Fun fact: Before the fight, Minotaur’s team outfitted the top of the bot with a titanium plate, which is why Blacksmith’s hammer seemed so ineffective in this fight.
@@Mike_Dubayou Yeah, of all the weapons over the years I don't think I've ever seen a hammer be very effective. Now a spinner with hinged hammers on the sides that can be released to strike.....
I think they are geniunely scared. The machines are sometimes 200 pounds and of course they have bullefproof glass but I bet they are afraid even that can fail
Nah this feels like watching WWE where the announcers' job is to "sell" the action to the viewer. There's plenty of times where it's obvious that something is doing no damage to a bot and they are losing their minds over it. Then again I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of overlap between the viewership of Battlebots and pro wrestling....
im REALLY new to battlebots and i have no clue why people use the hammer. It doesn't seem to do any damage even on direct contact and its only use (as far as i can tell) is for making sure it doesn't flip over. Does like target the inside of the battlebot and damage the motors and stuff or is it just not powerful?
@@Justanaveragenoob8781it’s supposed to hit stuff like chain wheel and internal hardware and it can work as shatter is pretty good but the issue is spinner bots are really good and for the most part a bots too armor is fairly decent
In this matchup, Blacksmith's overbuilt design was its own downfall, while Minotaur's tick-like flat profile was the perfect design/engineering counter-measure to render Blacksmith's weapon largely ineffective. Sure, it got its blows in here and there but inflicting little, if any, noticeable damage that was more than cosmetic in nature -- all while Minotaur went to work gradually deconstructing it, bit by bit.
For real. The only exciting competitions anymore are basically Battlebots and select E sports. Like pro Super Smash Bros matches are crazy entertaining imo.
ive never seen something like this before. this is my first time watching robots fight and i am HOOKED. its the the most futuristic sport. its fighting with ROBOTS. its awesome!
I love that last shot from Minotaur so much, it's almost like a finishing move from some video game, just hooks itself onto Blacksmith's front, sticks on, and just grinds Blacksmith down, lighting it on fire. Absolutely amazing fight.
@@gregtronica3569 ..... Well I would say something but I think your name describes yourself perfectly so instead I will complement you on your accurate self marketing we don't see enough of that these days 👍
We're not gonna talk about who you are, we're gonna see this as normal comment and reply normally At least im gonna do that idk what the future replys down here will be filled with
Gotta admit, this is the best possible way for these fights to go: both bots get to slug it out to the very end, until one dies in a burst of smoke and/or flame. You don't get much more theatrical than that, and it was beyond awesome.
Raccoon boi pretty sure he got most destructive bot over that too. I think huge getting blown in half, and huge’s fight with free shipping make that list too. That cobalt shot on ghost raptor though.. everyone forgot about ol Al kindle
What is this?! Was I living under a rock?! This should become more popular than football and have a world championship every 4 years or something. Wow.
after reading comments many have been living under rocks, the UK had exactly same show but that started in February 1998 called robot wars, you would only tell the difference when the commentators speak everything else is exactly the same. rules format style of refs the lot
@@topbanana4013 No, actually. Robot Wars has two main differences that change the entire feel of the show. First of them being that Robot Wars imposes a pretty crippling weight limit onto the competitors, which I am lead to assume this was only done because they can't be fucked to actually fix/repair damage done to their arena/house bots. Which brings me to my next point, the traps and the house bots in the arena. They interfere way too much with the fight, and sometimes are determining factors in the fight, completely outside of the competitor's control. For a show that is supposed to be all about gladiatorial combat, that is absolutely unacceptable. The hazards in the arena should be there SOLELY to be used by the competitors to damage/take out their opponent. Robot Wars spoils any and all sense of competition with their arena and house bots. Also Carbide is the Tombstone of Robot Wars, and is by far the best bot in the series. Like, why do they even let him into the arena if he's just gunna- oh wait that's right he got assblasted on Battlebots so he moved to Robot Wars so he can eviscerate the dense population of ineffective flipperbots.
