I live in the village today. The only thing that has really changed is that the railways are gone, the mining places hace been replaced with schools and there are way more trees.
Good quality steam coal which became too expensive to extract. At one point the famous ship The Mauritania was powered exclusively by coal from the 4ft 6in seam under Blaengwynfi.
