@@immanuelfinley4992 lol at these ads. If anyone doesn’t trust their girl to the point they need to “hack” their Instagram, they shouldn’t be in the relationship.
Black Magic 4k was the best review I've seen recently. Thank you. I'm curious about the combination with the canon lens. If I have a chance, I would also look forward to reviewing raw video.
Absolute fantastic to the point video about this camera. Thank you for that. I am looking to step up camera's but the biggest issue for me is that I need good auto focus. As a one man 4 camera event recorder I have to rely on good auto focus capabilities. So far I did not find any (semi)pro camera that has auto focus. I guess it is too hard technically
Auto focus on this camera means you tap the screen on the subject you want to focus on. That's fine with me for most interview shoots. But if you want the focus to track a moving subject, that's 1 feature this camera can include in future updates.
Thank you for your work. 2 questions. Can you use external monitor for manual focus? Also can you use a gimbal, ssd, external v mount battery and gimbal simulteniously?
Interesting looking at this video. why really old videos come up in my feed in may of 2021, no clue. The software has changed so much since then. We now have braw and Gen5 color. Still an awesome camera in 2021. Buy it.
After paying so much more for a movie camera you don't get continuous focus? And the focus keeps hunting like my d3300? I am quite happy with my d3300 and g85. Great video though. Cheers!
thank you Sir for sharing. Very helpful video. No autofocus is a deal-breaker for me. You can't use it with gimbal to track subjects. For still "Videography", it is a good choice, because you can play tap tap on the LCD!
Hey, very good video! How did you get focus on yourself during the sit down interview? This is what I want to use it for but I don't know how to get reliable focus on myself when I can't see the screen, and there's no autofocus
Hi, you talked about the electronic gimbals, but are they suitable even with this kind of non-continuous autofocus ? (In the case of gimbals such as the DJI Ronin M) without wireless followfocus ? Thanks, excellent video btw !
I understand that in cinema production, there is an assistant that just does focusing on the camera. That's why this camera doesn't have continuous AF. Maybe someone with cinema production experience can help share a thought.
I do similar video work as you do. I will be ordering the Pocket 4k in based on this review and others. I have a professional camcorder and an M50, but need to step my game up. I have been worried about the micro four thirds sensor size, especially with low light. Your review and a few others have made me not fear the smaller sensor size. The dual iso set up built into the camera along with the use of speedboosters will help me in this area. Thank you.
@@smileychess I'm good with manual focusing now that I have learned to embrace it. If I were honest, I avoided manual focusing because I thought it was going to be hard. I didn't put in the time to get used to it or to get good at it. I learned about focus distance and even how photo lens makers put guides on their lenses to help with focus distance. Now, it's easy to do and in some cases a must, because autofocus may switch focus when I don't want it to. A follow focus will be helpful, though I have no issues focusing with a hand on the lens. As far as the pocket 4k, I LOVE the image I get from the Pocket. It's a straight quality image! Even with a micro 4/3 sensor, it's a straight up beast of a camera! I honestly need another one with a similar look and color for a better A Cam/B Cam set up than the Pocket and the M50, but I think my next cinema camera will be the Pocket 6k Pro.
@@smileychess Don't forget that native micro 4/3 lenses can be focused (1 time focus) on the Pocket 4k... so if you got the Pocket, your first lens or two could be a native micro 4/3 lens. Depending on your budget, Olympus and Panasonic makes some reasonable micro 4/3 lenses that will get you in the ball park with the focusing button on the Pocket 4k.
First I see the microphones on front, there are huge and seems great, but 04:07 video color is some cold then your own cam. Can you explain? It's about 422, or hdr thing?
I would be all over this camera if it had video autofocus similar to the 5DM4. Running and gunning has become too big a headache without a decent autofocus-
Well, once I understood that the BMPCC4K is a CINEMA camera, no Autofocus makes sense. Cinema crew don't do run and gun. Everything is staged before the shoot. If you are in cinema production and reading this comment, correct me if I am wrong.
@@videolane I work in both industries. I shoot quick run and gun pieces where the subject may be on the move in a documentary type setting. I've also shot films that have been shown theatrically... or at least had a good video run on Netflix and On-Demand. Sometimes those indie films don't have the time, budget, or manpower to have a dedicated operator to just pull focus. Also, I sometimes shoot my indie films in a style that gives the actors more freedom to improvise some of their lines and actions. So having a dedicated automatic follow focus has really changed the game and made my life alot easier on set and in post. I've changed my whole workflow based on this industry change. It's been a game changer.
