Wednesday 5th June 2024 was the inaugural day of the Alexander Dennis Enviro 400EV demonstrator at Blackpool Transport.
This fully electric bus demonstrates the future of buses in Blackpool and on the Fylde Coast and a fleet of these buses is due in September 2025.
It spent the whole of Wednesday 5th June 2024 on line 14 and two days of roadshows were, at the eleventh hour, postponed and AD24BEV will continue to run in servce on Thursday 6th June 2024 where customers will, no doubt, be delighted again to discover that there is no charge to try out the new bus.
We rode on the first journey boarding at Trunnah Church at 05:24 travelling to Fleetwood then back to Blackpool and a return to Trunnah Church.
This bus is an absolute delight - very quiet, very responsive and very warm on a chilling early Summer's morning.
We were driven by James Clough, Blackpool Transport's Commercial & Finance Director and it was good to see a member of the senior management team showing such passion about, not only the bus, but his job as well. Thank you James.
We later went out filming the bus at various locations along the route and I am grateful to Matthew Morton and Tony Armitage for their contributions as well.
