I grew up wrestling with Blair’s Will Henckel. We’re playing dodgeball after practice one time and I’m not the best player in the room, but he picks me first anyway. I asked him why and what he said I’ll never forget. “I’d rather take a shot at winning the upset with my friends than dominate with people I don’t know.” If I remember correctly, we lost pretty bad. He’s an amazing wrestler and a great person too.
@@xSayPleasex I thought so too. Honestly don't know a whole lot about these 2 teams but obviously they are very good. Was just wondering if u had a reason not to include iowa or what haha. A best of iowa vs these 2 would be cool tho
@@xSayPleasex nah these kids compete in national prep division or idk what it’s called but based on national rankings most of these kids would be state champs in almost every state besides like 2 states
Really good editing on this, turning a 90 minute marathon into a 10 minute highlight reel without making it feel like anything was missed. It's really bizarre that they would forfeit the deciding match though, I've seen wrestlers hide broken bones so that they didn't have to miss their match
Maybe he was battling a pre existing injury and coach wants him to not risk it for a high risk dual? idk just gonna trust the coach here, great matches.
I remember wrestling Blair somewhere around 1990 at the St Albans tournament in Washington DC. I think they had four number ones in that tournament of 64 different schools. RLTW 3/75
These young athletes will become the “shakers and movers” of the future. The technique and strategy lessons learned by these young men are the backbone of our society. Good work coaches!
@@margief1798 True. Unless they break each other’s backbones. 😎 The reality is that by this training, they are learning to deal with struggle, like real men. Struggle is a part of life, and for all intensive purposes, sometimes diplomacy and social etiquette just doesn’t work.
@@walthoward68 Nah. Did wrestling 3 years, folkstyle's okay I guess, I always preferred freestyle over folk though. I realized I could use a lot more of my judo training and techniques I knew in that style over folkstyle. More points available and a much more free style. Also, there's not really as many rules as folk. Folk doesn't let you clasp your hands, I always hated that rule.
@@zaynes5094 Judo is an excellent study, but I tend to believe that both forms of wrestling-depending upon the quality of coaching available-tones the body, and for developing young men on a subconscious level, it builds a more realistic sense of confidence and respect for others. Self-discipline is not something easily learned, and I believe that the ‘training’ involved here is worth its weight in gold, as far as confidence is concerned. I hope the legacy continues because it’s one of our best institutions in education. I realize that there are many ‘knuckle-dragging’ neanderthal coaches out there, but the physical and intellectual challenges wrestlers face so readily is a plus for those living in the blue collar world. Perhaps it’s more about balancing what you should do with what you should not. It goes far beyond a matter of win vs. loss. It’s about dignity, self-respect and honor as a man.
LOL. I guess it was a clean one still in the package, but I still would sure have loved to have girls fighting and giggling over my T-shirt when I was a little kid wrestling! That plus the fancy private school, some kids have all the luck! Man are these kids talented. Good luck to everyone out there reading this, the fortunate ones and the ones that have to work a little harder to get things going. Worked out well for me in the end, in sports and life!
That 175 freshman was something to see! To be that big and that good that early. We had a kid close to that at my school, but he had so much chest hair and 5 o'clock shadow, wasn't a real 9th grader. Lot of upside in these kids! Keep training hard!
@@johngetz8585 NY as well. Not surprising considering I wrestled in NY some 7-8 years ago and there's a tough competition here in wrestling. We've got some solid wrestlers that go DI/DIII. Ohio, Minnesota, Iowa, California, Pennsylvania usually the top 5. Even Colorado and Arizona has pretty solid teams and individuals all around. Indiana is famous now because of Nick Lee and his brothers. Tons of really great wrestlers have come out of either Pennsylvania, NY, or California.
@@MF-kb2nvBlair is prep academy that takes talent from everywhere, so that’s correct not every wrestler on their roster is from NJ. But NJ as a D1 wrestler producer has been consistent for decades. Even taking Blair out of the equation, they are usually in the top 5, when not on par with Ohio.
When you beat your biggest competition obviously you'll be happy, they all wrestled hard and gave it their all to win and you expect them to, what, be crying that they won by forfeit? Of course they're happy.
@@NoobDogsTripleOGicecream but there are also plenty of ufc fighters who were d1 wrestlers that became champions lesnar,DC,Hendricks,Cain,Woodly,Kevin randleman, tito Ortiz,Matt Hughes just to name few

BJJ clocks in at second place with 17 champions Wrestling has always transitioned the best in the UFC, and the numbers speak for themselves
I'm super confused on what the fuck just happened. They gave up on their heavyweight and just gave them the number one team in the US. I would have had a broken leg and still wrestled against them
Unquestioned No 1 in the country? There was a forfeit at the end....explain the FF and we can weigh in on that claim. No 2 in the country should not have a 190 and 210 that get cradled for a pin. C'mon man, We talking bout a craddle...we ain't talking bout a twister or an assassin, we talking bout a cradle.
Are you serious? Bo Nickal was cradling college wrestlers for fun. And even at #2 in the country, it doesn't mean that the opponent doesn't have a guy that's ranked in the top 5.
i remember wrestling snyder in a junior league match and beating him when we were in the same grade. I'm a senior now lol. his redshirt has turned pink
@@nitrox1613 Seriously it's PA? Like how does this school not just go out of its way to convince some jacked football player to join the team and fill the gap? Even, then, miracle spladles do happen, so why not let the rookie have a shot? If you lose, you lose, nothing lost, nothing gained.
NJ has the nastiest wrestlers. I mean that in a good way. I grew up in ct coached by a great mentor from jersey. I thought I wrestled yr round. These dudes at Blair live wrestling.
Technically it's usually Pennsylvania, followed by either Cali or Ohio. Arizona's got some competition and Brock Lesnar, as well as Gable Steveson, came from Minnesota. So, those are the best usually. I can attest to that having seen, some 8 years ago when I was in HS and did wrestling (even though I hated and still hate folkstyle), both Ohio and Pennsylvania wrestlers up close. I was surprised by the already-high levels those guys were at. Some guys from Ohio who were seniors and were getting pinned by guys who were in 9th/10th grade from Pennsylvania.
Man, I like the rest of America hate New Jersey. But gotta give the devil it’s due and respect their wrestling team. Also didn’t know Wyoming was even on the map for wrestling.
@@magma2185 F PSU but yet again gotta give the devil it’s due. Psu doesn’t rebuild they RELOAD. Still rooting for Iowa for what that’s worth. Anyway Pennsylvania has the best wrestling program k-12 in my opinion.
@@Joeygt25 it's well known that the North Allegheny team with the likes of Ty Moore and Ray Brinzer in the very early 90's was the best high-school wrestling team ever assembled.
Not for nothing my kid wrestles and as a parent if my kid looked at the opposing side and put his finger to his moth to shush them I would be pissed. I never liked cocky because there will always be someone better. Show some class and after the win help the other guy up. shake his hand like a man whhen you win or lose, nobody likes a sore loser.
There will always be someone better? That's theoretically true, but the top wrestlers won't even lose 5 matches in high school. And if they do, it's usually because they wrestle across the country. Unfortunately, they aren't humbled until they go to college.
