Blacksmithing - Forging a cone hardy and some hooks

In this video I make a cone hardy tool for the anvil. It can be used in many projects where you bend or tweak a round shape. The anvil horn is hardly ever completely round so this is a good complement. It also makes it easy to see what you are doing since it is upright, perpendicular to the anvil face.

Then, what an awesome shoutout to Jon Switzer and Black Bear Forge, that makes me so happy, he's just marvellous. Then to see your young chap doing such a good job too is profoundly pleasing. When I woke up this morning, I had to face a whole bunch of work I wasn't very happy about doing, but I checked in on RU-vid, and saw, "Aha! A new Torbjörn video. *It is good to see that your son naturally grips the hammer without his forefinger going forward on the shank, and with his thumb wrapped around and under the shank handle. He will always have far better control that way and more strength in his hammer blows using the tools that way, as you know, Torbjörn. Good for him. He is doing really well even though the diameter is presently a bit big for him, until he developed more arm strength which he will grow into soon. Your sense of timing for him is very wise. By matching his hand size and grip/arm strength to this tutorial experimentation would/could have been troublesome and discouraging a month ago, or whenever it was last that I saw his hand use. You are a good teacher, as I have always said.*

I'm working as an automation engineer and prefer to chase electrons in the wires, but i learned the "love of fixing things" from my dad :)

god the amount of control he has on the power hammer, it's damn lovely EDIT: Also, the way he invites his son to come help him with blacksmithing is just.. heart melting, i would love to be able to do that if I ever have a son or daughter, would be so cool. Also, a question for my fellow enthusiasts; does anyone know if there is a difference in cooling the metal when heat treating? like, you see him here shaking the living hell out of that piece of poor steel having it's face drowned in cold water (lol, im a poet), does that actually make a difference in terms of steel hardening terms? as opposed to just giving it a gentle bath? P.S. My first language is not English, sorry for any inconvenience while reading my banal sentences. Thank you (Yes, I know)

@@torbjornahman Wonderful explanation Sir. I will just add that it is called a "Leidenfrost effect". It starts above around 190 degrees celsius. So it's easy to see when you drop some water on a very hot pan. Drop will not evaporate immediately, it will stay above the pan surface on the water vapor cushion.
