Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K - Slow Motion Footage

While in Florence for a wedding I decided to take out the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K (BMPCC6K) and test out the 60fps slow motion footage some more.

OVERVIEW:
I got flown out to Florence, Italy to film a wedding and with a couple of days spare I decided to film a little RU-vid video with my new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K.
I took to the Instagram explore page to find someone and thankfully Bella Farragamo responded and let me film her with the BMPCC6K. I wanted to do some more slow motion tests with a different compression ratio than I have used previous to see how much difference it makes shooting at 8:1 rather than 12:1. This is the footage I shot after it's been edited and graded in Premiere.
POST PRODUCTION GRADING:
I graded this video with Lumetri in Premiere. Using the Autokroma plugin for Premiere it allows you to import and edit Blackmagic RAW natively. I simply ticked "highlight recovery" and "apply LUT" which applies the default Blackmagic LUT you use to view in camera. From there I changed the colour space to REC709 and applied a LUT from my pack below. A few tweaks to white balance and exposure adjusts and it was good to go!

Hi Sam! Two questions - was this shot on a gimbal or handheld? I’m guessing a gimbal - if so how are you pulling focus? And second - how do you cope with the battery life? Found a workable solution that you’re happy with?

Matt Rozier I have the gear listed in the description but it was the Devin Graham Glidecam. I actually don’t pull focus - I either would stop down and everything would be in focus for the wider shots, stay the same distance from the subject or push into focus ☺️

Chrono Cross they actually haven’t popped up too much. I’m shooting to Cfast now too so that may have helped!

it brings up an interesting idea, the detail is so high, that on lesser resolution displays im getting the line chatter you get when panning photos. So for deliverables (not for showing camera ability on youtube) the client will only see the chatter, so would master in 4k? or has this happened yet with such new gear?

beautiful footage man, your use of color is so on point. I think in an earlier video you used the atlas anamorphics? How'd you like using them? Were there any quirks to them and did you notice any IR pollution. Thanks again, just bought your luts!

I’d love to have time with the 32mm and dial it in for my style on a shoot. Get it balanced up on a glidecam. But yeah I definitely don’t normally stop down too much but found the Atlas really poor (especially looking back at footage) when wide open which I’m not used to

Question. I thought this camera could do 120 frames per second with a crop , but I can’t find 120p anywhere in the camera! Do you know if it’s true you can shoot at 120 and if so , where is it?

Great video, especially watching this on 4k monitor... What I like about them BM cameras they are not sharp, but detailed. By the way, when looking for models, how do you handle business side of these clips? Do model pose in exchange for portrait video or are they paying you for it? I mean those who you yourself reach out to in order to film them.

film mode but turn on and off the extended lut in camera to see what it will potentially look like once graded (-: i've got both free and paid luts in the description that I made and use

Is the lutpack usable in davinci? Can you explain the best way to use.. First convert to rec709 and then applying the lut ?

It will work in any software that allows .cube ☺️ davinci will but I’m pretty sure you have to put it in the appdata folder. I’ll be making a tutorial of the workflow when I get back to Australia

Do you do anything in post with the footage as far as interpreting any frame rates? Converting it to 23.976 or do you just slow down the speed to 30% or so?

Quantay Peoples whatever makes correct exposure. I don’t use ND so compensate with high shutter

Commit to tutorials-- you can learn! Some of the facets that make this video look nice are: golden hour lighting (right before sunset), good dynamic range (13 stops), good composition, high resolution, pleasing color science from the camera, sharp lenses and nice color grading.
