2021 oh yeah, he was moving like he was on ice - he was amazing to watch, all 3 were fun, though his technical foot work, wow!! Congratulations Simon!! whoo hoo ~ from across the pond, in fact from New England. Massachusetts. 👍🏾Sure wish we had this here.💖
Omg! I wish I could do the moves all over again but this 60yr old lady can only watch with pride that younger generation love n.s. too, may it continue hope it never fades away! The best music ever!! BUT the old school will always be the best for me.😍
This is how it is remembered, head up, shoulders back, it is all in the glide, looking as if it is no effort, not everyone has it! Simon without a doubt!
People having fun.....What's not to like? Thank you. Worked with a man for 3 years in a care home ( he is Head Chef) who was there 40 years ago, told me some stories , like walking to the Blackpool Tower absolutely drenched in Brut! Lol, he still goes to a Northern Soul Night on Bournemouth Pier in the Autumn....I consider him a very lucky find, and my friend , Peter.
I find it amazing, only the eccentic British could hunt and find mostly non hit, rare records, from all over the world, doomed to obscurity, then folks coming along to hear em and dancing the way they do to em. And after 50 years plus. You aint gotta be a brill dancer, I have 2 wonderful left feet lol come join us, events all over the country. Ignore the trolls on here, they creep out of sewers to destroy, how sad is that...great video xxx
All music is allowed to us by those who issue the licences; it's why pirate radio ships were sunk by the Navy. The original Northern scene was unsanctioned not backed by merch, no alcohol was sold at venues, which took place usually in the wee small hours. It had to be banned. It is only now that it is fully backed and sanctioned, allowing huge sums of money to be made from it that we are allowed to re-enjoy it.
@fifthof no it was more mod style first further North the baggy look came in early to mid 70s with some guys a long with vests too! I was one of them proud to say.
Mìne too I reckon Steve Hinds sure has a Northern Soul. It's certainly pulsing through his veins with his epic dance moves & energy to match. All the while he's looking ultra cool & confident.
Been on the Northern Soul Scene since around 1974. These Dancers do not represent how we danced back in the day but it must be how they dance now. I'm a bit embarrassed to say the least and glad I bowed out gracefully many years ago.
Started watching northern soul in lockdown.my cousin used to go with her boyfriend.to all nighters.weekenders.etc.my sis also loved northern soul.and her mate.they had all records.iwas too young.only 14
Chanced upon this video and glad I did. It has a mesmeric , simple , pulsating quality that goes with the music, found it captivating and I am not a big dance fan. Also loved the way that the dancers were so supportive and friendly to eachother.
I see theres lots of critics thats ok we love our dancing and N.Soul venues were there is never any trouble and all the people get on well together ,let me tell you its a lot harder and skilled than it looks the videos are very miss leading much better to see if your there.
I used to go to regular Northern Soul nights at Crackers in Waldorf St, Central London back in the 1970s. They were held on a week day back then, rather than weekends.
