Blades in the Dark Lore - Doskvol Lore Part 1

Had an incredibly insular security team composed entirely of Tycherosi guards at the estate of the Shadow crew's mark. Membership only through sponsorship of an existing member. They spoke entirely in an obscure dialect of Tycherosi. The PCs had no clue what they were saying at any point.

Awesome video, really helps paint a bigger picture for new players! Tip for future content, have the others in discord with you record their voice locally as well and edit their tracks in. It drastically increases the production quality. It's super easy to hear who owns the PC doing the recording, and who is on the other end of a call.

I love Blades in the Dark, but the world is just a little _too_ Dark for me (both literally and figuratively). For that reason, some of the personal changes we made to the setting, are things like, during the "Day" the sky actually brightens to around what you can expect during the Nautical Twilight hours (the idea being that the Cataclysm resulted in the world becoming Tidally Locked to the Sun, rather than the Sun being sundered). As such, there are some lowlight plants that have managed to survive around the region where Doskvol is, including some non-petrified trees, etc. And so there is a greater variety of animals to eat (just because RPing crappy food sucks, lol), since they can actually be fed and maintained. Horses also exist, and are used extensively (as opposed to the goats). Again, this is just a flavour choice, horses are cool and with actual fodder available to feed them, there's no reason not to have them. The overall tech-level of our version of Doskvol, is closer to the 1700's than the 1800's, including the Leviathan Hunter Ships being Sailing Ships rather than the giant WWI-esque Battleships of the official setting. And speaking of Leviathans, they aren't as big, or immortal, but are nevertheless Terrifying Sea-Serpents, Mutated Megalodons, Titanic Krakens, and Horrific White Whales. And their blood remains a vital part of the setting, being the main source of illumination (much as Whale Oil was in the real world), but also, as a source of magical energy used to fuel many arcane secrets of the Empire (including the Immortality of the Emperor himself, and the Magics that keep the Ghosts from completely overwhelming the World). That being said, whilst the City is still Haunted in our Setting, we went for a much more _subtle_ approach, where the Hauntings are rare enough that they're not just a commonly accepted part of life, but common enough that most people have a story or two they can tell, and of course everyone has a "friend of a friend" who had a truly horrific encounter. Nevertheless there is enough room for some folk to be more skeptical. Choosing to believe that such stories are the result of hallucinations, or hoaxes, or perhaps the product of misidentification, or madness. And since the Ghosts are more subtle in our setting, the Lightning Barriers are not really a thing, instead we use the ancient magicks, administered and maintained by the Spirit Wardens (who are a Secret Society in our World, who double as Inquisitors who hunt down anyone using Magic or Leviathan/Spirit Powered Gear and Gadgets (i.e. the PC's). Overall, these changes are meant to create a slightly brighter, and slightly more hopeful setting, where you can actually be rewarded for being successful, and perhaps even enjoy retirement someday. In a world more akin to living in one of the Cities of the Empire in the Warhammer Fantasy World. Sure, it's still grim, and still dark, but it's not utterly hopeless or completely dismal.
