! The colours and editing are outstanding, and the timing to the music impeccable! I have a number of Takumar lenses and I am getting into them with my Fuji Mirrorless system (X-S10/X-T3). Your video brings ideas into my head about being creative with editing, which I love doing on FCPX. I will have to get my 1/8Pro Mist out as well. Thanks so much for sharing this video. Have a great Christmas too!

Thats quality, I have an Ursa12k and the Takumar 28mm, 50mm and 135mm but none of them come into focus. How did you get them sharp? The M42 adapter ring can only hold the lenses upside down, so that's probably why it can't focus. The Takumar lenses have a shallower depth of field than the Helios 44-2, for example.

Dude, this was simply outstanding. The best bmpcc 6k pro reel I have seen, really ! How much approximately did each lens cost to you ? On eBay they are very cheap like 80$, I wan't to check you that this is accurate
@joshuadeboervisuals
@joshuadeboervisuals 2 года назад
I bought all of my takumars locally here in Australia most were from a guy that restores them. Average cost per lens was only ~$100 AUD each. I also bought m4 to ef adapters, 82mm step up rings, lense caps and focus gears for all of them putting the price closer to $150 ~ $200 AUD each with all the extras.

@@joshuadeboervisuals Thank you very much. Last quesiton: is the ninja inferno essential to have such a video quality ? I have compared with other video, and yours is actually one of the best !

Love the edit! Have the 28/3.5... which is sharper 35 compared 28? Curious? Wonder how it compares to 35/2? Love the edit!
@joshuadeboervisuals
@joshuadeboervisuals 2 года назад
Thanks! I haven't done a techincal test on it, but I'd say the 35mm f3.5 is marginally sharper, though it's not really that noticeable. I much prefer the 28mm however over the 35mm for it's out of focus areas espicially towards the edges, for only being f3.5 it's pretty good a seperating subjects. The 28mm has more character, so to speak and I find myself using it much more than the 35mm. I too also want to get the 35mm f2 to replace my current 35mm as I just really don't use it.

@@joshuadeboervisuals thanks for feedback 😀 sort of silly minutia but always wondered about the 35(s)...not to nerd out. The edit to sound and visual glitches, reverses makes it so compelling... love it!

Stunning shots Joshua! Do you use those lenses with a simple M42-EF adapter or do they need to be modded to EF mount?
@joshuadeboervisuals
@joshuadeboervisuals 2 года назад
Simple $5 ebay m42 to ef adapter. A reason to love all m42 mount lenses on ef.
@kleeo1991
@kleeo1991 2 года назад
@@joshuadeboervisuals That is awesome, thank you! I was asking because from what I know this doesn't work that way with Canon FD lenses. If you use FD/FDn-EF adapter(instead of modding) there'll be focusing problems(I guess because you extend the distance between lens and sensor)
@erikbrinkman
@erikbrinkman Год назад
Yeah this has to do with Flange distances. FD mounts need a shorter flange distance than EF mounts, so therefore the FD mounts need to be cut 2 millimeters (that is the mod) next to the EF mount itself to focus to infinity. M42 needs a longer flange distance than EF so a simple adapter suffices.

Was the warm cast on the image part of your grading or are the lenses yellowed? Definitely curious.
@joshuadeboervisuals
@joshuadeboervisuals Год назад
Definitely my grade, I do like it on the warmer side. I got these lenses from a local that restores em so they are cleaned and had the whole UV treament to be about as neutral as you can get.

@@joshuadeboervisuals Awesome. That’s what I thought, but my friend wasn’t sure because he found a Super Takumar that’s super yellowed. Thanks.
@joshuadeboervisuals
@joshuadeboervisuals Год назад
@@Bennett.R Pretty common with Takumars it's super easy to fix just leave it under a UV lamp or out in the sun for a day or two and it should start to remove the yellowing from the Thorium coating. I keep a couple though that I just haven't treated just to have an optional look, if you check out my other videos one of my first vintage glass test shoots was with a 55mm f1.8 takumar that had fairly obvious yellowing, still came out really nice.

Most of the video is actually the 50mm SMC, the first 20seconds until the plane shot I believe is the SMC. Anything with close ups and a lot of depth of field.
