Two magnificent instruments. Mr. Blackmore is the true master of rhythm and lead. Outrageous musical composition. Yngwie may have his style and I have seen him many times, but I know Mr. Blackmore is the King of guitar.
Great sound from both guitars but leaning towards Ritchie's Strat probably due to my allegiance for the master. Love the Fender large head stock. All the Strats should have this signature version.
As Monty said .. “Tell that ti’kids ti’day .. they won’t believe yi .. “No … they won’t” Blackmore is the most important guitarist in hard rock . When he’s gone or .. “since (he’s) been gone ….” they will realise.
The Blackmore guitar sounds like Blackmore and the Yngwie guitar sounds like Yngwie .Excellent playing by the guitarist and excellent job in making the guitars by Fender.
I've tried both and prefer the Blackmore one. It fits my style a little better than the Malmsteen one. It has a little bit chunkier neck which fits the hand prefectly. The scalloping is made with intelligence, it gets more and more scalloped when you go to the high frets. I also prefer a three way switch. I kind of miss the point of the middle pickup when it comes to rock music. I also like the sound of it better. It has more balls and mid response The Malmsteen sounds great, but it has a bit too much highs for my taste. The Blackmore one is also almost half the price.
Well, I am 54 yo, and half of my time passed on stage and in rehearsal rooms. Usually we loose the treble in hearing, the more we get older, yet, to my ears, the Blackmore edition has a fullier sound, more bite, maybe a little more trebles. They are both good, but for a Blackmore kind of sound You have to choose, yes, the Blackmore edition. IMHO....... Oh, and I used a very good pair of headphones to better compare them. Thanks a lot for the video!! It's always a pleasure to listen someone playing (very well!) the old way!👍
littlebritain64 it’s the bass and the mids that give the illusion of more trebles because you cannot hear the higher pitch when a sound is in the lower hz level you have the filling that is fuller and has more volume. On the other malmsteen’s guitar’s tone is very high pitched and makes it sound thinner. By the way I wish you reach 100 years old and still be able to play guitar 🤘🏻
Awesome showcase of two killer guitars! I prefer the RB because it sounds closer to him in the midrange and for me that’s vital! The tone of your BFX is spot on sounds amazing
Rosewood maybe makes sounds dark , maple not so much and ebony (on les paul give the classic heavy sound) then how can be sound a fender stratocaster 70´s with Ebony frets maybe really heavy !!!
I'm trying to figure out how the fretboard material makes any noticeable difference in tone to anyone other than Eric Johnson? The Quarter Pound single coils vs. a stacked humbucker is the determining factor here.
the Blackmore sounds better the notes bloom a lil more but both sound amazing and I'd love to have either,, I'm more of a Blackmore fan as far as the music but man these are two great guitars for two of the greatest strat players of all time I'd love to see Blackmore and Yngwie jam
Just make sure that: - You have enough springs in the back - The nut is cut correctly (at least wide enough) for the strings and has some graphite type of lube - If you use string trees on the headstock, make sure that they're smooth and the strings don't bind and if they're the roller type, make sure they actually roll freely. - If you have new strings, stretch the bejesus out of them otherwise you'll have all sorts of issues. - Wrap the strings properly around the tuning post and give it an overlap and at least 6 full turns. - ...and most importantly, if you push on the bar make sure you also pull it back slightly past the normal pitch.
Great comparison man....! Both are my fave guitar hero. I prefer Yngwie's guitar for more punch and treble bite...! :) But blackmore's strat also great. I think I want both
Well, it doesn't sound better here. That's for sure. It feels like butter around the neck too. It's just a superior quality weapon. The two players are one, musical, and the other trying to be, but lost in the flash. As technically proficient as he can be.
Larry Toering malmsteen can be very music, it's just he doesn't go that path 98% of the time. But he can certainly do it, about the tone some minor adjustments to the amp would make the YJM sound the way it's supposed to. It's just his signature sound that made him famous. I like the strat, I'm sure I can get great tone on my setup, I'll go for the YJM looks. Great too. I'm not a big fan of unique but I do recognize his skills, has great tone and can play the shut of a strat. Thanks for the input
The malmsteen is awesome with distorted tones and a boost pedal. Clean it gets pretty bland and be prepared to turn on clean boost to get any kind of volume out of the hs3’s even though they Sound great distorted.
They're both scalloped, they're both awesome and damn those huge headstocks are lovely.. Well it's an easy pick for me: can't afford none don't want none lol
@@deadshot4245 yes because for the riffs on the Blackmore model is not deep like Malmsteen model ( Yngwie is more for full shred mode ) and the Ritchie you can play more styles !
As someone who owns an all mahogany gibson les paul with emg 81 85s, if i was purchasing one of these it would definitely be the yngwie strat because i already own a guitar thats even much more dark sounding than the blackmoore guitar
Awesome, fun comparison video. I was thinking they were sounding pretty even, and then (for me) the Yngwie guitar blew away the Blackmore when its lead came in.
