well, i was kinda lucky since my dad knew of a guy in my area that was a blacksmith. and i called him.. but try and search the net.. there are Many blacksmiths out there, you just have to look for them. And how old? well.. im 19, have been blacksmith for 1 year now. But it doesnt really matter how old you are, as long as you respect the materials and the fire :) but feel free to as if you want to ;)

I'm afraid thats incorrect, all of the iron and steel weapons of medieval Europe were crafted with charcoal heated forges, coal was not introduced to Europe until the 1700s. While charcoal Briquettes are not the best choice due to large amounts of impurities in them, they can get steel to forging temperature. The better choice for forging though is natural lump charcoal, which essentially looks like burnt tree branches.

are you think of the same charcoal as you put in your BBQ grill? because then the answer is no, you have to use some coal that is ment to whitstand these high temperatures.. i dont know what its called in english though :( but ASk around, and remember google is your friend, so its not that hard to find a english hp about blacksmithing :)
