Last summer, we headed north to Alaska to visit the two national parks above the Arctic Circle: Gates of the Arctic and Kobuk Valley. While many only experience these parks on a short fly-in day tour, we opted for the hard way: an 8-day backcountry canoe trip along 60+ miles of the Noatak River and a 2-day visit to the remote dune field in Kobuk Valley.

Great video! Most other people seem to do a short flight tour where they’re only on the ground for an hour or so. It’s incredible to see a video of people who spent a lot of time really getting to enjoy these two parks!

Thanks! An hour would be a tease; both parks are immense and extremely beautiful. I spent a few days in Wrangell-St. Elias last year, and I felt like I saw just a sliver, but a flightseeing trip helped put the landscape in context. There's no right or wrong way to do the experience!

What a great video. Its hard to find any content on this National Park because it is so remote. Its on my bucket list to backpack that sacred landscape one day. Thanks for the great video!

Agreed. That inspired us to share our experience, especially our raw, real-time reactions to the landscape and wildlife. Joe Wilkin's book was one of the few pieces of media I could find in the lead-up to our trip.
