These commercials take back to 1990 in a profound way it takes back to a time when everyone that I cared about in my family were still alive (grandparents mainly)holidays were hectic and frantic but I would do anything to just have one day to be back then just to say "I love you" great upload

I would love to go back then too. I was just a little kid, but I remember it. Things just were better and things made sense then. No social media, and good music was still being played on the radio

Forgot that Dan Schneider (🤮) was in Head of the Class. I really miss the 90s. It’s so hard to explain to someone born after Y2K how and why the 90s were something special. It’s a cliche thing to say they were “simpler times”, but they honestly were .. just like how most can easily sit and say the 80s and 70s were simpler times. I think they all fall in the same category of nostalgia for that - I look at it as the pre-Internet eras and post-Internet eras. The former being wildly superior in terms of having a much healthier society in more ways than one in comparison to what we have now in the modern era. I like seeing these old commercials, though. Brings me back and nostalgia hits me hard, even if it’s just for a brief moment. Thanks for continuously uploading.

every decade really starts about 2 - 4 years after the official start. The 60s started in 1963/4. The 70s around 1974. The 80s around 83/4. The 90s around 1992ish. The 2000s started a little sooner in 2001 with 9/11

So many ads in the 80s & 90s were geared towards kids. The Boomers fell for it and we kids reaped the rewards. Toys galore (even in cereal boxes). We had playgrounds everywhere, skating rinks, theme parks (and they were affordable, and if they weren't, our parents just dragged us to a time share tour, lol), toy stores the size of Walmart, kid's arcades, Chuck E Cheese, junk food, etc. Hell, we even had freaking dollar bills coming out of cans of Coke. It may not have been the most nutritional generation, but we sure had fun!

This must've been very early in 1990, as there's still some of that 80s vibe in most of these commercials (especially the local ones). The attitude of the 90s hasn't taken over just yet.

RetroCircq is definitely from my hometown Miami with these set of local TV 33 commercials. Thanks for sharing them as always Dave. They remind me of when I was really young. Not even a teen. Especially with the TMNT and the Kool-aid man. TV 33 showed a lot horror movies during the weekends. And particularly on halloweens obviously.

Is it weird that I didn't know the Kool-Aid Man was in commercials until I was, like, in high school? I was a kid in the 90s and early 2000s, btw. There's, maybe, two Kool-Aid ads I can ever remember seeing. I've said it before, but TMNT was one of those things where you had to be there to understand how huge it was. Didn't know the Florida Lotto had been using the logo with the flamingo that long. I probably would've been in Germany in 1990; I was born in Florida, but didn't end up back there until '98.

That Peter Pan Peanut Butter commercial…..is that the actor from Perfect Strangers? And OMG, I think the last little girl about to eat her peanut butter sandwich is a very young Ashley Johnson. Voice from Some post Apocalyptic game which I can’t remember. Until Dawn maybe? In any case, I remember het as Van Damme’s niece from Lionheart.

another great set, Dave! but i'm flummoxed! i thought waterbeds were a thing from the 1970s/80s? in Sacramento we had a leading waterbed firm, LaBrie's Waterbeds, host & sponsor, owner Tom LaBrie, of a late-night movie program on our local UHF station, Night Comfort Theater. great for us nite owls! but waterbeds in the early '90s? are they still a thing? can you get a waterbed today?
@kz1000ps
@kz1000ps 2 года назад
Well this is from October 1990 so for all intents and purposes you could still kinda consider this the '80s. But to your point yeah they were well on their way out, and I have to think the recession of 1991-92 probably did away with what few stores were still around, because by the mid-'90s they were completely gone!

I like how you can often tell the age of a commercial by if it's too hammy with its testimonial style, like having a mother swear by the quality of a certain brand of paper plates or towels while in the kitchen and holding a baby, even without the video quality and clothing sense. Another small style is appealing to emotion and sentimentality, no matter how absurd the product, like chocolate covered raisins. I feel like those two styles were a near constant with television ads and, all though I don't watch much TV nowadays, I could tell that you saw them less as 00s and 10s rolled around. They were annoying back then as a kid but now I'm sitting here on my desk watching these so I can emulate couch surfing. Thanks Dave's Archives.
