Blacksmith FORGED RAM'S HEAD ornate medieval inspired walking stick with forged/Formed leaves and rod wrap.
Hello all and welcome back to Empty Pockets Ironworks.
This weeks mid week upload demonstrates one of our unique walking sticks, This is a medieval Renaissance festival inspired walking staff/stick I've done a few of these now but this is only my second forged rams head so be nice lol.
I'm also feeling very under the weather again, Unfortunately the seasonal cold/Allergies have taken a turn on my poor old immune system. Little known fun fact I had a form of Lymphoma in early 2000 and had to have lymph nodes removed so my immunity takes a hit every time the wind decides to blow something fun my way.
For this project the beaver cut wood I'm using comes from Arkansas, its Cedar and was generously donated by our friends in the Ozarks.
As I mentioned this forged Rams head is only my second attempt, the first will show up in the ending slides. These are fun to make and can be as simple or as complex as a person wants. I really enjoy doing them because there are so many creative ways to add a uniqueness to each of them. For this project I use the forge, the plasma and of course the welder along with a few other typical power tools. This project could be completely done with just a torch and basic hand tools if needed.

I've not seen anyone else do leaves like that, fullering and then narrow peening around the edges. I like it a lot!

Thank you, I first tried it a couple weeks ago and really liked the look. Larger leaves it really allows for some organic looking shaping.

@@wrotiron Hope you don't mind if I try your technique! I'm doing more and more leaves lately as parts of other projects.

@@brysonalden5414 don't mind at all, I used to forge out all the leaves for roses etc out of rod but wanted to try something with a little more controlled shape and it worked really well. Hope it works out good for ya.

I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago and have really been enjoying the content you are posting. I like what I am seeing in that you use methods and tools from other trades/crafts as a means to an end rather than just traditional blacksmithing. Just gave you a follow on IG as well.

Very nice, love the way you did the leaves! Make sure you send one to Crawford for his blacksmith family tree!

Empty Pockets Ironworks Yes, Daniel Crawford of Dragonstone Gem and Ironworks is putting together a blacksmiths family tree and is asking blacksmiths all over the world to send him a leaf to include themselves on his tree. If I could send you the link I would but computers are not my thing and I have no idea how!!! Look up his channel for info, I will be sending a leaf as well as a lot of other aussie blacksmiths.