They both sounded great, but I liked the overall sound of the Yngwie Guitar. Maybe because it seemed to have better clarity and definition of the notes to me. :-)
I like the way they both sound. similar but different. Actually the Malmsteen is a little brighter and just a hint stronger while the Blackmore is a little darker and maybe a tad fatter. Both are good. I didn't know Richie has a model. I must go play them both now...thanks!
Damn it i don't know which one is better.I love both,i've tried both and they are both awesome.Same goes with the artists.Yngwie has amazing techniques and skills and can play propably bit better than Ritchie but Ritchie is my favourite since i was a little kid...Fuck i can't decide...I'll buy both
great video!! u got it down!..wow...I love both guitars,,,but, I'm voting for the Blackmore...plus it looks cool with the black pups, knobs and rosewood.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Malmsteen Strat uses Dimarzio HS4 pickup which is no single coil (I have one on my Highway Stratocaster), it has 4 wires instead of 2. Anyway, great skill, keep shredding! :)
I love them, both .. I was sure that the Malmsteen's Strat would be so savage in comparison to the Blackmore's .. but now I am also impressed with Blackmore's Strat, it sounds beyond expectations , as good as Malmsteen's but different ...
I owned them. The Yngwie sounded more traditional. The body was extremely light and the pickups were bright with medium output. Lightest guitar I’ve ever owned. Mine had the older HS-3 pickups. The Blackmore pickups are copies of a late ‘70s overwound pickup and sounds more compressed and had more midrange. It got an ‘80s Blackmore Sound which I didn’t like. The Yngwie got more of a ‘74-‘77 Blackmore tone which I did like. I think both had three way switches (or I put one on the Yngwie). They both played well (if you like scalloped fretboards), with the Yngwie model having the deeper scallop. There’s things I liked about both (doesn’t like the “vintage white” of Yngwie’s guitar). It looked yellow. Ultimately I liked the Yngwie model due to its light body and gloss maple neck. But thought the Blackmore was a better looking guitar (for what that’s worth). My one regret is that I didn’t keep the Blackmore guitar and have DAWK mod it before he died. I was THIS close. Oh well. Btw, Kinman has a “Blackmore” model pickup called The Scoop. It’s a VERY low output, early ‘70s style pickup. It sounds really good. Some might be surprised how low the output is. It does not want to sustain unless you’re cranked up a bit, or have some preamp help. Sounds killer though.
The real question is which one do you like playing better? They both sound great. It seemed to me you had an easier time with the Malmsteen. The notes were a little cleaner and you got in more trills.
I personally like Blackmore's signature guitar better because it has a balanced sound across all 6 strings. Nothing against Malmsteen's strat which definitely has a sharper, brighter tone but Blackmore's strat tone is smoother with more mid-range so it's easier to the ears
hi there I wanted to ask you: If I were to buy one or the other, how to they compare, if they cost the same? For example, can you divebomb with the blackmore as well as with the YJM without getting out of tune? Are they the same built quality? ETc. if you could help me... I kow they are made in different places etc... but are they different in built quality and sound quality? or just a matter of taste? may be better nut in the YJM?
I WAS TO BUSY LISTENING AND WATCHING YOUR AWESOM PLAYING TO MAKE COMPARISONS HAHA. I'VE HAD BOTH, ONLY ONE OF THE RB AND PROBABLY 10 OF THE MALMSTEENS STILL HAVE 2 THE DUNCAN AND THE DIMARZZIO VERSIONS AND I DO PREFER THE YNGWIE STRAT. ACTUALLY IT'S ONE OF THE BEST STRATS MADE IN GENERAL IN MY OPINION. IT'S THE STRATIEST SOUNDING STRAT EVER PRODUCED, YOU WOULDN'T THINK THAT BUT SOMETHING ABOUT THE GIANT FRETS AND BRASS NUT + THE SCREW INSERTS AT THE NECK JOINT INSTEAD OF WOOD SCREWS STRAIGHT INTO WOOOD ALL LEND THEMSELVES TO A VERY TWANGY SOUND. I USE THAT GUITAR MORE FOR BLUES ROCK THAN ANYTHING ELSE AND OF COURS RIPPING SOME OLD SCHOOL YNGWIE SONGS. GREAT VIDEO.
Awesome job.. It was Blackmore that got me into playing guitar in 1967. I was right up there with the best at one time but the Military got in my way. I still have my equipment but just lost all interest in playing, that's a shame. I have been flying Helicopters for 37 years and hung up my flight suit 6 months ago.. Too dangerous of a profession... Again you have RB's style down pat I like your tremelo work awesome bro
the main difference for me is the price. 😂😂 the blackmore is half of what the YJM costs. if i wanted different pickups i could retrofit them. a good scallop job is way more costly to have a decent luthier do it. the blackmore strat isn't scalloped all the way through though, i believe the first 5 frets on the low e, a and d string are regular, on the g, b and high e they scalloped all the way through.