@@aMondayMorning The battlebots weight limit is 250lbs whereas robot wars is 110kg, as 1 kilo is about 2.2 pounds the robot wars weight limit is actually 243lbs, which isn't too different to battlebots Having said that the pit and the house robots do change the feel of the show a lot, but I like both of the different approaches
@@masteryoda2861 Tombstone is kind of just a hard counter to Minotaur, its two wheel design means it will always spin faster than Minotaur can circle it, and weapon-on-weapon Tombstone will win every time. The best way to beat Tombstone imo is to have excellent armor and pushing ability and let it beat itself up with its own weapon, but Minotaur can't do that without a total re-design (at which point it wouldn't really be Minotaur anymore).
@@soiherduliekvideoz Also to be fair, Minotaur was maybe one hit away from taking of the blade of Tombstone when they fought in season 3. The only reason that fight was stopped was because Minotaur was stuck on the arena floor. If that didn't happen, the fight could have ended way different for Tombstone. Minotaur is one sturdy bot, so glad that they're back for season 6.
This has got to be the most complete action packed battle ever!! With a fatality!! It couldn't asked for a better ending and win. Freakin ripped it apart and burned it down. Epic!!
The guy's face at 2:50 is priceless! :D Anyway Minotaur is a good robot. It's small and fast and its drum is one of the best weapons ever because it's a one-piece weapon, it's not too exposed to an enemy's attack and, being very heavy, it exploits the inertia it takes while it rolls, and that makes its attacks very dangerous. The weakness is the low reliability (2 wheels only)... but afterall every robot has some weakness
+h0m3st4r true true... actually the biggest weak is not the reach... but the weapon itself... when it spins at High RPM the drum acts as a gyroscope and makes minotaur hard to manage.... on the other side, it doesn't care at all if it gets flipped!
All the best looking bots were kinda useless. There was a team that appeared on the show a few times, these guys were true artists, they made the most elegant, beautiful bots you've ever seen, like a snake and a spider, they were works of art....but they were beyond useless. The simplest designs with the most basic of weaponry always won.
Maybe would have been better with a spike at the end of the hammer. Problem is the hammer was so heavy while the main body was not heavy enough, so it wasnt transferring all its weight into the strike.
Gotta admire Blacksmith's determination. Even with the head of the hammer gone, it kept smacking away at Minotaur, knowing that there was nothing to be done. He could have stopped moving much earlier in order to try to get counted out, but kept going even when it would be counter-productive to his bot. That's sportsmanship.
Blacksmith’s hammer is basically useless. I would stick my hand under it. In blacksmith’s fight against captain shrederator, captain shrederator used plastic on the top of their robot. Blacksmith hit the top armor at least 12 times and it did nothing. PLASTIC!
Keiji3G it is a mini bot and to be able to "produce" flames u need something to burn, it was only and effect cuz if he had like gasoline in there it would have blown when he got on fire
Robot fighting often has joke robots. people want to play and they know they can't win so they try to have fun and make it interesting. If I had to build something right now with my resources and fight Blacksmith my stuff would get crushed so I would try to make it as ridiculous as possible. Maybe a wet beanbag on a $20 R/C car with a pointy stick. Bring it, Blacksmith. They would make me cover the pointy sick for safety.
Minotaur, or more accurately Minotaur's pilot, has a real talent for sniffing out weakness and exploiting it. Minotaur fights by targeting the weakest points of armor and weapons and breaking them down with pinpoint precision; its incredibly accurate with its weapon, which is more than powerful enough despite its size, and the driver knows exactly how to put its momentum exactly where he wants it. I always find its matches more interesting than something like the HUGE spinners which are basically rocket tag. idk, maybe thats just me
@@joetroutt7425 We do not speak of that here. We have written in the Battlebots Gospel that "The reaper will come upon thee to kill, and may you avoid the Reaper, even attempt to kill it, he will find a way to kill you."
"Blacksmith's armor showing some gaps in it, it looks like Michael Strahan's smile" Two killer robots in the ring, but the biggest savage in the room is the one commentating behind the desk
Kinda expensive, need a big brain and lots of engineering and work, after the fight one goes down and repairs are too high, after all, after few fights, we all know those very expensive, very heavy and big robots will just sit in peoples basements and garages. That are mostly the reasons why is it such a small community
This is like from movie. Blacksmith is beating Minotaur like it's nothing, but Minotaur is getting under its layers, broke its hammer and grilled it into the fire and before that, he was waiting on its right time. Seriously. I wanna see it as a mini movie.