@@captsmith1912 Very serious, Jill was told I was near to death, twice. I had a blood clot in my large intestine of which most had to be removed. The operation went well, however, a faulty NG tube was used while in theatre. This was meant to remove fluid from my stomach but because of the faulty devise the 3 litres of fluid ended up in my lungs which caused pneumonia, then sepsis, twice. Then another 2 weeks in hospital with a blood clot on my lungs. My local GP suggested I don't go out as I'm prone to infections & is concerned I don't get sepsis again. I'm now glad I'm alive as at one time I WANTED to die. I've got used to the Stoma bag now. Serious, I started feeling ill & within hours I had been operated on to save my life. I'M STILL HERE, LOL, but I've now got a different outlook on life, for the better ;-)
378.000+ viewers cant be wrong. The singers will fade and die but the music lingers forever. Imagine a "smack mi bitch up" piece of rap being played in 50 years from now. But Northern soul will still be heard long after its current followers are long gone. My 22 year old Son knew every word of the 3 before 8 when he was 10. KTF
SUPERB i hate this old body no more all night dancing😢 I used to LIVE for NS👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Get Dobie Grey On! KEEP THE MUSIC ALIVE all you beautiful people! ✊🏻
A bloke got covered in coal dust while unloading from a barge he was a champion clog dancer he did a little dance to get dust off him , some London pearly kings and queens was walking past on the canal and said look at that black guy dance they said where did he come from was it the pier over there ,they went back to London and told a guy called David Godin he said I have been there it's up north lets call it northern soul then Dave started selling gramaphone records
WHERE R U LEVINE AND THE MECCA? STILL IN MY MIND NOW N ALWAYS AS IS WIGAN CANNOCK LEICESTER ALL DAYERS YATE AND ETC ETC AND THE FRIENDS THAT WERE SOMEHOW THE SAME AS ME AND MY BROTHERS SISTERS AND FAMILY
karikrome hi I’m a total fan of Northern soul. I love the music and the dancing is just brilliant. Check out these lovely ladies. There two young woman who adore this stuff and it shows in their dancing. I think their wonderful. “ “passion in their veins” is what they call themselves. 👋
The guy with the wristbands is bang on digging the chick with the long hair too the way she claps out the beat class too all the numpty haters im a rockabilly bopper but can dance northern soul it aint easy ya gotta have rhythm in yer soul and feet these kats n kittens got IT in spades 😎😎
They ain't a patch on the original dancers back in early 70s and some great dancers from 80s if you think these lot are any good then find proper footage from the smaller clubs over the years , not the casino as they tuned all the lights on and you was left with folks that thought they was good but wasn't, the real dancers where all in mrms I know as I was there , these lot have stolen northern soul from us and made it a laughing stock
@@Genghis-Khan121 i never said they were better than the originals i wouldnt be that stupid so please dont put words in my mouth i merely meant from what ive seen that they seem to be enjoying themselves i have seen much better from old wigan casino footage no offence was meant its gd that your passionate about your music as i am about rockabilly i just appriciate people that can dance
@@mikemeehan96 no you got me wrong mate I didn't mean what it sounded like my fault , I just don't like these fancy dress events , I moved on years ago as northern soul music kept evolving I go to totally different events to these there are some very good dancers over the years and still are am more on the rare side and crossover with underplayed oldies as well a good mix , totally different to these oldies events like this one , btw I was in the casino the night the film crew came it was terrible no one wanted them there and most tried to fit in to mrms out the way of the camera's in those days we didn't want any attention we wanted to keep it u derground or it would end up commercial exactly what it's become and would end up full of plonkers in big trousers fancy dress trying to emulate what was in fashion back in early 70s that's not what n soul music is about we dress in normal today's fashion now still dance still enjoy the music but don't look like twats that know nothing about black 60s dance music , still nothing we can do about them , I won't go to such events but live and let live unfortunately lol lol
@@Genghis-Khan121 fair enough its the same on the rockabilly scene all the gear no idea i can tell your pasionate about your music and thats a beautifull thing on our scene we call them the fluffys take care brother didnt know they were weekend warriors apologies
The Brits were always supporters of African American Soul Music. They knew who The Funk Brothers were before any of us did. Sadly enough they were overlooked by the other musical genres of the 1960's. If you can check out ILMJXXX's Channel he has some amazing obscure performances.
Most dance shoes have leather bottoms. The shoes we do the Carolina Shag in do. It allows us to move our feet smoothly, without a lot if upper body movement (not counting your arms)
Was there but unless you are at the front nobody’s sees you dancing so my opinion.... a lot better dancers present but not got the chance to show there stuff. But Simon deserved a final place
I was thinking that too. Not sure but Techno Shuffle seem to have evolved out of somewhere, and Northern Soul was around way before Techno, and there are similarities in movement, so maybe... BTW, love techno shuffle too!
I've always thought the dance moves were a mix between shuffling and jumpstyle.i adore northern soul and love watching the dances BUT lately I've been learning shuffle great exercise Cant believe the comment by someone never seeing this before. One of my favorite films is the story of northern soul.💖💖
