This film was contributed by Bill Blair who is also our narrator. Bill Blair is the 2nd son of Art and Marion Blair and was at the time of this interview 71 years young. His brother Ron who also appears in this film was 74 at the time of the interview. The Blair Brothers lumber mill, logging and mill operations was located north of Pacific House just a little east of Pollack Pines and Fresh Pond on Highway 50. The mill began operations sometime in the 1930's and the property was sold to the Michigan California Lumber Co. in 1958. Shortly after Michigan Cal raised the property, took down all of the buildings and sold the equipment. The retail operations continued in Placerville.
The follow video was digitized from 16mm film by George Mihai at the Office of Image Archaeology.

You talking on how the landing smelled took me back to my childhood on my dad Buch Wylies logging operations. A man working in the trees from 4 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m would be so dirty only his eyes and teeth would be bright and clean...but they smelled so good. Just like all those things in the woods and the trees. I havnt come across a man like those from my childhood in a long long time. Thank you for takeing me back to those days.

Thank you so much for sharing this video. I grew up in Pollock Pines 1962-1972. I found this video as I was looking for Blair Bridge info, as I just noticed the bridge is gone. I know this area well as I used to place here as a kid and teenager. I also remember Blair Brothers lumber yard in Placerville. The Blairs made Marshall Hospital possible. My dad owned Angles Automotive and Truck repair in Pollock. Interesting listening to the names you mentioned. The head faller, "Wentworth". Perhaps what Wentworth Springs is named after?? Do you remember who operated the mill in Cedar Grove by Oscars Market? I am Mike Angles Thanks again for the video.

I should have asked if you knew the Chappells. They operated a small mill down pass what is now Sly Park Lake. Roger Chappell was my teacher at Pinewood after it opened.

Thank you for sharing this video. I hauled logs in North Idaho starting in the early 70s. As we had “breakup” in the spring and unemployment at that time wasn’t meant to support your family, I drove a flatbed truck to get by until we could start hauling logs again. Anyway I found myself at a sawmill in Foresthill Ca. I was amazed at the size of the logs in the log yard. High decks of what I was told was Sugar pine. We had a lotta nice timber up north back then, but as a young fella I was impressed by the size and amount of logs at that place. Awesome memory
