Fun fact: This is the last time we see Deckard's blaster used, and if you pay close attention to the gunshot sound, it very much keeps the original film's signature "hammer click" before the shot fires. Beautiful attention to detail. Not only that, but Deckard's blaster in this film has its own unique sound compared to Luv's, and her blaster has a unique sound compared to K's, and so on. Remarkable work by the sound team in making every blaster unique while still paying homage to the original film.
As it was said in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly- Every gun makes it's own tune ;)

Sound effects added in post production. The gun is a prop made from bits of other prop guns originally. A revolver with a bolt action second barrel for a rifle cartridge, kind of stupid but imaginative to gun nerds. Perhaps the rifle cartridge was intended to "retire" the replicants and the revolver for defense use.
While it sucks that BR2049 didn't get a nod for Best Dir. /Picture, I actually hate more that Sylvia Hoeks didn't get anything for her fantastic performance. She and Robin Wright killed it here.
One of the most thrilling scenes in recent memory the silhouette of K getting out of the spinner is absolute pure brilliance i was gripping my seat the entire time
Pretty much every shot in this movie is perfect to begin with, but I just want to call special attention to the one at 0:56. Roger Deakins is the master of silhouettes, and the image of K getting out of the spinner combined with the swell in the music...goosebumps, man, every time.
I went to a Dolby Atmos instead of IMAX. When K fired his gun the first time, it literally sounded like a small explosion happened somewhere inside the theater.
+Steven Cravens Well how many percent of the world are geniuses, scientists, great writers, great artists ? I'm not saying that I'm a genius, just saying that the majority does not always have the best tastes or get it ...
Sadly you can see the lack of coordination between escenes, Hoeks should be pulled quick just at the moment K punched her,.but you can see that moment kinda chopped. It's sad cuz it shows "reality" about the enhanced strength of replicants.
They paid millions of dollars to get talented artists to build beautiful miniature models, go to great locations and then decide to bury all the beauty under heavy fog and mist and tons of water .. look at this scene, its basically a luxury car in total darkness and lots of water pounding it, it could be done anywhere in a cheap studio with its lights off ..
+Jack Z I feel 2049 looks like they took the first movie, muffle the visuals by applying load of glustick over it and then replace all the neon lights with white flourescent tubes ... thats really how the movie looks to me, its full of uninteresting lighting and very hollow in terms of mood and atmosphere ...
NEON vs FLOURESCENT .... .... this is generally what I feel when watching the original (neon lights) vs the sequel (flourescent) ... visually speaking ..
The masses have to be told what to like. If it doesn’t conform to the cliches or what they have recently been told to like, they will not like said art. It’s a normies’ world.
Luv's character arc is the exact opposite of those for K and Joi. Her quest to be Wallace's perfect angel robs her of the humanity that both K and Joi seek...her destruction of Joi is pure sadistic spite and her last sight is literally lights forming a halo around K's head...his quest to save Deckard has made HIM symbolically an angel.
Love the contrast between their fighting styles. Luv has to move faster and wiser since she's smaller and not as strong as K, meanwhile K is more brutal and tanklike but at the cost of being slower.
Chumbo Jabroni ....She knew she was no match for him, but she gave it all she had. When she was shot, you can see the toll it took on her as opposed to him. He had superior stamina compared to her. She was fatigued at the end of the fight, it’s why he was able to drown her. She had nothing left in the tank to sustain a fight against a Blade Runner.
It is really well-directed as Luv clearly dominates K on open ground as she is faster and more skilled, but right after this she goes to closed space and K manages to land a surprise-grapple. Water adds drag making kicks and punches ineffective and closed space makes maneuvering impossible. Thus it boiled down to who gets better grip and can keep it longer. K had advantage in that situation and thus became victorious.
@@vksasdgaming9472 "Dominates" is a very strong word, I found them very similar overall in terms of their capability. She's faster for sure, more skilled? Not sure; in a way yes because you can attack more often and have more opportunities to fish for counterhits or set up some kind of trap for your opponent, but K managed to keep up with her quite well, tanking her attacks where necessary before sending her flying with a punch. Then she pulled a knife out, and K managed to again keep up with her movement and dodge/block really well all things considered. You could also see that K was distracted a lot in the fight, constantly checking on Deckard and THAT is what cost him the fight as Luv pulled out a second knife in that moment to incapacitate him.
so glad the director of this movie is going to remake Dune Edit: Ive already saw the trailer, I know the oscars are a joke now, but Dune probably will have have 11 nominations
1:25 they never show where she's been shot, you see blood spills on the couch but she's shown physically unscathed here and in the next shot without any bodily bleeding or even a damage to her clothing (you'd think they would at least show her checking out her own injury) and K being repeatedly being shot/injured at the same stomach location in this and the previous scenes ... a lot of really badly thought-out scenes in this movie ... .. such lazy film-making ... "masterpiece" ?, its just a slight above average film with lots of boring moments and logical flaws.
