Never thought about this before, but i you're right... I'm scandinavian and i love hammers. But this cannot just be true for Scandinavians? What does the rest of the world do when they have to repair something, or destroy? Or when you're hunting seals and polarbears? Or go fishing? Arguing with your neighbour? Hammers are used for almost anything...

I always like to watch someone make things on their own. I've learned many things from RU-vid. The two things that were to my advantage was how to heat treat and temper metal parts, for making the mounts for a larger gas tank on my motorcycle, the hinge for my solo seat and the cross bar to mount the two springs under the back of my seat. The other was how to do a perfect paint job on the gas tank using spray paint. For the record, I'm not a real wizard, it's just a nickname I was given as I'm self-taught in many things that have been useful not only in my life but also for family and friends as I saved them money from not hiring a professional to do something.

You're right - this is a work of art, not a product. Not really comparable to Chinese products, or any other "products" for that matter. There's at least a couple of hundred dollars in labor in this hammer, not to mention the value of the artistry/craftsmanship. And the Chinese products aren't so much "bad", they're just low on the cost/value curve - and that's what a lot of people want.

I like the polishing on the two ends of the hammer. A better polish leaves less imprints on the metal being struck. Great example of offset turning! And perfect grain orientation on the handle.