@@videolane thats true but autofocus is a nice feature to have nonetheless like we see in Canon C200, C300 mark ii and C500, also in Sony FS7 and FS5 mark ii
Hi, would you be kind enough to make a video using just the BMPCC4k and the Voigtlander 10.5mm lens? i think many of us are thinking of buying this lens but there is no actual footage of it, and i can´t even rent it to try it out because i live in Argentina. It would be awesome if you could shoot at 0.95, 1.4 and so on to see the effect of the softness and shallow DOF while filming a person. Thnks so much for the review!
Does this camera have provision for an add-on electronic viewfinder? if not its a miss from me, does it have in-built image stabilization? if not, then its another miss from me, I might consider a GH5 instead which (I think) has these features, hmmm!! I will have to read up on that, liked your test by the way, thanks!!
how do you tap to autofocus? i have to hit the button and it focuses like one out every four tries and always dead center. Not sure if its broke or I don't know how to use it.
@@matthewbeard7225 some lenses have the autofocus motor build in the lens and others rely on a focus motor in the camera. Maybe that is the difference?
How can I use auto focus lens manual focus. For example, I tested Panasonic 12-35 lenses, no keys on the lens for auto-manual focus. and I did not find any funcion in BMPCC 4k the menu auto-manual for focus only touch screen focus area. We make a movie, we dont need a auto focus. Do you have any knowledge about it?
i would like to ask you specially that it has no noise at 3200 iso and i take video at 800 iso with panasonic 14-42 lens with aperture 4 and i have a lot of noise i'm doing something wrong ???
BlackmagicDesign call it the cinema camera. So I don't think movie directors will need facial autofocus. They prefer the manual focus to compose shots the way they want.
The camera is too big when you use the standard base plate that comes with the Ronin. You will have to buy a separate one, with an offset. Google search 'ronin offset baseplate for blackmagic camera'. That baseplate will move your camera more to the left, so it fits the Ronin.
@1901Steini I'm a newbie keen to learn from experts like you... why does it not need these features as a cinema camera and what are the gh5/sony a7iii intended uses?
moviemakers do not use Auto Focus?!??!?! What the hell does that mean? Why don't you stay with analog film like your grand fathers did? Or making black and white silent movies, like in the 20s? LOL... these puritans really kill me...the A7 III have AF, and better sensor, and low light performance... BMPC another crap....
@@lboymusic the a7s is a consumer stills camera. The fact remains that reds, arris, etc do not have such good autofocus for a reason... pros operating on a narrative set do not use auto focus. Auto focus is for run and gun, eng, and maybe documentaries... no professional filmmaker on a narrative set of any caliber uses auto focus... that is fact. And selfies? This is a cinema camera... does the red dragon take good selfies? No. And the fact that you are comparing this to a consumer dslr proves my point...
They don't use AF, because it is not reliable for video, but the AF on Sony cameras, or the dual pixel AF, on Canon camera is, period. If you are an youtuber, or if you want to shoot video of yourself, a selfie LCD is indispensable to frame you right. The truth is that Black Magic couldn't pull it off... but Panasonic AF is also bad... there are some brands that have technology to do it, while other don't, that's simple...by the way what is the difference between a cinema camera and a consumer camera, that I can't really understand?!?!? Are you telling me that you cannot do cinema with the Sony A7s for instances? I alwyas thought cinema cameras were better... if that is not the case, why buying a worst camera?!?!
Yes movie makers don't use AF. Ask Spielberg why he doesn't use autofocus and selfies in his movies.... Do you think it's because he doesn't have access to Sony cameras ? And why RED and Alexa also don't EVEN have it for that price ! What a shame ! ;-). They're probably stupid ? Sony cameras have probably the best AF nowadays that's right... BUT with manual focus you decide what you would like to focus on your image and also you can choose to do defocus to create artistic images and atmosphere. You can also take the TIME you want in a movie scene to focus. Remember : not everything is focused in a movie !!! This camera is NOT for youtubers, or selfie makers ! Buy Sony for that use, it can be a good choice. And you can also do manual with Sony, it's true ! I also know people that hate Sony colors and their menus...Also don't buy a Rolls Royce if you need a 4x4 to go to your house etc...Also ask why some Sony A7 users actually sell their camera and go for BMPCC4K. Are they all crazy ? Why did I sell my GH5 for a BMPCC 4K ? Am I crazy ? It wasn't an easy decision. The perfect camera doesn't exist : everyone decides based on what he needs.