+Richard uhh ... I thoroughly enjoyed even longer runtime movies like Lawrence Of Arabia ... labelling anyone who dislike 2049 as having short attention span is rather childish and shallow minded ...
+Spurious Flatus I've rewatched this scene a few times, still unable to see any damages or injury on her ... sorry but I still do not see any damage to her right shoulder ...
Not to invalidate what you're saying, but, like...THAT'S what you're getting hung up on about this scene?? No offense to you, but I think a criticism like that is failing to see the forest for the trees.
+Spurious Flatus What a load of immature labelling of anyone who does not share your favourite movie .... sorry but it do seem that a lot of admirers of 2049 are rather immature and self-deluded about their taste level ..
I watched BR2049 rather late, last year during insanity-inducing isolation. It was an immersive experience like no other. 2049 and the original sucked me into another world. I've never experienced any feeling like it. Not even with my other favourite series like LOTR, Star Wars or Terminator. 2049 is easily one of my favourite films ever. Flawless imo. Such a shame it wasn't a big hit in cinemas.
When I first heard gosling was going to be in this, I thought it would suck...i have a lot of respect for him as an actor after this movie...he was perfect in his role as was everyone...its a masterpiece that will stand the test of time...I wish it had been nominated for more and that the box office was bigger...just goes to show that unless the movie is spoonfed, most people can't appreciate a fantastic movie with multiple, thought provoking themes.
weirdshibainu They Can the reason wasnt the thought proviking themes, The reason is that audiences like more fast paced movies Generally, For me Blade Runner 2049 is great and that slow Pace as the Original Made it Even better, but i'm just talking about a reason Why i think it had a poor Box Office Not the Quality wich is top notch for cinema standards till today, OTHER REASON WAS THE MARKETING, It should be done Better. But it was difficult Because The whole Movie From Begining to end is a SPOILER. So that is the Best they could do.
Natanael Rodriguez while I agree that they could have marketed better and perhaps the pace. I was amazed listening to the few people who I know who saw it, that were disappointed because " I liked the first one better because it was cool watching them hunt replicants" I'm not trying to be a movie snob here (too late? Lol) I just believe that excellent movies that makes one reflect on the thought provoking themes deserve better. Let's face it, probably no one turned out for a midnight showing ( if there was one for br2049) but turned out in droves for star wars the last jedi
The replicants are such tragic figures. It's almost impossible to hate them, even Luv & Baty. I swear just listening to this not watching (the sounds in this scene are amazing), when she says 'I'm the best one' I almost teared up, I have no idea why.
Well the other thing is Luv and K are probably Combat Models. They have various types like Labor, Pleasure Models. You are Right About the Upgrades! The Water Fight Scene Both K and Luv Shoot each other with guns that are designed to take down Replicants and it barely slows either of them down! This does make me think that Deckard is not a Replicant because he does not hold his own Combat in the First Movie or This one...
Possible, but the pleasure model Pris in the first movie was more than a match for him. I would have to say he is Definitely NOT a Combat Model. Maybe a Daddy Model...
Pris was not a pleasure model Zora was hence she did kill Deckard when she had the chance she ran . Pris studied manipulated humans to be an efficient infiltrator / killer she even camouflaged herself to have the upper hand by sneak attack against Deckard .
Incorrect. Pris was a "basic pleasure model," as stated by Captain Bryant. Zhora was retrained for an, "Off-world kick murder squad," and, presumably, previously a pleasure model.
This fight scene is so underrated Firstly, this is k's job, killing replicants. Luv attacks, but k counters: Luv pulls a knife, k adapts; K locks her up, Luv pulls a second knife "I'm the best one "
Ap. Daniel pretty sure she doesn’t love him, that or she’s incapable of separating affection and violence. You generally don’t go out of your way to hurt and kill someone you love.
this, and the holographic elvis fight scene are some of the best fight scenes ever made. BUt the relentlessness of the waves and music just sends this one
Seeing this at the cinema was next level. The size of it on the screen, the surround sound elevated the score and by christ the pulse of the gun shots when K fires, easily my greatest cinematic experience. Kills me that this bombed at the box office, like its predecessor I believe this film will age like fine wine and gain a cult following in years to come.
This movie is one of the few sequels I like, just like Terminator 2. You can tell the director was passionate about Blade Runner and gave it respect unlike most directors.
This film should have been nominated both for Best Film and Director! Perfection and that is just for this fight scene alone along with the outstanding soundtrack. Drenched in atmosphere with great performances.
Eugene Lau the sequel suffered the same fate the original did, not being a box office hit but becoming a cult classic. The oscar nominees are rather lame this year.
+Spurious Flatus And how do you know how many percent of the audiences who like 2049 are "sophisticated" ? Is there any study or survey that supports your opinion ? Something is not adding up ...
+Shattering delusions I really have a long list of reasons for disliking 2049, and I do not think that I belong to that "unsophisticated" people that you guys love to label people as .. I try to be as thoughtful as I can to watch certain genre movies which seems to target an intellectual or sophisticated audience .. I love such "brain food" movies as Donnie Darko, Apocalypse Now, Silence of The Lambs, Shutter Island etc ...Ridley Scott's Blade Runner belongs to that list, but 2049 is very far from it ... I know it tries to be one but I think its merely a pretentious third rate repeat of the first movie's themes, worse, its plot borders on being derivative of other movies such as The Matrix and HER ..
