I think the first scenario in the Impossible Landscapes campaign, Night Floors, was an inspiration for Archive 81. At the very least, its direct guidance on how to run the first part of the campaign!
Every so often I'd run a game of of Pulp Cthulhu for one ~5 hour session, and basically every one shit would be basically just an old horror movie. I'm primarily an improv GM, so when the majority of my prep is just watching an 80 minute once, maybe twice, drawing simple a map or two in MSpaint, and making three or four premade characters and like two NPCs and one monster, it makes everything run so smoothly.
Another fantastic episode gents, if your looking for suggestions for music may I recommend the album Barrow by Cemeteries it has definite mythos vibes.
I just read a book called Between Two Fires i would highly recommend for Cthulhu Dark Ages inspiration. Its about a excommunicated knight travelling with a girl who can see angels during the black death as society in france has almost collapsed but the kicker is all the superstitious fears are real and are a lot closer to things from Dark Souls or Blasephemous than regular folklore. Its an amazing book in its own right but for DA cthulhu its been a great idea well.
I'm a big fan of Christopher Buehlman. He used to be a regular on the ren-fest circuit. Despite his "Insulter for Hire" act, he's a terribly nice guy, and was infinitely patient with my small-time author self. His book 'The Lesser Dead' is freakin brilliant. Can't recommend that one enough. I've been meaning to read Between Two Fires for years, so I went ahead and picked up the Audible edition. Thanks for the recommendation and reminder.
Blackwater Creek. Shove the grass. Milk of the goat mother of the Woods yuck double double yuck. This particular aspect of Shubnigurath is disgusting and I usually don't employ it , even when the scenario calls for it unless I absolutely have to LOL I started to run this saddle a convention a bunch of years ago when it first came out. And I was just a little under ready because I was having trouble getting into the scenario. But I handed out the character sheets because we had to get going whether I was ready or not. And instead of making our way into the town of trouble we had a great storm and a flat tire and some engine trouble. But we happen to be in an area where the uncle of one of the player characters had recently purchased some property. The uncle had asked the guy to look into what he thought was some funny goings on and maybe some squatters in the basement or something but the guy just hadn't had time cuz Mobsters got a mobster. But here they were and all kinds of trouble and close enough that they could Putt-Putt putt until they could see the silhouette of the house up the drive near a high area in front of a cliff and in the rain they got their suitcases and made their way to the house to dry out find some food and spend the night. And then we watched into the Bradford house LOL completely dodged Blackwater Creek all together. The second night of the convention I was going to run the Blackwater Creek part of it only one person that had been there the night before showed up for the second night and two other youngsters wanted to play so me and a gang of teenagers played colic Cathedral until about 3:00 in the morning finally getting through the Blackwater Creek scenario. This past year at the same convention all three of those guys were at my table and they graduated high school and have jobs and stuff
