When they debuted in 2016, YG only announced what the members' specialties are, as follows: Jisoo: Vocals Jennie: Vocals / Rap Rosé: Vocals Lisa: Rap / Dance I've been following Blackpink from the very beginning (and actually even before they debuted). YG never ranked Lisa below Jennie. YG never announced that Jennie is "main" and Lisa is "lead". YG just calls them the rappers of the group. But some Kpop fans always try to rank idols according to "main" and "lead" positions for some reason. It's just a weird Kpop fan culture thing. When they first debuted, there were some fans going all over social media (just as they still do) telling everyone what they thought the position rankings in Blackpink were. They were just guessing and making it up. But then lots of fans mistakenly thought that it was officially from YG. It never was. Since then, it's really still only fans who keep going around talking about "main" and "lead" rankings. Then the usual Kpop gossip/news channels started copying what fans were saying on social media and because the Kpop gossip/news channels were saying it, it seemed even more official. But it's not official. Even now, YG's official websites, official press releases and official promotional materials literally say NOTHING about any main or lead rankings. In the Netflix documentary, when Teddy was asked to talk about each member of the group, people should recall that he said nothing at all about any "main" or "lead" positions. I don't even like pointing out the facts because some fans are so invested in the whole "main" and "lead" position ranking mythology that they get angry when you tell them that it's fake. I wouldn't even care, but unfortunately the fake rankings are often used against Lisa and Jisoo. Whenever Lisa shines with a rap, Jennie's fans start complaining about the "main rapper" not getting enough raps. They should pay attention to what YG actually said about the member's specialties (Jennie: Vocals / Rap) instead of obsessing over the fake "main" and "lead" rankings that were made up by fans.