I didn't see Shape of Water, but I can't imagine it being better than the phenomenal music here to win best soundtrack at the Oscars. Goes so well with the setting, the universe. Incredible movie.
Denis Villeneuve did a homage to the first Bladerunner by having K think he was human. In the first Bladerunner Deckard’s human status was a mystery so the audience assumed his relationship with Rachel was human/replicant, a relationship that was similarly reproduced between K and Joi. This fight scene can also give credit to the original fight scene between Deckard and Roy Batty.
Luv was smart, capable, committed and ruthless-but she was out to complete a mission. K was smart, capable committed-and a man who had nothing left to loose, after the woman he loved was killed in front of him and even what he thought was his past was taken away from him. He did this to reunite father and child, there was nothing else left for him. No wonder he won the fight in the end. Also, incredible soundtrack and visuals.
I liked when K used Deckard's gun to shoot luv and her henchman. Using Deckard's gun K reminded me of Deckard in his trenchcoat in the first one shooting the replicants. K is very reminiscent of Deckard even if he wasn't his son.
There is a special atmosphere with this scene, especially because of the sounds effect and the soundtrack, absolutely incredible, this is one of my favorite S-F movie ever ❤
Not only was this an amazing action scene, it was also (considering all the events leading up to it and the misdirection) a mind bending puzzle...I had no idea what the hell was happening or what the story was at this point or exactly who K was... Whether he would kill Deckard or not... and when he did not kill Deckard and was actually saving him... It blew my mind.......literally......the noir/mystery kept going once you thought you had it figured out... This action scene determined who K was, what kind of character he would be and identity he would end up as (just like the themes from the first film with Roy) This movie is a class act, a film about identity and what makes us human, what makes us have a soul... This action scene is the Human Soul Vs Artificial Intelligence (like the best SciFi films, terminator 2 and 2001 space oydessey, except the noir is absolutely always there first and foremost)......too bad society have no brain cells to watch...and let it fail at the box office...or Academy nominate for best picture and director. I am positive that this is the best/most immersive scifi film ever made.
Well said. Agreed. And yet there are a bunch of 'intellectual' snobs sneering at this film as 'a film for people who like to think they're intelligent' & just another empty blockbuster. It's like these people have never even heard of truly bad films like Transformers etc. You can argue how good this film actually is but to say things like one of the worst films ever made is just an objectively ridiculous statement.
I saw this movie in theaters and it was one of the best experiences I ever had I wish I could go back in time and watch it again the soundtrack, his gun, the waves man it was all so beautiful
@@dsns1461 Luv was probably Wallace's experimental model with enhanced combat capabilities, maybe even for a Nexus 9. K is/was a Blade Runner Nexus 9. While Luv maybe faster than K, K is more resilient and has better "instincts" for killing. Luv beats K in a fight, but K truly killed Luv in the end.
@@r3ckonner997 i think it doesnt matter what gender a replicant has (remember how she opened the broken door to the archive) both types have superior strenght. not to forget, both were injured in this fight from gun shots before and it depends also where one is wounded. luv also fighted with two knives. its hard to say who wins when both aren't injured and weaponless. not to forget K killed luv in the car, propably because his body was larger than hers, so he was able to press here under water while she couldnt reach him. whatever, sylvia is awesome in this scene (and she trained a lot for it, 6 days a week to get muscles and fighting skills ..... it was worth)
Officer K is vaguely concerned about his mortality only when it becomes apparent that he may be mortally wounded, so he is self aware about it. And he still strives to save Deckard........But in the end "All the best memories are hers"
One of the few sequels that are AS GOOD if not dare I say BETTER than the original. P.S.: The best scene in both parts is still Mr. Hauer's Tears in the Rain, though!
It's hard to describe the emotions you can feel at the cinema while watching this scene (let alone the first time). The music, characters (especially Luv 💗 😁), visuals. All perfect. It's still difficult for me to watch this fight. This and the final fight in Elysium (2013) are my top favorites (villains included).
this movie honestly requiers surround sound or a really good sound bar with speakers if not a good headset becasue the audio quality and feel really matter in this movie
@@massimosamdal257 I love listening to the track from this scene on the headphones but I can only do it just a few times before have to break away from it. Lol
A soundbar is antithetical to good sound. You need a full blown Dolby Atmos immersive system and great subs for this soundtrack. At least Warner Home Video didn't dumb the home Atmos track down for the Blu-ray and 4k Blu-ray releases. It's a subwoofer killer too. It puts Disney soundtracks to shame.
A brutal yet almost beautiful fight, but you have to wonder how K survived it. Shot in the chest, leg muscle shredded and leg torn open, all on top of earlier mounting injuries... Maybe he just decided if he was going to die, he was going out his way or not at all...?
