I just bought it and can't wait to get it in the mail. These kinds of modeling amps are perfect because they have a headphone output that I can connect to my big JBL PartyBox 310. And an amp that is already excellent becomes absolutely incredible when connected to the right speaker system. When I feel like it and want to play with something light, I can unplug it and use the amp alone. And the Blackstar Architect software is really excellent-intuitive, well-designed where it needs to be, simple, and so on. I still keep a tube amp with a 2x12 cab for when I want to change things up and need a big, full sound, but I stick with modeling amps because there's no need for big amps nowadays. I even have the little Positive Grid Spark Go.

The Cab Rig or USB Outputs sound the same on V3 and V4? If so then they've changed the speaker or something!

I was looking forward to this given the title. But really mate, everything demoed on just OD2 is tantamount to pointless. Admittedly I am going to be less overwhelmed than a teen might be at an initial in store droid demo, even more so OD2 is largely moot to me as a voicing I seldom use in the ID:Core for my preferred genres. No argument, the increased OD will it'll certainly impact impress teen newbies in the shop which no doubt Blackstar are wanting to attract to their brand with his outstanding for its class and price point practice/home studio amp. Frame of reference. I own x2 ID: Core 40s among other amps. A V1 (original) for the past 6 years, and a V3 for circa the past 18-24 months. They are arguably my most used amps in my home/music studio for what should be self-apparent reasons. Not needing nor subsequently wanting to buy/swap either for a V4 for any of its specific few if significant to some newly introduced features, nevertheless I was curious to hear the touted increased volume aspect side by side compared. Having listened to the demos, if indeed those are the exact same settings, I acknowledge the V4 does have increased mids/resonance over its predecessors in its OD2 voicing although I seriously doubt it would make any difference in real terms in any attempt to gig even in a garage band situation playing over acoustic drums. If anything, the OD and Crunch voicings were already just loud enough to do so in a *small* venue setting with players capable of moderating themselves, better when elevated decoupled from the floor WITH Super Wide Stereo engaged. It was the ID:Core's Clean voicings which always would struggle to be heard in any mix (not reamplified through a PA). Hence why I would have liked to have heard them. The inexpensive solution if more volume is required without affecting the EQ other than as introduced on the fly by desire, and noticeably *much* louder than the V4 implementation, is to place a Booster pedal in the signal chain. I only use an inexpensive Kokko Mini Booster yet it works very well with the ID:Core 40 on all voicings. I'd have liked to have heard it in Warm and Bright Clean though to see if Blackstar did similarly with its presence. Which leads to the question, I wonder if Blackstar actually boosted the signal to the preamp in the (new?) DSP or just altered the *default* voicings' resonance & presence settings in Architect to achieve the mid/resonance increase? All that said, inarguably any revision ID:Core 40 makes for a worthwhile home playing/practice amp IMV&E. I'd buy a V4 if I didn't already have one, although the new features are insufficient for me to be interested in trading up from a V3 at this juncture. In fact, from having used ID:Cores for six years and being thoroughly familiar with them, the only thing even the V3 DSP offered over the original for me was its fuller Architect feature set compatibility. IMV I think Blackstar are struggling to find/implement/announce new features of this well established product predominently for 'NEW!' excitement hype marketing purposes -which is not to deride the already excellence of the product for what it is. Cheers.

I totally agree, I have a v3 40 and have no interest upgrading to v4.. I'm sure you could dial in v3 to sound very similar to v.4 by cutting bass a little, and boosting the treble, presence and middle a bit

@@NinecoreNeil Largely revoiced at an educated guess, possibly with signal boost from its DSP to the preamp. Can no doubt achieve the same with the V3 (and predecessors) by experimenting and editing the former in Architect (or Insider), and if more treble or mids/ bass boost volume and drive is wanted, boosting the signal in the signal chain with an inexpensive Booster pedal which many already playing for a few years will likely have.

all the basic controls are the same from the first Id Core streo 40 I bought used for under $100 a few yrars ago the USB is the first version which being the Pack Rat that I an I have almost any computer cable I might need to use the online software for the tweaks we can make to the amp no matter the version, be it like minea first issue , or the rest. I dont use those features but the effects built in are all pretty muck the same across the ID Core series mine works just fine and is in for a bit of a mod soon.. I'm adding a pair of switched 1/4" extension speaker output jacks recessed in the bottom of thee amp to drive the twin vertical 4X12" tower speaker cabs I'm building for that use soon... I think that the 40 watts the amp puts out will be enough to drive the cabe that will have their own power supply for the mini amp boards inside each cab for even more power... Yes I thought of that and will impedence match the cabs to the speaker circuit in the amp.. I checked it,, 4 0hms eacj internal speaker so the cabs will be the same rating... with the twin cabs stood side by side and the amp face down with the controls facing forward I have in essence a 'Full Stack" cool Huh... I like to tweak my toy for more power and better sound when I have a good idea ofr how it all will work together... I used to salvage old discarded stereo and TV consoles that'don't wirk' and usually i find the blown fuse that took it out of service and they were usually older units that got replaced with the 'New thing' so i get good old stuff Ican fix easily for just the cost of a fuse or soldering a broken solder connection maybe, and the good parts I want to keep get whatever cab i need to build for them and the speakers get a new/ salvaged kitchen cabinet to call home in my room with the rest of the stuff i connected all up for my stack of audio toys that I got pretty much free... I did the same with discarded bicycles too.. I spent very little for my toys... some fixes a little paint a fuse here or there... whatever to make it work for my purposes... LOL I still sort of do that.. now I'm " building" my guitar cillection myself one project at a time to get exactly what I want how I want it... what fun.. first the "Stellarcaster" from a cheap Chinese made 'Starcaster' 'Strat' .electric guitar By: Fender (said that right on the head stock) . and next a (Tele) Esquire single coil with a Dylan talks Tone Tele bridge Pick up that Dylan made in an experiment with another Pick up maker with the same parts and winder to see what differences , if any they might have from ine maker to the other's Pick up... there was a slight difference but very little if not checked side by side there may not be noticable.. aI got the one that Dylan made and did a random gave away and I won that one.. ... It's just waiting for the guitar to get mounted in some time soon...I likw making my own toys I want...Wanna Play???

The V4 in my humble opinion smashes the V3 it has a ton more gain, and definitely more mid focused. The V4 sounds absolutely stunning

I had the older 40 and 100 loved them, now I have the HT20 and HT1 combos. Thinking of getting .an id core 10 V4, loved the sounds. I believe we all have our sounds we love, however, I know the true potential of these amps, is through the software in order to get the most out of the amp. Many say they hate the sounds, but I suggest trying out the software before giving up.

Don't agree. Just sounds gainier with more mids/resonance in OD2. Could possibly achieve that with extant revision ID:Core DSPs by altering the default voicings in Architect. If not and it was actually implemented in the DSP by boosted signal to the preamp, an inexpensive Mini Booster pedal would do the job for any version ID:Core to nail that equal to better than the V4 if desired, and with far greater flexibility/versatility.

Yes it does really, along with two channel stereo recording to properly to demonstrate SWS. That said, even that doesn't accurately represent the apparent impact on aural perception of the ID:Core's enabled SWS feature within an average sized home room IMEV. The other thing that can be done which makes a noticeable difference with this amp is to elevate it so as to decouple it from the floor, especially where the latter is carpeted. An appropriately sized foldback stand is perfect.
