Today I demo the Blackstar HT-1, the original 1W amp (Available in Head or Combo). The version I demo here is the HT-1R combo.
This amp and me go way back. I bought it in 2011 shortly after starting university. I needed an amp that was affordable, quiet enough to use in a shared flat, had a cab sim out, yet still had the option to run to an external cab for studio recording.

These are some of the best amp demos I have seen. I'm so sick of videos where people ramble for 10 minutes and play for 30 seconds on one setting. Keep it up!

Been saying it for years.... Ht1s cleans are just incredible. Accidental magic by blackstar. I almost never use the overdrive channel. Just two ht1s in a stereo cab (signals split by stereo fx pedals) at full volume and use pedals if I need crunch. Wish I could replicate the tone on stage, but for recording, it's like having some kind of crazy classic showman/jtm hybrid of cleans on the verge of breakup. Sounds like a different era altogether. Any decent overdrive pedal really pushes it into tonal heaven. Really love the way an odr or a blues driver sounds with it. For Jimmy Page's Ocean tone instantly, split with a TC mimiq to slightly double the tone into the two heads. Now I've spoken too much and have given away all the secrets!

What a good demo ! I have a HT-1 R and it makes exactly what you show. I add that I am very satisfied with its acoustic qualities and functions. In any case, congratulations. A french musician.

This combo have 8inch speaker,not god for recording..with external cabinet sounds good,but with original speaker sound so poor,and speaker have many low tone(have many bass,becouse close cabinet)

@@djh1066 sorry for my bad English,if you need,i can record Comparison this combo amp , stock speaker vs external close cabinet with 12inch speaker celestion ceventy 80 in my combo Ibanez Iron Label 15w, with external cabinet blackstar sounds really so god,and if you was use EQ pedal before amp or OD/heater pedal,you can get great sound. I record video,wait 14-16 hours pls.

I've had mine for 10 years or so. It's one of the Korean ones. (No reverb) I don't know if that makes any difference. That's all I use now. Straight in No Effects. It really doesn't work well with a bigger speaker. They added a ton of Bass so it sounded big through an 8 inch speaker. I think on the new ones they have a switch to cut some of the bass out so you can run it through a bigger cab.

New one has a USB and footswitch slot I believe some movements of internally components and minor tweaks, not 100% 👍

Hello! Nice video! How did you record it with 2 mics? Did you blend it? Which proportion? Could you please explain as it necessary to have a ribbon mic for make a same records? Is it possible to rec same tone with s57 only? THank you!

Hello mate, I recorded them separately then blended them differently depending on the part. You can get great results using one SM57 on the edge of the dust-cap 👍

These demo videos are awesome ! Among all these amps you tried out, which one would you recommend to get this nice, warm, typical marshally rock sound at bedroom-friendly level (maybe small gigs if it is big but has a lower wattage attenuator) ? It is like a quest ! Cheers

If you want a very warm overdrive the Blackstar HT gives you that. The Marshall SV20 with an attenuator gives probably the most authentic Marshall Overdrive. The Orange Brent Hinds terror is Orange's take on a Marshall and is great. Orange Tiny Terror is also one of my favourite low-mid gain crunch amps and quite Marshally. Fender Bassbreaker is no slouch either. It's a great time for affordable small wattage amps 👍

Hello, thanks for the amazing video. I have exactly the same amp but having some troubles with noise. I wonder why you get no noise at all when playing through the dirty channel while I get a monster noise everytime. Are you using any Noise Reduction Pedal? I read you "Signal Chain" and see you are actually using only a guitar + the amp. Is my blackstar wicked or is my Epiphone Les Paul just a piece of shit? Or could it be my cables? I appreciate for any help, thank you.

Hmm 🤔 That’s an odd one. Never had any issues with noise compared to other amps. I might of ran a cheap noise gate now you mention it on a couple of riffs (wouldn’t of done it for most of them) . I’ll update the description 👍

Do you find Blackstar sounds solid state? I had both the ht5 and then ht40 back in the day and found them somewhat sterile sounding.

I can't speak about any of their bigger amps but I've enjoyed the sounds of their smaller amps I've played.

Yes the phase inverter in the power-amp stage is solid state (MOSFET) and the preamp is only partly tube (Op-amp ICs + clipping diodes) so your ears not fooling you. So the title shoud rather be "The original 1 Watt Hybrid amp".

What if I use the emulated output into a pedal and then back in through the mp3 input? Would that work as a bootleg FX loop?

Hey, I think the MP3 is before the emulated output in the signal flow. The idea being you can plug your phone into the mp3 then plug headphones in and jam along. So if you plug the emulated out back into the mp3 out you’d create a feedback loop. (I think)

The ST-62s cleans are awesome and the CST24s gain + overdrive is awesome. Whichever is more important to you 👍

What if I want to add some tiny bit of time baed effects like delay or chorus? this thing does not have a fx loop right? will they just sound totally garbage in front of the amp?

Naa, should still sound good. Loads of classic amps don't have fx loops (AC15s, Old Marshalls, some Orange's etc.). Even as you start to turn the gain up you can usually find a balance that works. Sometimes it gets a bit out of control, but often thats what makes it fun 👍

Putting a reverb IN FRONT of the distortion - I dont really see a way thats in any shape or form "controllable" to be honest here.

Lots of classic records feature guitar tracks with delay or chorus pedals in front of (moderately) overdriven amps.

Should sound decent with clean and overdrive. Might get a bit chaotic in the front end with a lot of distortion (Can be either a good or a bad thing depending on your taste). 👍

Why is there a mic in front of the amp on display? How do we know it's JUST the onmiked amp we're hearing and not the pa instead that's giving an untrue demo😊
