There are two shutdown concepts in this M/V. The first (the visuals) is that they are shutting down Blackpink V1, hence the references to past music vids, the alley filled with past titles, etc.. They then enter an elevator, go up, and exit into a new area with no past references signifying BP V2 is starting with Born Pink. The second (the lyrics) is a reference to all of the haters who cannot accept that BP is currently the world's largest and most successful girlgroup today, and possibly ever as well as all of the girlgroup "wannabe's" who are trying to replicate their success. Jisoo's second rap verse explicitly states here's your instruction sheet but it doesn't come cheap, referring to 5+yrs training plus 6yrs post debut. Regarding ambassadorships, they are global ambassadors for several of the world's most elite clothing, jewelry, as cosmetic lines. And as said in the song "when we pull up you know it's a shut down", and as others have said, it's chaos everywhere they go. Shut Down is basically a big slap for other k-pop groups that tried to put them down but also trying way too hard TO BE them, at the same time. the first lyrics says "its not a comeback since we never left" it refers to their 2 years long hiatus but they still managed to top the charts, breaking records left n right etc. in the first rap part of the girl in the bathtub says: "bunch of wannabes that wannabe me" it refers to the new kpop groups who are trying so hard to be them but apparently they cant. these are only two things i could explain about the song, there are more, deeper meaning than what ive written above.

Shut Down is like a statement of Blackpink now it's a new era for them, it is kind of reminding us that we were born for the new era because in this MV there are clips of their old songs since they debuted in 2016 for new listeners may be quite lost. To understand what is happening to new listener it needs to rewind their path to success until now. A lot of symbolism in this song. They have been through so many difficulties and obstacles, especially from stereotypes in a girl group. It's why very inspiring if we know the level of success they are now. It's also captured in their Netflix documentary of Blackpink (Blackpink : Light Up The Sky) and interview with Rolling Stones Magazine (they are 3rd girl group interviewed by this magazine since Spice Girls and Destiny's Child). This album is showcase Blackpink capability to answer the doubt about their capability and what Blackpink only can do. In this album, there is one ballad song that is really emotional through a vulnerable voice, they want to show that Blackpink also can do a ballad song, not just a dance or hype song (track 6th Happiest Girl). However, with success comes haters. So this not only shuts the doors on the old Blackpink and introduces the new improved, badass Blackpink who already established new records, it strongly shuts down the haters. In my POV: this video means that they are embarking in a new journey that’s why the elevator is going up and they are shutting down the past. I think they will be doing a lot of mature songs in the future because they’re grown women already. Unlike their previous songs they were always careful for their young audience.
They have one-take dance videos of each of the dances their songs, and yes they are often copied/replicated in videos :) Many will say they don't have the most technical dances, which is true, but they also make it look ALOT easier then it is. They also use back-tracks while singing live, instead of lip-syncing so they stick to dances they can do while performing.

IMO Shut down has a few meanings. 1. Shut down as in shutting down the haters and keeping their mouth shut with this comeback since they’ve been criticising them for a lot of things. 2. Shutting down the shutters as in leaving their past behind as you can see how they were in the older music video sets and then shutting the shutters to signify them leaving their past achievements behind and moving forward. 3. Shut down as in shutting down other businesses. It could mean that every time they make a comeback, everyone would pay attention to them and basically other artists don’t have a chance against them and they would run out business. As others have mentioned, the meaning of SHUT DOWN is twofold. They are "Shutting Down" their haters and they are also closing the doors on their previous videos (Shutting them Down) to level up to the next version of BLACKPINK. At the end of the video they exit the elevator into a new hallway filled with doors, representing their new music.

