I wish Jeff would make some easy-to-understand videos that explain specific connectivity scenarios using specific devices so that DP's and Gaffers who've never used wireless lighting controls could grasp the cost and complexity involved in a typical setup that could be used on a small corporate/commercial shoot with maybe 10 fixtures. Back in 2020 when I was considering this I ended up just getting a DMX-it since I could just pull it out of the box and start using it.
Right, and for some the next step is an all in one unit like a Gaffers Control or a Control One. If you go with Blackout you need to pair it with a transmitter. An AKS is an example of a robust transmitter that can handle one universe. Lumen Radio also offers transmitters, such as the Stardust that can handle up to 8 universes. Jeff does have some explainer videos, but they move along at quite a clip🙂

Thanks! Haven't looked at the BlackoutApp channel in a long time and I can see now you've already got what I'm looking for. Looks like the Luna + Blackout is the way to go for easy entry. Need to get an iPad first though. How old of an iPad will be fast enough to run Blackout for a simple 5-10 fixture setup?
@@TimTylerCine I think anything after 2019 would be fine with that, but if you wanted to do anything like effects, I'd get any new iPad - the processors are exponentially better than anything old
Doesn't matter. This software is basically a Chinese knockoff version of ETC Eos software. Don't buy it. Just get an Eos dongle for the same price and use your laptop instead.