I'm just going to go right ahead and say it, Minotaur is the most dominant bot in the history of the show. It's the most well designed due to the simplicity and the power for its size. It's maneuverable and it's weapon is extremely powerful and it gets up to speed quickly, you can also self-right very easily. Which doctor was the only one that came close and that was due to the rule change
I absolutely LOVE the concept of all these bots in battle bots with complex mechanisms and well-thought out weapons and minotaur is just "fast spin go vroom?"
The more complex your machine, the more likely it is to fail under stress conditions. look at minotaur and tombstone and bite force. Simple and effective
Well, to be fair, human combat sports used to also be entertaining just like this... back in antiquity when they consisted of human opponents actually hurting and killing each other.
You go into the competition knowing it can happen, and repairing damage is part of the fun, so it's not as bad as it seems. It sucks when your bot catches on fire though and you know the electronics are lost
Despite being ground into garbage by Minotaur’s assault, Blacksmith still kept trying to fight back with no fear or running away! This was a crazy fight for sure!
That’s because the original version on Comedy Central did it right with multiple weight classes and enough entries to be worthy of running as long as it did, and it should have lasted a lot longer. The ABC remake, by comparison, is a travesty and borderline unwatchable for us purists. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve never seen a decisive finisher Ike that before or since, though.
And it was. This season they put a bigger, heavier drum on Minotaur...but then it didn't spin anywhere near as fast, took forever to spin up, and was basically useless. Old Minotaur is so much better.
Michel Schweinsberg They simply got the gear ratio wrong. It was geared way too much for torque against Whiplash, and the drum was digging the floor against Gigabyte. They finally got these issues ironed out in the latter half of the season.
Blacksmith was utter garbage. Ineffective weapon, high center of gravity, poor construction, weak design, weak materials. Deserved to burn. Thanks to the fuel for that stupid flamethrower that was for looks only and did nothing, the expensive radio gear and servos are all ruined. Whereas Minotaur had a really great design and very effective weapon, no frills.
Blacksmith was an Episode 1 qualifier bot... I would venture to say that since they had to do an additional introductory battle, that whomever runs the tournament felt that it wasn't that great of a bot (although SoW was in those matches as well, it easily destroyed the competition in a matter of seconds). On the other hand, it at least had great armor. Maybe the idea was to outlast the opponent and score enough good-looking hits to win in a judges decision.Having said all of that, I also question how Mintotaur will do against a higher end control or spinner bot with more experience in Battlebots like a Bronco, Tombstone, or Complete Control.
Minotaur doesn't truly have a "really great design". It can barely control itself when its weapon is spinning. Look at how it instantly leaves the ground while trying to turn at 0:22 . Minotaur can't compensate for the gyroscopic effect and almost loses control.
Even if Minotaur were to flip over, the wheels are on both bottom and top, so something like that wouldn't take him out of the match (unlike with Nightmare's design). But still, it could cause him being vulnerable to attacks, which that in itself could be fatal; especially against bots like Bronco or Tombstone. Heck, even Icewave could do some damage if that were to happen.
I mean, World of Tanks got popular enough that Girls Und Panzer became a thing. So it's not entirely unreasonable. But BB would need to surge in popularity.
+Brandon MacDougall like with the grapple it put on Bombshell but it has to avoid having Minotaur face him because that drum spinner COULD wreck that grappler.
At first I was like : "That small cube with a tazer has nothing against a fire hammer" But then it was like "Holy sh*t that hammer bot is fu*king dead"
My boss who is like alot older then me just loves this show ! I miss going to work at his house ( make shift office in house lol ) drinking coffee smokeing pot and watching this. I never interrupted him as this is like your teacher telling you a story. Its called Moral and thats what drives good workers.
Too bad its driver was a dumbass who remembered how to press its button a little later on. Plus he doesn't have good timing. The hammer is all about proper timing when to press the button.