Yepp! Most of the time it’s armies pretending to be Blinks to make blink toxic. Honestly tho I’ve never run into any real blinks that are as toxic as armies! as many have said it's both shutting down the haters and people trying to recreate their success, you'll see people in the comments saying it's new groups coming out that are doing so, and while i get where they're coming from, i think they don't understand that kpop groups don't usually have much control at all over how they get marketed, what they wear, the songs they sings and so on especially earlier in their careers, so no, it's not the groups themselves but the companies. (when they show up they take over and shut everybody else down, also their slogan since debut has beeen blackpink in your area and it's a nice play on that in this video as the set where they filmed some of the scenes is an alley where every sign and shop has references to past blackpink songs, it's quite literally become blackpink's area and in the chorus they sing 'when we pull up it's a shut down, take down your signs and lock the doors') And also shutting down their own previous era as they're starting a new chapter and going even higher (you caught the UP in the elevator scene but also the white sets they closed the shutters on were all references to some of their past mvs). Yes the girls are all global ambassadors and muses to some of the world's most important fashion brands, from clothing to jewelry and cosmetics different for every girl, hence the 'see all these clothes we don't buy, we request them' which is a flex but also quite true as they really have brands fighting to work with them and wathever they're seen wearing ends up being sold out. But Jennie has stated she's taken part in writing quite a few of their songs, jisoo also has credits and Rosé took heavy part in her own solo. I love that they are attempting new music with this comeback. It appears to be an evolution of bp 2.0 (more mature & savage). As they closed the garage door, they left behind a number of scenarios from their earlier music videos, along with comparable props they had previously used (the globes, umbrellas, water, bathtubs, and chandeliers), all of which had either become pink or black. I think it symbolizes their hegemony over the world and their darker side, which the lyrics (slay as usual) and tune perfectly match. With or without a fancy set up, the white and plain background simply showed how strong their aura and stage presence are.

The problem with the fans is that this years 3rd and 4th generation of kpop are more "visual" and all over the internet so there are a lot of fans who are very young and theu really dont know how to control themselvs so they attack eachother a lot, specially with big groups like BTS and BlackPink, old fans like me which i started in 2009 are more chills we like and support many groups.
Yep. Some of the really immature fans seem to have a sports team mentality. If they like another group, they see Blackpink as a competitor and rival. As long as Blackpink is on top, the fans of other groups feel like Blackpink is blocking their favorite group (like a championship team that keeps winning championships and the fans of other teams want the championship team to fail, so that their favorite team will have a chance). Since popularity = winning in Kpop, the immature fans of some other groups constantly try to make the winning group less popular by attacking and making up negative stories...and often just tell lies on top of lies without any shame. Those types of fans are actually a small percentage and should usually just be ignored. But they are noisy and obnoxious (just like some sports fans).
To be precise they debut in 2016 with 2 songs then had some songs in 2018 and 2019 and a world tour as well and then after one year's break in 2020 they released their FIRST FULL LENGHT ALBUM after that for 2 years they were doing solo projects and stuff and in 2022 they finally came back with another album...as to why I'm telling you all this is becoz other kpop groups never take such long breaks, they keep releasing songs very frequently....... but as blackpink became huge internationally as well and people needed a reason to through shade so they got hate on late comebacks...so this song is kinda like a slap for haters who questioned their long hiatus as they are still toping the charts even after 2 years break

I agree with you totally, there are so many things going on in their videos. Probably have to watch it at least 3 times to get the total feel. Visually you want to see everything, but if it is your first time and lyrics are on, you miss stuff, this video has many easter egg type items for Blackpink fans. Audio wise, there are instrumentation, vocals and layers that you will miss with one hearing only. I do video production... If you think the videos have a movie quality to them, that is because they use movie studio equipment, Arri Alexa specifically (ie used to shoot Bladerunner 2049), usually with 3 camera views: One on a Scorpio actuated jib, one rail mounted, one free roaming hand held (each camera body only is upwards of US$30K). I would suggest watching/reacting to the Ultimate Blackpink Guide 2022 to understand who Blackpink really is and their backgrounds, or Netflix movie documentary "Light Up the Sky" about them.
