You reckon they treat it like a sports rivalry? Like they don't play for anything, they have no real skin in the game but they'll cheer on their guys and beat up the rival fans any day of the weak
Blackwoods are so awesome especially their sigil but damn. They came from the North they were beaten by the Starks so now they're in Riverlands. Brackens have any right to be mad at them. Blackwoods are the only family there who still worship the Old Gods yet they couldn't bend the knee to the Starks. Riverland is ruined they're always divided so Blackwoods can move freely there. Blackwoods are cool but they're stubborn as hell they're the problem

being their liege lord house tully could've easily stripped the titles and holdings of the offending house so that's why they played nice until now cause the current lord tully is a weakling
Not really, the Tullys have less men and income than both Blackwoods and Brackens, the Tullys always ruled the Riverlands with the support of the Crown and few vassals.
@@viniciusvyller9458No literally. They said in the show that the reason this happened was because Tully is a frail old man who's senile. That's how they were able to get away with this battle.
@@warbossgrotsmasha23 The King is the one that strips titles and lands. The liege lord is supposed to carry out that punishment and nominate a new landholder. The problem is the Blackwoods and Brackens have large armies and incomes from their lands, and like the Freys hold strategic parts of the Riverlands. That is why the Riverlands are not considered one of the actual seven kingdoms, it is very loosely governed by the Tullys and is more feudal than any of the other kingdoms.
@@SantomPh i'd strip their titles (both bracken and blackwood) and hand over their lands to the tullys and then send the brackens and the blackwoods to the wall, an expedition beyond the wall would either make them friends or utterly destroy them, either way their feud won't bother anyone ever again
That's probably where this is headed in ASOIAF. There'll be two young people from each House falling in love, they'll likely die tragically and the rest of their families will probably be shamed into finally making peace as a result.
@@ronanchristiana.belleza9270 It’s a joke about how dangerous it is to live in the riverlands. Mainly due to its geographic location. There were four different great houses that at one point controlled the riverlands, but all are extinct.
@@Matt2009-ft5yu Yeah or Crimea/Ukraine. It was the greeks, then romans, then Byzantium, then like 10+ nomadic clans fought over it (including the turks and mongols). Hell at one point even the jews had crimea. And then finally Russia, then independent ukraine, now russia again.
The feud between Blackwood and Bracken would be a perfect set up for a Game of Thrones version of Romeo and Juliet. Just like how the cause of the feud between the Montegue's and Capulet's is unknown, no one knows what started the feud between the Blackwoods and Brackens. And like in Romeo and Juliet, these two houses fighting has led to unnecessary death and destruction. If it doesn't exist already, there needs to be a fanfic of where a son and daughter of these two houses fall in love. And either suffer the same fate as Romeo and Juliet, or work to bring about the end of the feud.

Last season a brackens heir brought a knife to a sword fight against blackwood kid . This season they did the reverse, and the brackens still ended up on the pointy part of a sword. 😂
It looks like he's been killed by a large white arrow and in the books alyssane blackwood kills him with a weirwood arrow after he kills her brother so it's very likely him@@alexlavigne6876
GoT first aired in 2010, 14 years ago. How come people are still struggling to understand that full battle scenes are ridiculously expensive to produce and every single battle referenced in the show cannot be shown in it's full glory?
Also just works better this way tbh. Helps emphasise the themes of rapid, out-of-control escalation. Hundreds of bodies in the literal blink of an eye.
Exactly! The best seasons of Game of thrones cut battles left right and center. It was only when the show had like a quadrillion in budget to pull from that we got more battles
Don’t watch the show if you have such a problem. Also yeah HBO can afford it, but HotD is made by show runners who are given a budget to use from. The money isn’t unlimited 🤦🏻♂️
I love how even though we never saw the actual battle the Bloody aftermath and the fields and river covered with Thousands of Bodies from both sides alone tells you how deep this Hatred goes. The Brackens and the Blackwoods are the Hatfields and Mccoys of this World. They do not know why only that they are forever in a Blood Feud with eachother.
If the Hatfields and McCoys, both had private armies and their feud lasted centuries, which I wonder if that would be entertaining or sad, like oh turn on the news another battle between them fucking red necks 😂
Nice little piece of writing, mirroring the great Otto Hightower's line to Aegon II in the prior episode. This conflict is filled with people who "dare," and that's the problem.
despite their honest dislike of each other, Stark and Lannister have never actually fought openly until the War of the Five Kings. Cregan never got to fight the Lannisters, who surrendered before he could march to their lands.
Hard to fight each other, when you are so far away. And they did end up as allies plenty of time anyway. It was mostly just Ned being disgusted with Tywin for killing children and then it escalated.
I though it was more of generational thing, every war has different enemies, the lanisters and straks ended on the opposing side in the war of the 5 kings in a few generations they might fight on the same side