How does anyone like the blackmore strat? This player's style is much much more conducive to the YJM guitar. Everything jumps out better for him. Interesting point that I would never get the YJM because my style isn't appropriate. But I do appreciate that Yngwie has really put thought and time into his tone, and this guitar makes it happen.
You need to listen to more yngwie. He is a amazing artist. Listen to hold on, dreaming (tell me), blue, wield my sword. Yeah there is always a element for shred but hw has some AMAZING songwriting. Probably one of my favorite artists ever
You played these two beautiful Strats in the best way possible...great rendition of the two Styles...killer playing...great man🎸🎸🎸❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍and about the guitars:l love both of them... Cheers from Italy 🎸🎸🎸👍👍👍
Merci pour ce début de journée en punch devant mon premier café, tu as mis du soleil dedans. Deux merveilleuses guitares et dans tes mains, ben, comment dire, ça devient juste magique :-) Bon weekend Nono :-)
they both sounded great, I like to use the middle pickup combinations though so I would go with the Malmsteen model. Also anyone who says Malmsteen sucks etc. has no clue about guitar playing. You don't have to like him but saying he sucks is just ridiculous. They are both great players.
Would the Richie Blackmore still be good for Yngwie style music. I was thinking of getting the Yngwie Malmsteen but I owned it before and it sounded more like his later tone I'm going for his early tone.
the mim gear has gotten real good but the malmsteen model i had in my hands was better. is the blackmoore still a 3 bolt neck? any how im going with the Yngwie model
this is fantastic - great playing! The Malmsteen sounds like it has hotter pickups so I'd lean towards the Blackmore strat but then I'd miss the neck/middle position... hmm.
I made before some years a Harley Benton Malmsteen replica with scalloped neck, pickups, brass nut but i had to sell it. Ι found two new old stock strats: Blackmore (2009 model) at 1.000€ and a regular MIM strat(2009 model) with rosewood fretboard at 500€ The question is: Blackmore strat worth the extra money?
The biggest difference between both guitars is that the middle pick-up is missing in the Blackmore Strat (he replaced it with a dummy and all the signature guitars have this dummy as well). I'm also quite sure that Blackmore's amps were different to Malmsteen's. My impression is that Blackmore's Strat is less mid-rangy (which people hear in the "twang" of a typical Fender Strat). This makes it superior sounding when there's a Hammond organ. The band context also plays a huge role when you adjust your sound. The overdrive behaviour of amps and pedals also change if you deliver less mid-range. But as shown in this video, the player will make a tremendous difference as well and if amp settings are the same both guitars will still sound very similar.
If I were playing lead I would likely choose the Yngwie model, and get used to scalloped frets, because it has a "brighter tone". If I were Rhythm I would choose the Blackmore with it's fuller, "RiTcher" tone. Style of music would matter as well. If it were blues, jazz, or a vast array of styles with cleaner guitar tones, the Yngwie model would probably start to sound more like a mix of a Tele and a Strat and have more twang whereas the Blackmore has more bottom frequency and would sound far less "tinny". Heavy Metal I would likely lean toward the Yngwie models, though I could see each having it's own use as rhythm or lead. Not saying that's what they are best for, knowing full well that is a matter of opinion, I'm saying for ME that's what I would either use or if someone asked me which I thought sounded best, having just seen this very video only moments prior, would tell that person those were what I thought were best depending on what he/she played!
Very few truly fervent tech heads and Ritchie’s die-hard devotees know that inside every Ritichie’s guitar there was a magical “secret box" that drastically changed his overall guitar tone - that’s been disclosed on some official R.B. guitar forum by his tech., who actually built them for Ritchie. I believe that he slightly modified them as time went on (and I hope he still makes them now) but at the time he was charging about $300 for each and only needed to know what period in Ritchie’s career (meaning which album) a prospective buyer was interested in, as each box represented a different guitar tone. So, those, who buy Ritchies “signature” guitar and think that he plays the same thing himself are in for a disappointing surprise. Pretty much every aspect of his guitars was modified and nothing was “standard”, starting with mix-n-match multi-caliber Italian strings. Just thought I’d share. :)
As far as I know the "secret box" does not come in multiple different versions. And Dawk didn't ask me what era's tone I was interested in back when I ordered mine years ago. You might also be interested in the fact that Blackmore never used the SSL-4's, but Schecter F500T's. The Schecter pickups are much closer to regular singlecoils in terms of output (Mark Knopfler used them too). Instead, they offer a higher harmonic range due to the quarterpounder magnets. As for the strings, he did that stuff way back when hard rock still wasn't quiet mainstream. Blackmore's hybrid set (RB77 by Picato) has been available for many years now.
Have any link? I'm still using the MTC dark installed in my 1974 "backup" Strat from Ritchie (from the final Deep Purple tour-from what I was told) I'd like to find another for my other guitars.