Idk why but I’d honestly rather watch a feud between these two houses over the Targaryen plot. I think it’s because the blacjwoods remind me of the stakes and the bracken the lannisters
I feel for the Riverlands. The Riverlands is almost like the Heart ❤ of Westeros, the most essential part of the Realm is also the most dangerously damaged 💔
it has the unfortunate problem of being the midpoint where all armies clash. That is why the Reach is so beautiful and fertile, no one has actually invaded it by land until Robert's Rebellion.
Its nice to see that there's no good guys in the series. The Bracken's were the arseholes last season while the Blackwoods were the arseholes this season. Can't wait for Bittersteal and Bloodraven in Dunk and Egg
I like to imagine that instead of heading back to their hometown to organize an army, the conflict just escalated from that very moment as Blackwood and Bracken men just slowly poured into the battlefield by chance and started fighting each other without knowing why.
Agreed, he could also have played a good Ramsay in GoT maybe. I'd like to see more of him. Hope the rumours aren't true and this not some random (now dead) Blackwood, but actually Bloody Ben instead
The Hatfield's and Mccoys of GoT. These two families have feuded and waged war against each other for literal centuries that in universe historians dont even know what started the feud in the first place. They have a habit for deliberately picking opposing sides in civil wars just for the excuse of murdering each other legally. Because of their constant skirmishes and warring they have a very experienced and unusually large standing army despite being mid tier nobility making them valuable allies to court.
I hope we get a flashback scene or something to the burning mill. I had no idea it was gonna happen so fast. But when the screen switched from their face off to thousands of dead bodies It was awesome. I never know what’s going to happen with hotd
Did the skirmish start around the Bracken knight being disarmed and killed with his own sword? They show him down in the water by the bridge with his sword in his neck, and I wonder if that's what started the battle or if he stabbed the Blackwood and later died fighting
Extremely exagurated scene in terms of casualties. But it is refreshing that show shows conflict between Vassals and not just Major houses. I wish that show emphasize more on the importance of Vassals.
@@blacklight4720 ??? They aren't minor houses lol. Both Houses are former River Kings, and currently second only to the Tullys. They are the Hightowers and Boltons of the Riverlands.
@@rampagepotato4307 You're correct they have a history and a big army. What I meant was the place they are currently in, within the feudal hierarchy structure. G.R.R.M decided to avoid status titles because of the future constraints to his writing, he call everyone "Lord"(you can look it up). It doesn't mean everyone in Westeros is equal. Darkwood is a vassal to a Tully, and Tully is a vassal to Targeryans. The reason I called them minor house, is because they are much lower in feudal structure. I suppose they are equal to a "Duke" title( I originally confused them with "count"), yea I guess "Duke" is not a minor house, "counts" are. My original critique was about the absurd amount of casualties in a battle between Dukes. It has to do with the number of man they can deploy, and how much they have to lose when their peasants die. The feudal system is largely dependent on land and man. Losing thousands of tax payers, even hundreds means house collapse
Or have one of them leave the Riverlands and move to a different region of Westros. Like to the Vale, Storms End, or Highgarden. Have each house gather as many men as possible, let them duke it out and the house that is defeated has to go.
This is what an aftermath of a battlefield would look like. In reality the amount of corpses would stretch across the horizon and the river would've turned red along with several men agonizing and slowly dying among the corpses.
Not really. Very few battle fields would be this deadly where everyone just chooses to stand and fight to the death. Most men would choose to run away first. Historically most casualties would occur when one side started fleeing and the other chased them down
@@zoom4897 Depends entirely on when your talking about, and if either side can effectively run down the other. Most people die in a battle when running away, not during the actual fighting.
I'd love to see a solo story with the Blackwood-Bracken conflict. Both houses, although being minor, both have such importance in the main story with Bloodraven and Bittersteel. With the golden company helping Aegon (Blackfrye) take Westeros, which might lead to conflict with Dany. And with the Three Eyed Crow teaching Bran Stark how to do old god magic which may help with the White Walkers. Blackwood and Bracken both playing into the song of Ice and Fire
What battle?, they only showed that aftermath of it, it could have been nice to see more of it. So, these two long time rival foolish houses let loose the war?. Going from the confrontation to sounds of battle without showing the actual fighting is so Dr. Zhivago,. and somehow it works for the story. I like how Aegon is put in his place when he asks if his side won, the response is that the cost of victory was too high to celebrate anything.
Que omitieran la batalla me parece una falta de respeto honestamente, Daemon brilló por su ausencia, Alysanne de momento omitida (aunque aparecerá, espero), a Ser Amos no lo mencionan, simplemente lo vemos morir y ya, a Benjicot solo lo vemos y ya, y a Samwell lo matan sin que llegamos a verlo y simplemente lo mencionan por encima, en mi opinión esta era una de las batallas que no debían ser censuradas.
Harren the Black has these punk fools under his thumb. Too bad that Aegon the Conqueror invaded, and too bad Harren’s pride cost House Hoare it’s very existence, or the Hoares might still be Kings of the Isles and the Rivers.
